We are sailing to Alaska on Royal in August and are currently booked in a mini-suite on deck 14 on the starboard side. Which side do you prefer for the best views from your balcony? We are sailing round trip from Seattle. Thanks

On a roundtrip from Seattle, it doesn’t matter as much. If you’ll be going and returning the same way, what you see on one side of the ship going, you’ll see from the other side of the ship returning.

Also, when the ship spends the day viewing glaciers, usually they’ll rotate the ship in position so that people on both sides of the ship can enjoy the views.

With all of that said, there are some views that will be luck of the draw. There’s not enough pre-planning to know when and where a bank of whales will decide to make an appearance.

We have been on many Princess Alaska cruises.  If your cruise includes Glacier Bay, I recomend the starboard (right) side.  They sail into the Bay in the early hours.  I always wake up early and watch the sunrise from our balcony.  It is magical and sooooo peaceful.

If this was the itinerary, we probably would have chosen the port side based on the route as most of the scenic viewing of the mountains, especially when leaving the ports and cruising back to Seattle, is on the port side. But either side should be fine.
