Radiance dry dock

 Share

Recommended Posts

WiFi worked well in our cabin, deck 7 forward.  Not on balcony.  DH was able to work and we made WiFi calls.  This was a week ago.

The carpet in our hall needed to be cleaned and the ship looks a bit tired but really over all not bad.  I didn’t see any holes in the furniture or that sort of thing.

They were supposed to replace the wifi platform on board with a new Cisco solution but that level of tech detail is not appreciated or noticed by many so I haven't been able to confirm.

I'll be on her in a few weeks so if there is something you are looking for I can look at that time.

Please confirm Samba Grill is still an option

Thank you 😊

Dining venues should be listed in the app.

Really - I never knew that 😳

I prefer when someone sailing on a ship asks if anyone has any questions and they provide Information from experience

It’s called interacting with people 😎

Her last listed drydock was in July of 2021, but that was probably just maintenance and safety work to get her back up and operating after the shutdown ended.

I believe a dry dock is scheduled for sometime in 2024.

That experience is anecdotal and a snap shot in time. Someone could tell you something was true on their sailing which could end up being false on the next sailing.

Just got off Radiance on the 23rd. Samba is open and was outstanding. In fact I gave Chops, Giovanni’s, and Samba a 10. Didn’t do Izumi.
I can’t think of anything good to say about MDR or WJ though.

Unless they are ripping out Samba during current sailings

or as posted by someone they were told by the Captain it was being removed

Which is obviously not true (but was posted non the less

Il take the “it was there on the 23rd” as being much more accurate from someone who ate there recently as being more reliable and of good timing

I prefer experience from fellow cruisers who are currently cruising😎

Thats why they say “ ask me any questions”

When did you cruise last, asking for a few friends 😉

A few things I noticed about Radiance having just got off the ship.
The hallway carpeting is pretty bad and musty.  I did notice at the front of the ship, deck 11 or 12 outside, were many rolls of plastic covered carpet, I assume to replace the hallways.

The furniture in the Schooner bar is pretty beat up, probably from being dragged around and banged into tables.

The casino was not in very good shape and could use some more current slot machines.

IMO, Radiance class ships are the most beautiful ships Royal has ever made and I hope they stay in the fleet for a long time to come.

As a side note, I’ve never seen West Indies spelled like on the elevator doors. (Pic below).  😉

I googled it and the internet doesn’t know why it is spelt like that

I’m shocked 😳
I thought the Internet would know who wrote it and when

Maybe someone can see if they spell it like that in the APP

Thanks for the feedback on ship, daughter is on her in 2 weeks and we get on in Feb 2024.

Hopefully Samba is still there for both sailings

Side note: Grandeur was looking a little worse for the wear also at 26 years needs some Botox 😜

We ate in all 4 of the speciality restaurants on Radiance this month.  All of them were great.  We ate once in Giovanni’s and Samba, twice in Izumi and Chops.  We heard Samba is going away.  We will miss it. The meats are all great, the pineapple divine.  We did this with our second BOGO and the place was pretty full so others like it too.  DH loves Izumi.  We did a BOGO the first night and literally had the place to ourselves.  We came back day 16 for lunch and they let us split the $39.99 meal. It was plenty for lunch.

Couple of observations vis-a-vie the Radiance.

1 Capt Merrick joined just before the canal crossing. Said he works for 4 months then is off 4 months.

2 Maintenance things I saw were coffee machine in diamond lounge hasn't worked for a month, water has gotten into several windows in the Solarium, carpet is worn but replacement appeared to be stored on  board, roof leaks into the Jammer, one of the soft serve machine does not work but the other does, our cabin only had hot to warm water but she is in better shape than the Jewel was when we were on her last year. With exception of the ceiling leak in the Jammer all of these other things are minor.

3 Shows were good, we were on for 16 days and missed a few stops because of hurricane so they had to scramble to get some shows in so the crew filled in and were fantastic.

Hope that answers some questions.
