Rare www3traveler Posted July 12, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2023 That is interesting The Spirit was orginally named the Star Leo (Star Cruises)
davencl Posted July 12, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2023 (edited) That explains why there's no sailings listed on NCL's website for May-Sept. 2024. Whereas lions travel has sailings listed in June, July, Aug etc. NCL sailings resume in October. Edited July 12, 2023 by davencl
Rare Liljo22 Posted July 12, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2023 If the ship is going to be in the Asia market, it would make sense to change the name. The Asian culture, especially Chinese, is very particular about ghosts and spirits. Having a ship named Spirit could keep potential passengers away. Fun Fact: Because of this Shanghai Disneyland does not have a Haunted Mansion and in Hong Kong there is a Mystic Manor instead of a HM.
Rare shof515 Posted July 12, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2023 would this ship last in the Asia market? Norwegian tried the Asia market with a different ship and that did not last

I have no actual knowledge so this is my speculation.
bluesea777 Posted July 12, 2023 Author #10 Share Posted July 12, 2023 I'm happy to learn that Spirit will be back in NCL's hands starting Oct 2024!
Rare Rob_H Posted July 12, 2023 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2023 The charter to Lion was announced a few weeks ago: https://cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/2023/06/norwegian-spirit-to-sail-from-taiwan-in-2024/ NCL can presumably get more money chartering than sending the Spirit back to the very crowded Alaska market again, or risking an Asia season themselves.

ma_t_gus Posted July 13, 2023 #16 Share Posted July 13, 2023 I thought it was the Sun that got charted. Mine was cancelled for Nov'24. I'll be waiting for the Spirit Oct 23-Nov 4 / 2024 to be out of 'sold out' mode. I'll check every week. hehehehhe

Rare mking8288 Posted July 13, 2023 #19 Share Posted July 13, 2023 Interested and thanks @bluesea777 for sharing. Had a chance to review the details published by Lion Travel. Summary & highlights: The Spirit isn't going to get renamed or going into drydock to get this new name "Endeavour" painted, it's a partnership effort with NCL's Charter ... for the given duration nex year only. There is a current promotion booking thru Lion Travel, 50% off based on double occupancies only - 1st pax pay full and 2nd. pax is "free" - no discount for solo cruiser or children (regardless of age) that require their own bedding, unless they share a cabin with triple or quad occupancy bedding, etc. (then discounted with 2 adult fares) Port taxes & fees included in the prices quoted (TWD) except for DSC of $20 USD or $25 USD p/p per day for Suites. There is an extra charge for ship itinerary calling upon Japan, to be added. Additional upcharge for onboard specialty dining options. Also included is basic travel/trip insurance covered by Lion Travel but additional insurance is recommended. These are mostly short duration cruises, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 nights out of Keelung, TW ROC (on the northeastern tip of the island, where most cruises sailing to/from) - that's about 1 hour to 90 minutes from Taipei City (capital) - Int'l Airport is 90 minutes to 2 hour via highway, west of the port & city centre. There will be 3 sailings of 5 days duration out of Kaohsiung City, near the southeastern tip of Taiwan ROC. In short, I checked with our TA friend locally and it appeared that this is marketed primary at the local & regional market, and perhaps, for oversea nationals and expatriates ... not the typical CC from the Americas and elsewhere. Going to be interesting, the refreshed 25 years old Spirit to compete regionally against the first mainland China home-built & larger Adora Magic City, with 5G onboard WiFi services and other state-of-the-art innovations (will be somewhat like competing against the Viva/Prima class in tonnage) https://www.cruisemapper.com/ships/Adora-Magic-City-2181#news

It involves $$$$$, re-registration, and all the legal crap, etc. NCL would not going thru that if the Spirit is being chartered by Lion Travel for only 4 months. As it turns out the name Endeavour was possibly created by Lion Travel as promotion.
