We will be at pier 88 wherever that is….  I’ll let you know tomorrow how it goes.  Evidently we will be passing the Statue of Liberty at 5 am.  It’s so foggy now, I doubt we’ll see it if it’s like this.

We had a nice dinner on our own in Club Orange.  The others went to Tamarind tonight. I was a little bit envious, but I will survive!

 

I had the crab starter, then the red snapper and brazo de mercedes for dessert.

Does anybody have any idea why we just made a sharp westerly turn towards Atlantic City and there are helicopters flying over/near the ship? Medical situation again?

I just noticed that on cruisemapper.com and marinetraffic.com.  Turned west near Atlantic City.  I think you're right about a medical evac.

One of the three sites I use to track the ships show you moving back into a northerly position.  The other two are obviously slower to react.  Did you see or hear the helicopter overhead?

Didn't see any, but heard them clearly a number of times. Not continuously above the ship though, more of a fly by. It's very foggy, no visual at the moment, fog horn has been in use most of the afternoon and evening. That thing is loud, by the way. Especially if you're in the Crows nest and the sliding door opens 🙃

We're back on our normal direction. I guess we'll be hearing the fog horn every few minutes this night.

I slept through the whole thing.  Maybe we’ll hear more at breakfast.  At 4:30 , it’s still dark, I can’t see any lights or anything, but the foghorn isn’t sounding.

 

I think we were supposed to be passing the Statue of Liberty at 5.  I think it will still be dark, but if there was a delay during the night, then it may be later.

Yay!  I'm so glad you are seeing it.  Even in the misty and dark morning it looks impressive.  My grandparents came over by ship from Norway and Sweden in the late 1800s and they saw it too.  I will see it someday, I hope!

Aloha. Thank you for your posts and glad you had a great time.  Born and raised in Manhattan and our apartment in Battery Park City has a view of Lady Liberty and the World Trade Center. Fun to watch the ships come and go! Safe home.

And yes, we had a medical evacuation during the night.  That must have been scary in the fog.

 

off our verandah I saw a billboard of HAL “Travel is our tradition.”  must be the new logo.

After a nice breakfast of smoked salmon in CO, we headed for the Dutch Cafe, where someone from the shore is doing a tasting of all the liquors there - at 9 o’clock in the morning!  There will be inspections today evidently and the ship is bustling-all filters are being changed in the stateroom hallways.

We took this same picture when we arrived on the Rotterdam in October. Great pictures of your arrival, too, @Vict0riann. Brings back wonderful memories of our arrival on the west-bound 150th.

After seeing Martha  and Tony off to visit their daughter, we decided to go for the short walk over to Pier 83 and take a 1-hour boat ride on the Circle Line, as recommended by our historian on board, Bill Miller.  It was just as far as the Statue of Liberty and back again, so not too onerous!  It is a rather overcast day and not warm, but they have to have had some good weather, as even the tulips are blooming.

Ann, DD used to live in Manhattan and when I went back there to help her move back to California, the last thing we did, to say farewell to NYC, was the Circle boat tour.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.  We learned a lot and it was just a very special day.

I forgot to mention that yesterday, after Happy Hour, we wandered by the BBKings room and stayed for some music by the Dance Band.  There were about 20 people there and 2 couples dancing.  Bring back Lincoln Center Stage!!

How lucky you are to have Bill Miller on board! I used to love borrowing one of his ocean liner books from the on board libraries.
