Anchorage to Seward Port Transportation

The last time we did an Alaskan cruise we did a pre-cruise land tour. What is the best way to get from Anchorage to the cruise port in Seward?

Train is great. Last time 4 of us hired driver and got a 6 hour tour.

We are booked on Radiance this June.  We have the train booked from Anchorage to Seward.  Departs 6:45am and arrives at 11:15am in Seward.  Alaska Railroad.

Train or rental car

If you're flying in same day, the train is probably your best option.  Hopefully you're flying in a day or more earlier.  In that case, rental car is best.  There's so much to see enroute....Girdwood, Portage Glacier, Whittier, Hope, etc.  The scenery is breathtaking.  

 

Rental car companies in Seward are limited for drop-off.  I believe Avis is there.

There are also motor coach firms which offer transport.  Some include a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.  Google both the Seward and Anchorage visitor's bureaus to find the names of the current vendors.

Alaska Railroad train- It goes through scenery part of the way that can’t be viewed by car, is relaxing, has more spacious seating than an bus, and has gorgeous views.

The "best" way depends on your criteria for determination. Quickest? Cheapest? Most scenic? Most comfortable? Safest?
