Coco Cay with toddlers

Recommended Posts

Do they have life jackets on the island like they do on the ship? Also if parents want to stay on the island & send kids back to the ship for naps w/Grandparents. Will there be any issue with that as long as we have their sign & sail cards? Our rsvps/cabins are linked.

This was most asked yesterday. Not my pictures. But they said yes. As far as sending them back onboard .. alone? If you take them back to grandparents sure, not sure I understand what you want to do. Are grandparents getting off with you? Sorry edited out the link.

Just for clarification grandparents will be on the island too, just wanted to make sure we could take them back to the ship for naps, while leaving parents on private island. They will be 2 & 1 year old and different last name.

I'm thinking toddlers are too young to reboard alone, but idk.

Yes, this is probably correct.

I would think the grandparents could take them back on the ship.

When a minor leaves the ship they ask who they are with to make sure a responsible adult is accompanying them, but I have not seen them ask who is bringing a minor onto a ship.

I think they do, but it'd be easier to choose a life jacket on Day 1 and keep it all week.  I mean, once you have one that fits /is adjusted correctly, I'd hold onto it for the cruise.

I don't think the ship really cares who brings kids back on.  Leaving the ship could be different.  The grandparents will definitely need the kids' Ship IDs ... any person of any age must be processed on and off the ship.

Do know, though, that it's a fairly long walk back to the ship.  Be sure you have a stroller or a wagon ... I wouldn't think it'd be easy for young toddlers who've been playing on the beach all morning.

Yes, there are huge racks of lifejackets on CocoCay, just as there are on the pool deck.

Am I reading this correctly?

Now we not only have chair hogs, you think that it's ok to be a lifejacket hog?!?!?!?

Definitely a possible new hot-topic to add to the ultimate "Hot-topic List."

Hopefully the OP is a new cruiser who has not seen the plethora of children's' life jackets on board and on Coco Cay. Let's leave it at that: otherwise, this thread will implode like so many others.

I think they can come back on alone. They just can't leave by themselves.

I don’t think they can, when we were coming back on the ship last month a young girl tried to get back on and they wouldn’t let her. She had to get her parents.

Our minor got off with his grandparents. And got back on with us in CocoCay.

My younger minor niece got off with her grandparents and back on with us in Puerto Rico. I don't remember having any issues with that and we all have different last names.

I think there is some confusion about where the Grandparents are when the youths are trying to board.

Are they with the Grandparents as the Grandparents board with them?

Are the Grandparents on-board but say, in their cabins as the youths board without an adult?

I would think they are with an adult upon boarding due to their ages and needing an escort for safety.

Maybe the OP  @BLAMBKY can clarify.

I read the original post as: parents and grandparents and kids get off ship.

Grandparents are done, kids are done, but parents want to stay on the island and enjoy another drink.  Can the grandparents reboard with the kids and leave the parents on the island?  (See post #4)

We did. My minor got off the ship with his grandparents, we were grabbing waters and hadn't made it off yet.

We went to a different boarding point than the grandparents getting back on the ship.

We went twice last year with a 4 year old and a 20 month old. There are life vests everywhere there is water more than about 6" deep

We didn't use one whilst on coco cay (actually at all due to the ship we were on (mariner) not having an infant nappy allowed area) and eldest using inflatable armbands

We bring a puddle jumper as below for the youngest. Our eldest can swim the full length of the ship pools unaided so we took inflatable arm bands.

We found on coco cay

  • The pirate ship at the end of the pier has no water depth, just sprays.
  • The splashaway Bay is mainly no depth just spray outside of the slide entry water which is about 6" deep. At the time he didn't do the slides, next time he'll be about 30 months so one of the adults will go down with him, but he'd be able to walk or even crawl out without us
  • The oasis pool (side furthest from swim up bar ) is walk in so we could stay in at a depth he could either touch the floor or float easily with puddle jumper on.
  • Eldest never wore any float aid at any of the above, youngest did about half the time at oasis pool nowhere else
  • South Beach naturally is the sea and was relatively choppy.  We made our oldest stay within arms reach and always wear floats in the sea. Youngest we held and he wore float throughout

Grandparents - you can link reservations and also you can register anyone to be allowed to check them in or out if kids club or nursery. I imagine if you do this it makes the process even simpler for the grandparents bringing them back aboard with out you.  We'll be doing this next cruise with their grandparents coming with us for the 1st time
