It needs to be the Drinks on Us Everywhere from the casino and not just the Drinks on Us in the casino only to allow one person to purchase CHEERS onboard.  If it was the DOU in the casino, both would need to purchase

Kinda depends if you care about where you get your drink. If you don't care about only having to hang out at the casino, then you wouldn't have to buy cheers regardless.

Ships like the Mardi Gras have bars well worth the price of CHEERS

Thanks!  The cruise is not until next spring, so no final payment.  The more I think about what momof3cruisers does, the more if makes sense to go that route.  We just like the convenience of not having to sign slips.

You still have to sign slips even if you have Cheers.

I don't believe there is a way to avoid signing the slip, you get one in any case.

Disappointing to hear that Carnival has slip signing even with a Beverage Package.  We loved not having to sign on Celebrity.  On our last HAL cruise, we had the package and were given a slip to sign with each drink at Ocean Club.  So annoying!

I sigh  my receipts with a straight line. Literally takes a second.  I do it without even thinking about it. No biggie.

Carnival is quite firm on this. Even with someone being pregnant or having a medical reason, their stance has been that there are other things included like bottled water, milk shakes etc.

On our last cruise, we put cash n our account in the amount that Cheers would have cost us to both get it. I don’t drink very much, I have a lot of water, a few specialty coffees and I like Coke, not Pepsi. My husband wanted the freedom of ordering whatever like you talked about. I brought on a 12 pack of Coke and we ordered water sent to the room. He was worried, whereas I knew we wouldn’t even come close to the total. I was right and we actually ended up having more than half of the money left over so it wouldn’t have even been worth it for him on that trip.

Exactly, Carnival would never sell the package if most people broke even on the deal. I know many people do, but the reality is most don't.

I imagine many (most?) people do break even on the deal, if by that you mean the amount they pay for the drink package is equal to or less than what they would have paid for the equivalent drinks individually.  However, chances are that they get MORE drinks under a package than they would purchase if they went a la carte, so Carnival still profits.  The markup on each drink (how much they charge vs how much it costs them in manpower and ingredients) is significant.  Ergo, more drinks sold equals more profits made.  That is true whether they are sold individually or bundled in a package.

Theoretically, the cruise line could lose money on individuals who buy Cheers, but in order for that to happen, that customer would need to approach the daily limit every day for cocktails AND go nuts with the unlimited non-alcoholic options.

Saint Greg touched on it...but just to be sure you noticed the point...

Might be a captain obvious point but - on days you are in ports, you won't be using the Cheers pkg drinks while off the ship....even if you are at one of the private islands. so factor that in, when determining if it's worth it.

It is how they track inventory.

If there is a discrepancy later - it can be proven with a signature. No signature - no proof!

I remember one time my wife did not want the cheers package, but I did, and we worked it out and found out that it would be actually cheaper to just get a second room that my wife could be "booked in". Cost of cheers was like $600 for one person, but a second room was only three

Disembarked the Radiance today.  We were at the Red Frog Pub yesterday and a guy walked up and ordered a drink.  The bartender scanned the card he was handed and said to the guy "where is Mike?"  The guy with the card responded, "he is over there" and grabbed the receipt, walker over to Mike, had him sign the receipt, walked back to the bar and laid it down.  The bartender told him that next time "Mike" would have to be there. I watched this guy take the Jack & coke and proceed to drink it. I was happy to see that the bartender was trying to not let this guy cheat.  He let him get away with one drink.  I did not see the guy try that stunt again.  At least while I was sitting there.  This bartender was working his a** off.  My husband was so impressed with him that we went back to our cabin, grabbed $20 bucks, went back to tip him.  He was so grateful.

Yes, you can purchase Cheers at any bar.  Watched a couple walk up to the Red Frog Rum Bar on the second day and order the Cheers package for the rest of the trip UNTIL the bartender told them the amount.  They cancelled that transaction.

Not sure why I am telling everyone this tidbit of information.  Maybe someone out there will find it useful.

Interesting!  Did you not have to pay extra for single occupancy of the two staterooms?
