scouseronline Posted August 20, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2023 We always tipped extra to bar tenders, cabin crew etc in USD when cruising the Med ( over and above our pre paid grats) but now I’m wondering if the staff would prefer Euros over USD or do they even care what currency it is ? Nachosdelux Posted August 20, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2023 Doesn’t matter. Either currency is fine.
jelayne Posted August 20, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2023 USD is always the currency of the ship. Crew will take either.m
Baggy178 Posted August 20, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2023 A 20% tip is already included in the price of your drink. Bar staff are not part of the ship's normal gratuity system.

Any currency - if you have Euros (or anything else) use those first rather than change them back then swop back to $ if needed. The ship will handle any currency for the crew at preferential rates. That was not the tenor of the question, the question is about currency to tip in when on an European sailing... bon voyage
lostchild Posted August 21, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 21, 2023 The only thing about US currency is that they have to be in perfect shape. Paper Euro is usually in perfect shape and no marking on them as they are not really paper. European don't usually mark on their money. US paper is a different animal. People use those marking pen to test if it is real or not. They get torn up or missing a corner. I was told by foreigner that it is hard to exchange US money when they are not in perfect shape.
