OBC - How to use it if I've already prepaid everything with my credit card?

Recommended Posts

Hello!  Some obc just popped up on my account today (presumably because I just made my final payments recently).  I've already prepaid my excursions, photo package, internet, and gratuity on my credit card.  Is there a way I can use the obc towards these?  I don't think the price will drop as I've been cancelling/repurchasing and so far I've locked in the lowest prices.  😁  Will guest service be able to do something onboard (essentially I want to exhaust the obc and put the rest on my credit card)?

We have 2 other rooms in our group facing a similar situation (everything prepaid but now have obc to spend).  😂

Thanks!

Call and cancel the prepaid gratuities.  The daily gratuity charge will then be deducted from OBC.

How much OBC do you have?

Hmmm... that could be an option.  But I locked in the grandfathered rate so I'm not sure if they will bump me up to the current (higher) rates.

I got $50, $100, $100 for 3 rooms.  Not much but $$ is $$.  😄

Yes, they will bump you to the higher rate if you pay onboard.

If it's only $50, then I'd just spend it.

Just remembered, it could also be the TA adding it.  New system for US TA's where they can add OBC on line without calling now and it shows up in the cruise planner.  Sadly it hasn't rolled out to TA's from other countries.

If it's TA OBC, then it should be refundable, right?

I did book through a TA.  I will give them a call but curious, what's the difference between refundable vs non-refundable?  Also, the TA is in Canada as that's where I am...

Refundable form your TA you get back if it’s not spent….otherwise it’s use it or lose it

Refundable, if unused, will go back to card on file for onboard expenses.

Non-refundable, if unused, will go *poof*.

You can likely cash out the OBC via the casino slot machine, even if non-refundable.

hmmmm... interesting....  any pointers on how I can go about doing this?  I usually walk past the casinos and don't spend much time there in the past.

The slot machine loophole was closed on Harmony last week. Non refundable OBC loaded to a machine works like promotional play and can’t be cashed out.

Download the OBC amount into the machine and hit cash out. Some have reported not being able to do this with non-refundable without playing some of it - I think they are a minority.

If the non refundable obc is treated like the free play promo cash C&A members get the first two days in the casino, then the machine tracks how much of the original (promo) money you've bet, and deducts any unused amount if you cash out.

If you don’t have a drink package, it’ll go quickly

What about the people who have no need or desire for drinks? We usually spend ours on things that don’t have the huge mark up drinks do. We try to get the balance as low as possible so no money leaves ou pockets.

We always cash out all of our refundable/non refundable out in the casino at the slot machines. It locks you out for 24 hours afterwards if you go back to the Casino, but we just take some cash to use if we want to gamble in the future.
