Blantons on the Edge

For those bourbon drinkers among us...I just got off the Edge yesterday and found Blanton's at the Casino bar.  Didn't find it anywhere else on board, including the Club and Sunset Bar.  It's $18/pour and they measured it a bit miserly...but it's the first time in 18months where I've found Blanton's on X.  Despite my best efforts, there remain several bottles left.  They also had Eagle Rare, but at $25, I passed on it. Just a public service announcement for those who care.

My husband is a bourbon drinker...I passed on the info to him!

  • 3 weeks later...

I asked about Blantons in the Eden lounge the next to last night of our cruise and was told they'd run out but would restock the next night so come back and ask again.

I went back the next night and asked the same waiter who said they hadn't yet restocked it so I ordered an Eagle Rare 10 year which was something like 29Euro and the 9.6Euro amount above my premium package allowance for that drink was my only room charge for the trip.

As we were sitting in Eden enjoying our drinks the waiter came over to me and said we've just restocked the Blantons.  I passed.

I agree with your decision to have the Eagle Rare.

I disagree with your decision to pass up on the Blanton's.

Of the two, I have to admit that I prefer Blanton's.

Yeah at the same price I'd have to agree.  But as @beernutz said, 29 for the Eagle vs 18 for the Blantons is a no brainer in favor of Blantons for me.  Now if they had the Blantons Gold...that would be a game changer for me. That, along with the Weller 12yr are my special occasion pours-of-choice.

If I am reading this right the price for Blanton would be $18 without a liquor package or $1 extra if you had the premium package,  plus the gratuity?

Thanks

I had Blanton's on the Silhouette last April on our Transatlantic cruise.  It was a $3 upcharge over the premium package.  Definitely the best deal over the other whiskeys that were priced over the drink package, including the Eagle Rare.

This summer on a European cruise they had Blanton's, Eagle Rare, and EH Taylor small batch in Eden on Beyond.  The week before on Apex they had nothing at all worthwhile.  I couldn't find it anywhere else on the ship.

I believe it was:

$11 EHT

$15 ER

$22? Blanton's (I want to say it was double ETH)

I was all over that ETH at $11 a pour (don't do the drink package now that they make both people get it).  Since it was only at Eden I would walk there to get my drink then back to wherever we were hanging out or to dinner.

I have found that not doing the drink package and leaving a nice CASH tip is a way to very heavy pours on nights 2+.  Just go to the same bartender every time and leave a cash tip.

Weller 12 has the odd distinction to me of being the best value at MSPR ($40) and most overrated on the secondary ($200+).  Crazy how much it costs if you can't get it at store prices, but at store prices it is insanely underpriced for the quality.

Yeah something like that if you have the premium drinks package.  I don't recall if my incremental charge was $2 or $3 (plus gratuity/tax) per pour...but it was definitely worth it!

Totally agree.  Unfortunately in my part of the world (near NYC) it's nigh impossible to find it at the release price, and has been for almost a decade.  I was lucky (maybe even smart) enough to stock up about 6-7yrs ago when the prices really began to skyrocket.  I found a store in NY which had a bunch of jugs (1.75L) of the Weller 12yr at a much better price than the 750s.  Since it's the same bourbony goodness inside, I bought every one they had at a price equivalent of roughly $65/750ml.  I'm still working my way through that treasure trove...I'm down to my last 2 big bottles.

Craft social has all the premium bourbons including Blantons, Eagle Rare, E H Taylor and Old Forrester 1920.

And a great head bartender. Forget his name,

but he is middle eastern.

And, the Ensemble lounge also had a great head bartender that keeps fever tree tonic in the back. Tip him well and he takes care of you. Also brought out Luxardo cherries for old fashions.

Great ship for bars.

Definitely use to be easy to find, In NH now it is thru a lottery system which I happily won this year and got a bottle.  But if I see it ever I pick it up

Perfect, I will be there or World Class Bar mostly.  Not a fan of martini bar, I know many are but if i get a martini its the classic one and even then it needs to be made correctly.

Costco has great prices on liquor.   Always stock up at the stores in FL as their prices are way cheaper than in MI.  In MI Costco  prices are the same as any other liquor store that sells at the state minimum price.

I always check on the state’s liquor price site.

Drink up. 🍸🥂🧉🍹🥃🍾🍷

No kidding.  It was only a decade ago when you could buy all the Blanton's you wanted at $50/bt, Weller 12yr for $35 and Pappy 20yr for $100.  So much hype now for the same stuff...and so much dumb money chasing limited supply without a real appreciation for what they're buying...they just know they've got to buy Brand ABC bourbon because that's what hot.

We were in KY and you couldn’t find any Buffalo Trade because it is the same bill mash as Blanton.   Here in MI you can  buy all you want.

Idiots don’t realize that many brands have the same bill mash.  Old Grand Dad is the same as Basil Hayden.   The bottles are also similar.  The difference is the aging, char of the barrels,  rickhouse, and etc.

People are gullible and are blinded by marketing, or hype.

Drink up 🍷🍾🍸🥂🧉🍹🥃
