We were on Discovery this past november and there was no fee or tokens in laundry room. Even the laundry soap and dry sheets were on a shelf for free. Loved getting up early and starting laundry. It was done the way I wanted and it was a fast task and no waiting to get laundry back.

I've read that before.

I wonder if it was just offered for a while to get people accustomed to using the laundry?

It could have been but either way...I like doing my own and I use my own laundry soap sheets and dryer sheets.

Such a simple task to get done in early morning between cups of coffee. 😁

And husband helps out too for double duty 👍

Thanks for the explanations about the differences between "laundry" and "cleaning" and requesting a cold wash.  Will use them on our upcoming Ruby cruise.

Yep. My wife washes her own delicates. I send my boxer briefs out in the bag. I also send my shorts and long pants out. I had mixed results with my shirts. Tee shirts came back fine. Button up shirts - not so much. The first time I got back a shirt that had so much starch it could pretty much stand up by itself. I tried hanging it in the bathroom during showers but it was still stiff as a board. I ended up washing it again in the self laundry. Next we tried writing "NO STARCH" but the shirts still came back quite stiff. Not as stiff as originally but still unwearable. We only send out maybe 8 - 12 pieces at a time so it's not difficult to take a picture of the batch spread out on the bed. They overlap a bit to save space. Being on the ship for 63 days we definitely had laundry that needed to be done. (I did not take 63 pairs of underwear!) On the first half of the cruise I wore shorts all day and dockers, button up shirt, and black shoes in the evening. The second half of the cruise it was too cold for shorts so I wore long pants during the day and the shorts got laundered and stashed. On the formal nights I wore a suit and tie. My choice and it also makes my wife happy.

Men's underpants look very similar and quite often identical.  There should be a difference in appearance from the original photograph's condition. If they had a line up in security....

Items are either washed in a bag or a laundry tag is applied.

Again, want a cool wash do your own.  A couple dollars not worth ruined clothes.

My wife sent in a pair of brown corduroy pants. What she got back was an incredibly small pair of Skinny Jeans that looked like they would fit a 10 year old. Our steward had no idea what corduroy was - he was the absolute worst steward we have ever had - and a picture would have been invaluable in retrieving the correct piece of clothing. It took 3 days to get the item back. Now I take a picture of everything that goes out.

Mine are black Boxer Briefs with the word JOCKEY in large white letters around the waistband. Now isn't that far more info than you needed? (I'd prefer some that said "CODGER" but guess I would have to start my own line... )

I found another one of those dang tags on a pair of jeans the other day. We last disembarked a ship on November 29. Those are some firmly attached tags.

That's a shame.  I got 6 tokens last summer from Guest services. We sailed on the Emerald.

We have multiple tags on some of our clothes across multiple cruises. Its a bit out of hand lol

We were on the Royal last fall for an Australia/NZ cruise.  We are elite and had no problem getting free tokens, have a few left over for our next cruise.  We also take a picture if everything sent out in the laundry bag.  Wife also adds "wash in cold water" on the laundry slip, don't know if it has helped but nothing has ever come back shrunken.

 

Wondering if anyone has sent out a men's suit for "cleaning" and how it came back.

Generally my DH is in and out of his suit in short order on formal nights, preferring to change into something more comfortable before he hits up the casino. But on a couple of longer cruises where some portion of dinner ended up on his jacket or pants on an early formal night, we have sent his suit out to be cleaned in advance of the next formal night and always had it come back promptly and sparkling clean!

The last time I sent in my suit (about 14 years ago) it came back fine. It now sits in the closet gathering dust. 😄

I no longer need it on formal nights.

I am always surprised that someone will pay thousands for a cruise and then complain about a few dollars to wash clothes.

We were just on Enchanted and still had to use the tokens in the laundry room ($3 per washer/dryer).

Thanks for the comments on cleaning men's suits. Will try having mine cleaned next cruise.
