Celebrity now has some sailings stopping at Royal's private island resort Coco Cay.  I would ammed this one to say

#10 MSC's private island Ocean Cay has a dedicated YC area.  Celebrity uses Royal Caribbean's Coco Cay which does not have a dedicate Retreat area.

or something similar.

I love Ocean Cay , loads of servers getting drinks but also waiters to get your food had a excellent lobster roll there , celebrity sometimes stops at ladabee which does have waiters and a suite buffet but not as nice as YC

We sail on our first MSC cruise one week from today but we will not be stopping at Ocean Cay unfortunately.  I have heard both good and bad things but we like to experience things for ourselves before passing judgement.

Understand your viewpoint, however we have been on a few Celebrity cruises but never tried YC on MSC so its time to take the plunge  and give it a go, we may may regret it or may be converted who knows?

Just use a Travel agent!!!  Costs you nothing.

MSC can be a disaster with your reservation if anything goes wrong.

We do use a TA ??

Excellent.

This cruise line has goofed up many people's reservations in one form or another and when they do, you want a TA to handle it.

Many horror stories.

thankfully that level of entitlement was the minority and most YC were actually quite normal, had no silver spoons, and even - gasp - had jobs

Let us examine this a bit closer.

"Urban Dictionary: entitlement, someone who thinks something is owed to them by life in general; or because they are who they are."

"What does entitlement mean slang?

If someone has a sense of entitlement, that means the person believes he deserves certain privileges — and he's arrogant about it. The term "culture of entitlement" suggests that many people now have highly unreasonable expectations about what they are entitled to."

The Yacht Club is a fantasy world, and another variable in how one may be treated 'differently' by staff in hotels or cruises is in the way one presents oneself.  Four and five star venues go to a lot of trouble and expense to create an 'atmosphere of top notch elegance' and one fails to rise to the occasion and shows great disrespect by dressing in shorts, tank tops, flip flops and ball caps.

"When you pay for a stay in a hotel/cruise, you also pay for the comfort, amenities, and services of a hotel/cruise, but it does not necessarily mean that you can do and act whatever you like and however you feel. There are hotel manners that you must take note of. Courtesy and respect beget the same, and knowing what to wear in a hotel/cruise is a basic manner that makes a big difference. Most hotels/cruises establish a formality culture in dining as a sign of respect and consideration for other guests and the staff. Unless your dining wear is as comparable to your smart-casual wear, that wouldn’t be a problem."

" One can understand why dress codes are sometimes suggested by eateries of a certain merit: they wish for their guests to experience the world they have created. You can savor the luxury of top-notch service best when you too look and feel first-rate. The essence of fine dining wants to take patrons out of their ordinary lives, and for two hours, allow them to bask in the extraordinary experience of their choice. To truly be apart of such a supreme culinary happening—one must look the part and one must dress to dine."

This is not "entitlement" to immerse oneself in the fantasy created by the Yacht Club. We are treated like Royalty so why not act and dress like Royalty ? We 'play the game' and embrace the illusion created by our hosts of MSC Yacht Clubs, until we leave the ship and turn back into country bumpkins.

The entitlement to think that the YC service carries on to non-YC areas.

But hey, if you wish to write an essay over one word you took offence too, go ahead, you are completely entitled* to do so 😊

*as in allowed, I’m not looking for another essay 😁

If your in YC...you'll love it.

We did our first YC only because DH "is getting on in years" (mobility issues) and he really needed the service.  We became YC converts.  Since then we did 2 "with the masses" sailings (NCL, CCL) and although both were fine (I was his personal butler)....YC is just so much better.  His favorite thing was freshly grilled fish on the pool deck for lunch.  I swear, he came off that sailing "10 years younger" than when he boarded.  I have 2 YCs booked for 2024...not looking anywhere else.

Enjoy your trip and report back!

That is funny !  "To think that the YC service carries on to non-YC areas." When in fact the MSC website promotes just this.

"Discover the best of both worlds as a guest of MSC Yacht Club. Enjoy VIP access to amenities throughout your journey, from dining to captivating entertainment, while experiencing the personalized touch that extends from your suite to every corner of the ship."

"Savor the flavors of exquisite specialty restaurants such as Butcher's Cut, Kaito Sushi & Teppanyaki, HOLA Tacos, and Ocean Cay."

"Elevate your dining experience with exclusive perks like priority reservation times, premium seating, and the luxury of a personal butler escort if you choose.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  We are among the Celebrity Retreat guest that were encouraged to try MSC YC by a review that @generation-x did last year.  I am lalso ucky that I have to very seasoned travelers on the same cruise with me whose knowledge I have been drawing on.  @JamieLogical, who has already started her live review and @Mark_T who will also be sailing in the YC.

I normally do a live review, as evidenced by my signature, since I was inspired by @Jim_Iain a few years ago to do one and plan to start mine in a couple of days.

Yea...  Looking forward to it.

I really have enjoyed reading many of the Lives about NCL  YC.    I'll be interested in hearing of your experience.

While I like the concept and the price,  I'm still undecided if we will ever try them due to size of the ships and what I've read and seen on YouTube of the experience when one leaves the YC enclave.

Can't wait to follow along.

Would also add that even the staff outside the Yacht Clubs do not like dealing with the clientele.

Here is a case to suggest the importance of a 'good' personal butler. We took advantage of our butler's suggestion to have him escort us the first evening to introduce us to the maitre d' as we wanted our own table reserved at a specific time every evening with the same waiters (this was our first time on a Seaship and the butler on Explora 1 suggested he escort us to dinner the first time as well for the same request and introduction to the maitre d'). We discovered after many cruises the importance of our butlers' suggestion. This suggestion of an escort by butler is even more valuable and important outside the Yacht Club venue. We rarely make a reservation at any specialty restaurant on the ships because we love the YC restaurant (not even to bother using our complimentary Diamond meal). We were seated at our favorite table when a couple were seated next to us and she was dying to complain to everyone in ear shot what had just happened to them. They had reservations at Butcher's Cut and made their own way and seated like any other passenger. There is no way they were differentiated as a YC guest to the staff or manager (maitre d'). Seated next to them was a family with unruly, loud children and they immediately asked for another table. They were refused. They pointed to another table across the room and the manager again refused. They got up and left. On the way out telling the manager they were going to return to the Yacht Club and to cancel their reservation. To CYA he calls the maitre d' of the YC to try to smooth things over. Yes, Arthur was our maitre d' and he stood and took the tongue lashing for the Butcher's Cut manager.

If one doesn't differentiate oneself from the crowd, one will be treated like the crowd .

Thanks Jim.

@JamieLogical has already started hers live review.  She's not sailing in yacht club so her perspective and mine will be from two different points of view.

Here is a link to her review

Have a great cruise. Of course, I'll be following along with great interest.
