During your 14 days, did you observe any intrusions by interlopers into areas of the Yacht Club?

I feel like this issue has become quite sensationalized. While I have no doubt that it has happened in the past, we’ve never encountered it in any of our YC experiences. I just don’t think it’s as common as everyone fears.

I was just curious what their recent experience was.  We tend to cruise with MSC every 2 or 3 years and I think I may have seen it happen once on the YC pool deck.  People have gotten pretty shameless these days.  🙃

I'd agree.  We've done at least four since startup and no issues.

Yacht club was probably my worst experience in a restaurant on any ship.

MSC Virtuosa  May  this year from Southampton.

Half an hour between courses was normal.

lack of staff was the excuse.

So lack of tips was my excuse.

Ya, that makes sense, Don't tip the people that actually decide to work. Worst excuse ever.

Was that every meal?  Was the quality of the food bad?  Why punish the wait staff who work hard to try and serve everyone and are working for peanuts to support their families while being away up to 10 months out of a year?  How do you know they were the problem and not the kitchen staff?  That is the ultimate of being cheap.

No we didn’t observe any interlopers or at least weren’t aware of any. This was our first MSC cruise and we were impressed with the ship and the service.

I found that out to be true as well on the Seaships out of Florida. Until I started tipping more. The more I tipped the better the service. I would love to elaborate to how good it got, but too many would demand the same treatment and I would "kill the goose that laid the golden egg."

P.S. I'm surprised your meals didn't take longer. They must not have needed to 'turn' the table too quickly on your cruise.

Never saw scofflaws on the Divina but on Meriviglia (out of PC) witnessed twice older teens bringing friends (newly met?) into the Top Sail Lounge but quickly stopped passing by the Concierge.

One time on the top Pool Deck we saw a group of 8 non YCers screaming, swearing at us to let them in (glass door) and it was discriminatory (started to get racial) to keep them out of this area.  It seemed like it would get out of hand so we vacated the area.

99% of the time the cruises are bliss in the YC and we dont notice a thing out of the ordinary.

I also believe the "interlopers" statement has been greatly exaggerated by some people, especially one on this board.  I couldn't imagine caring about other people while enjoying my time in YC and believe that there are very few "interlopers" to worry about.

Ah, come on…..if you are going to call someone out, just do it. Be specific and not so coy with your call outs.

To be fair, some of what people described in this thread have been pretty egregious... like the the group breaking through a locked entry to get a better view of the lighthouse show on the Divina, all the extra non-YC people in line at the Seafood Extravaganza on the Seascape and the group of 8 non-YCers screaming, swearing at YC guests through the glass door on the Meraviglia.

Fortunately, incidents this bad seem to be quite rare... and even though they don't quite measure up to the Visigoths sacking Rome (or do they, haha), I can see how YC guests would find them disturbing and upsetting.

Fingers crossed that we all continue to have mostly peaceful YC cruises going forward and that MSC finds a way to control any problems (big and small) the few times things go off the rails with interlopers.

We have not really witnessed it on several YC trips in the past 3 years on board.  We have witnessed it several times on Ocean Cay.  We have pointed it out to the butlers and they have addressed it.  Most people leave without much commotion.  We did have one group of younger adults that berated the person near them that turned them in and verbally abused her.  The butler did not do anything to stop them other than stand there while they left.  They should have called security if you ask me.  Their language and the things they said were disgraceful.

Shameless and disgusting... I think you're right about them needing to call security.  That behavior is just unacceptable... what a nerve?!

This brings to mind two Mark Twain quotes.

" It is not worthwhile to strain one's self to tell the truth to people who habitually discount everything you tell them, whether it is true or isn't." And " the more I get to know some people. the more I like dogs."

Coming up the outside stairs and defeating the lock on the gate, heck I watched a ship crew member do it to get access to paint something, to watch the light show when there ae no Yacht Club services (pool closed, bar closed, no towels etc) is one thing.

Coming in and using the services, free drinks/food etc. is another IMHO.

The latter can cause my price to go up for those services.

Now if those interlopers were smoking weed.... Oops that's another thread here...

I took video of the mass piggy-backing entry of interlopers coming into the YC from deck 18 coming up the stairs to deck 19 walking right past me out onto the One Pool Deck. If I knew how to blot out their faces I would post it.

P.S. They asked me for directions to the pool deck and I just pointed .

I think if guests are caught loaning out wristbands, the bands should be confiscated.  And no reissue if they claim they were ‘lost’.  Perhaps they should install facial recognition for entry into YC.  EM

I just saw an article today that Universal Orlando is going to be doing that in their new Epic Universe park to cut down on the people cheating their Express system. I would happily smile my way into Yacht Club every time if it would eliminate the interlopers.

I can say that back in late 2021/early 2022, when the ships were sailing at 10-20% capacity and we had maybe 20-30 people in Yacht Club, I was able to get permission from the Concierge to escort a few people through the YC facilities as a kind of "show and tell". They always said it was fine as long as they did not use any of the services, i.e., drinks, food, and we were out in 20-30 minutes. I think they were allowing it as they were desperate to get the ships, and particularly YC, sold out again.

Recent cruises the ships have been so full I have not even asked. But I also have seen two instances in the last nine months of people getting escorted out, once on Meraviglia and once on Seaside.

Snag It is a great program. I'd love to see that video. Did you show it to the YC Director?

No. But it is easy-peasy to stand on the landing of 19 or 20 and look down at the entrance doors on a sea day around lunch time. I was more concerned with asking the YC Director for something closer to my heart. To get the elevator over ride key cards for Yacht Clubbers fixed. I hope to board again this weekend.
