Lost Luggage by the Airlines

I have a question.

MSC has a luggage recovery service.

"In the unfortunate event of a luggage handling error by the airline, we offer a luggage recovery service. Working with the Lost & Found offices of each airport, we will make every effort to track your luggage and, when possible, have it sent directly to the ship at one of the subsequent ports of call. In order to help you trace any lost luggage in the most efficient way, we ask you to present a copy of the P.I.R. (Property Irregularity Report) prepared at the Lost Property Office of the airport where you reported the luggage missing."

Does Celebrity offer this service? (first time Celebrity cruiser, 23 cruise total)

Why I ask....the last cruise I took with NCL in December 22,  my luggage along with about 30 others (forgot to load a whole cart)  never left the airport in Toronto (Air Canada).  We did file a lost luggage with the airlines at the destination (Orlando) and fortunately they did sent on the next flight and couriered to our pre-hotel (Port Canaveral) and arrived a 10pm at night.  Now because this is becoming so common at the airport in Toronto, I am worried. Yes I did have insurance but it is a pain to replace everything. I never use to worry but hear from a lot of friends in the past 6 month that there luggage is getting lost. I am worried about my upcoming trip in March and love to know if this is a service option Celebrity provides.

Side note....One of the people had used air tags for the first time, she thought they were not working BUT yes they were working the luggage never did leave Toronto.

I have met a few people on Celebrity ships whose luggage didn’t make it and in those cases  Celebrity was working with the airlines to track and get their luggage to them. They were also provided some essentials and free laundry for the few clothes they had.

I don’t think it is a named service, just good customer to try and help.

We bought those the Air Tags for Apple.   We have them in all of our luggage and carryons. They work great.

Our daughter has one that is for pets.   She has it on their dog, and the dog also has implanted chip.   The chip may help is the dog is caught and taken to a place that can access it.  The tag will locate the dog.

The dog is a rescue.   It is a mix and didn’t cost much but it is part of their family and would be a great loss if it became missing.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Another vote for AitTags if you are an Apple user.

Used them on recent flights to Australia, great for your confidence when you can see where they are.

Also a side benefit, you will know when they are about to come out on the baggage belt at the airport, so no need to just stand there staring at every bag 🙂

This.

On our September Beyond cruise out if Civittavechia we were able to track our luggage every step of the trip. We knew it was on the plane before we departed the gate.

Yes the Lost Luggage office at the airport coordinates directly with the Celebrity Guest services on the ship (Reflection). They coordinate getting the luggage back to you in whatever port it can be brought to. We flew Vancouver, Montreal, Rome. Our luggage flew Vancouver, Montreal, Athens, Santorini then a tender to the ship. The airbags confirmed all this. They were not necessary in this event, but may be in the next.

For those of us that prefer Android same thing as Airtags called "Tile". I bought mine from Amazon - 2 for about $50.

I just picked up Tiles for our next Cruise coming up in a few weeks, As an Android user, I'm was happy to see just how many people are part of the Tile community, to help track lost luggage.

Are you using Flights By Celebrity?

Yes I am using flights by celebrity. It was a very good price and a good schedule. I did call the cruise desk for the flights and they did say if there's an issue with the flight but they didn't mention the luggage

Thanks everyone for the great information and feedback. It makes me want to have a apple platform just for this and air tags. But I will investigate the tiles for Android that is something I took out of this thread and I do appreciate other sharing their experience of their lost luggage and how celebrity had great customer service thank you

Quick story...Boston to Rome...no luggage...We were boarding the ship the next day. We went to our hotel with our carry-on clothes. At 1 a.m. phone dinged saying our luggage was at FCO. On the way to the ship we stopped at the airport to be told our luggage was not there. We begged to differ and  were escorted into their back room where we retrieved our bags. The look on their faces when we walked by them was priceless. MORAL---get AIR TAGS

I have four airtags I used for our Alaska cruise last August.  They are still in the bags.  Should I replace the batteries before our upcoming cruise?  Remove the batteries when not used for a long period of time?

The batteries should last a year.

We flew into Miami in December for an Apex cruise. We don't know where our luggage went.

Once onboard, we reported the "lost" bag to both Guests Services and the Retreat Concierge. Both told us they would follow up with Delta to track the progress of the bag.

We didn't ever hear back from anyone onboard. Thankfully, we had good internet and could keep contacting Delta ourselves.

As other have suggested, get a good tracking device. We still have not gotten our bag - if we'd had a tracker in it, at least we would have a clue where it is!

We use ours on various key rings when not traveling, so have never been tempted to remove the batteries, and they will give you a warning if the battery is running low.

... but if you are getting close to a year since you first used them it is worth changing the batteries for the small cost involved...
