RCCL Crown lounge

Recommended Posts

On the website it says the crown lounge was created just for the loyal cruisers diamond and up. What perk is there besides a boring looking lounge- what happens during happy hour? Are drinks cheaper? Do the have hors doeurves? Live music? ANYTHING? Or is it just so you can say you get to go to this exclusive lounge to spend $. It’s a waste of space to me if there is no perk to go there.

They have a good free coffee machine which is open from very early in the morning.

There's continental style buffet breakfast, pastries, breads, ham, cheese, cerals etc.

Happy Hour, between 4-8, there's a hot and cold hor d'oeuvres buffet, but if there's a lot of Diamond and up members on board they sometimes exclude Diamond during these hours.

In the old ships where its in the Viking Crown lounge it's a nice quite place (except during HH) out of the sun to sit and watch the sea go by.

There's a concierge there to help with any problems or queries  like a mini guest services.

Most people use their Diamond and up free drink vouchers so no $$ spent .

The ships officers often come by to chat during HH  which can be interesting.

Finally as in any lounge you can meet interesting people

I enjoy the lounge as a place to meet fellow frequent cruisers, a place to gather with our adult children when they cruise with us, and a place to have a quiet pre-dinner snack.

As mentioned above, some of us highly value the perks. The coffee machine is one of my favorites after the vouchers and I enjoy the pre-dinner snacks when they're good.

Maybe not in any order

1) Coffee Machine

2) Quiet Place away from crowds

3) Crown Lounge Concierge

4) Meeting place

5) Meeting up with White shirts

6) Strip Show

7) Breakfast items

8) Pre-dinner Horsey Derves

9) Other stuff

You call the CL boring, yet you have no experiences or any idea what you are talking about! 😂🙄

Apparently they didn't read the comments. If they did, they should have the decency to acknowledge the perks. Maybe they are Celebrity Cruise Line people  who only have Happy Hour from 5-7pm. LOL

For something that is given as an extra perk for free for simply being loyal....why would anyone complain?  😉

Sorry, nothing is free! How many cruises did it take us to make Diamond or Diamond+?

OK...let me rephrase that.   So I want to take a few cruises with Royal.  I happen to like cruising.....and suddenly I make Diamond.  Let's face it...making Diamond at just 80 points...simply is not all that hard.  The Ds, D+, and Pinnacles are all the same in there...from 80 points to 1000s of points.  All the same munchies, coffee, Concierge services...etc...etc.

The list of items in there to enjoy was already posted.  Royal does not have to offer these extra things...and could save money by not doing so.  But there are many that appreciate the perks...that don't cost them anything extra to enjoy.

Would you rather they did not offer it?  Or better yet...if you don't want to go in there...don't go in.

FWIW, many of the current lounge places are areas that are pretty lightly used previously.  Not many people venture up to the old Viking Crown Lounge area, and fewer of them even bothered to look into the old game area- so turning that into a Lounge really made the space used instead of ignored.  The VCL was so lightly used that it's no longer a feature on the new ships.

Other areas are similar to that- the Crown Lounges on deck 4 on Oasis classes are also more unused areas than used.  I can't recall what was there prior to the move down there, but next to them are the old Jazz club- now casino space, and the comedy club across the way.  Other than show times, the comedy club is barely used.

As I see all of the current Suite and Crown Lounges, they were put in underutilized spaces, so having the lounges there make them considerably more used spaces than the previous wasted spaces.

I never complained about Crown Lounge. I am on Symphony in Feb 2024. Bye, bye!

Not arguing, but for an "average" cruiser (2x 7 night/year in a balcony or below), it would take 7 years until the first Diamond cruise.  And of course, you have to consistently sail RCI.

7 nights * 1 point * 2 cruises/yr = 14 pts/year

14 pts * 6 years = 84 pts.

1st cruise in year 7 would be Diamond.

Yes, a lot of people reached Diamond, D+, or P during double points + no solo supplement, but that no longer applies.

Personally, I would suggest that people who are getting to Diamond are not "average" cruisers.

That being said, it took us 9 years to become Diamond.  And just a decade later we are Pinnacle, and we had to fly to all of those cruises except the cruise we turned P on (since it was a retirement celebration cruise).

Congratulations on becoming a P!

We cruise other lines and will never become P.

Celebrity Elite+

HAL Copper

MSC Diamond

NCL Sapphire

Princess Elite

RCI Diamond+

No one cruise line has it all. They all offer something different.

Happy Cruising!

It took me 24 years to become Diamond (via Celebrity Elite).  And that was my 22nd cruise on various lines.  I don't think I reached 80+ points on RCI until 2014.  Was almost D+ (stuck at 163 points) before the shutdown.  Double points and no solo supplement has been a big help in moving up.

Regardless if how people get to Diamond, the spaces used for the Crown Lounge are generally spaces that were less used before the conversion.  And bear in mind, previous lounges have been turned into cabins- like many of the Deck 10 spaces on Voyager and Freedom class ships, as well as the Deck 6 space on the Allure and Oasis for the original Diamond Lounge.

Basically, the current lounge spaces make them more utilized than before, so they are less wasted than had they not been lounges.

Just floors me how someone can cast judgment about something they have never experienced. But, then again we're OK with less D,D+ and Ps using the CL. The people we have talked with in the DL/CL don't seem to think it's a boring place. No matter the time of day or night.  🍻 No matter the cruise line we cruise with I make sure I familiarize myself with their loyalty program and the perks/benefits associated with it.

I am only getting one point a night on the cruise I am currently on.  😉

Hey Bill...I just saw on RCI TV on board that it is national people named "Ty" day!!  😄

National Ty Day takes place every year on January 22. Tyler, Tyrese, and Tyrone are just a few examples of Ty being associated with the first two letters of a boy's name.

Well, I don't think you are the "average" cruiser.  😄

I wonder if there are any new RCI cruisers sailing the full WC solo in a JS or higher?  Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Diamond Plus, and Pinnacle all in one cruise.  👍

Not sure they were casting judgement.  It seemed like it was more like they had no clue and were asking a question.

6) anyone I know would count a strip show as a perk, it's probably why its so crowded and noisy during Happy Hour (or did you mean Stripe Show)

Crown Lounge is good if you want/need a quick breakfast without the crowds(bagel, parfait, muffin). Love the free lattes/cappuccinos. Pre-dinner Horsey Derves are fine some days, otherwise it's just basic, heated finger foods. I've gone in on bad weather days during the day to read because it's quite, but on the Anthem it's right next to the Music Hall. So sometimes it's not that quite.
