bethco Posted June 1, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2023 (edited) It's edible/decent but not fabulous IMO. I recently heard someone talking about how fabulous they were. Her standards for good shrimp were obviously different from mine. Edited June 1, 2023 by bethco

We had both on Allure and Oasis, and both were just meh on the Allure, and great on the Oasis.
smokeybandit Posted June 1, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2023 I've enjoyed them, but it's nothing different than you'd get at Red Lobster
joeyancho Posted June 1, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 1, 2023 The garlic shrimp is very good. It is one of the standouts now that the menus have changed. (For the worst IMHO)
bethco Posted June 1, 2023 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2023 You will certainly get better (and more expensive) seafood in Juneau. I would not miss out on something I wanted to do in port in order to eat dinner on the ship.
latebuyer Posted June 1, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted June 1, 2023 Thanks everyone. I didn’t think what was available in juneau was that special and i will go to dinner in port in ketchikan. Still i’ll play it by ear. I think since we are at the far dock you have to leave early to get the shuttle.

firefly333 Posted June 1, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 1, 2023 I like the garlic shrimp. I'm allergic to coconut so just looking at it to me it looks terrible, but I like the garlic shrimp.
Tatka Posted June 1, 2023 #12 Share Posted June 1, 2023 We had to skip that night on Monday as we were in Bermuda and wanted to go somewhere. My husband knowing how I loved coconut shrimp just went to MDR and ordered it for me while I was sitting in Boleros.

poocher Posted June 1, 2023 #15 Share Posted June 1, 2023 We had both on Harmony last month and enjoyed them very much. Well prepared and seasoned and correct temperature.
vjmatty Posted June 1, 2023 #16 Share Posted June 1, 2023 How long is your cruise? The menu will repeat if more than 7 days so you may get another chance.
Weluv2cruise2gether Posted June 2, 2023 #17 Share Posted June 2, 2023 The garlic shrimp is one of my favorite dishes in the MDR😋

Rare nimbex1970 Posted June 2, 2023 #19 Share Posted June 2, 2023 overcooked. Not a fan at all, but others may find it edible.. it's all subjective.
retired dude Posted June 2, 2023 #20 Share Posted June 2, 2023 far superior to the menu on mexican night.
bwaylvsong Posted June 2, 2023 #21 Share Posted June 2, 2023 Just had both on the Oasis. Caribbean menu was ok but by comparison the worst dinner of the cruise (I actually really liked Mexican night which looked like it would be a bad menu). Coconut shrimp themselves were tasty but came with a barely edible slaw; garlic shrimp were decently sized and cooked but had an Alfredo-like sauce on them that was not mentioned on the menu (nor in the picture above) and didn’t meld well with the other flavors. Never got an Alfredo type sauce on the garlic prawns. Thinking some sous chef made a mistake.

I don’t know for sure what type of sauce it was, but it was creamy/white and definitely not garlic/herb butter.

Me neither and the pic I posted is typical of any time I've had them. I think you might be right.
