6/20/24: Double Cruise Credits for Captain's Circle Guests with Princess Cruises' New Loyalty Accelerator Program

Recommended Posts

IIRC, it’s been posted that it’s double the cruise credits and double the days however the Princess webpage for this offer repeatedly says only double cruise credits.

https://www.princess.com/en-us/cruise-deals-promotions/double-the-love

Princess has redefined the term “Cruise Credits” to be the same as the number of days sailed.

What are Cruise Credits?

Cruise credits refer to the number of cruises that a guest has sailed with Princess and/or the number of days cruised with Princess and are used to determine the guest’s Captain’s Circle loyalty level.

I agree. On Royal and Celebrity you follow the package prices like the Stock Market and wait until it crashes.

Royal Caribbean never crashes to anything near comparable with Princess package pricing, and it's only for alcohol with a 20% added gratuity on top.

The days and credits question is addressed on the same pages you referenced, but it is under the "Am I eligible for this Promotion?" FAQ.

Give Princess time. We switched from Princess to Celebrity when they offered the 123 Go promotion and Pick your Perk. When it first rolled out you got drinks, wifi, gratuity and $ 300 OBC. you could pick any 3. Now it's a crap shoot. Just booked a cruise with them and added drinks and Wifi for $50 a day at the time of booking. Had I waited to purchase after the booking it was $72.99 just for drinks. Now they are playing the discount game and are offering drinks for $53.99.

But once they are elite and if they are light drinkers they would get a mini bar or in a suite 2 minibars

I've seen the mini suite drinks offerings and they are pretty dire. And I don't get the excitement over the laundry option either.

The laundry option is great for us since we only take 7 day cruises if they are at least a b2b. For non drinkers the minibar can be turned into all waters, or sodas

I don't do laundry onboard, even on 3 week cruises! For us, the minibar is no use as we don't drink spirits but we do drink wine. So we have to have a package so that includes water/soda anyway. Only thing worthwhile to us is priority tenders.

You pack 3 weeks worth of clothes ?  We pack 7 days no matter how long the cruise. Send out laundry about every 3-4 days

We like having Elite status because it saves us approximately $400 on a 14 day cruise (internet reduction, laundry, minibar) plus since we buy excursions using OBC (stock, military, FCD)  the 10% rebate kicks in another $50 to $60.  The concept of spending over $100 per day extra, just to make it possible to maybe save  about $34 per day in the future faster seems a bit strange to me.

And if they continue to buy packages once they get elite status their savings drops to about $22 per day and that is only if they send their laundry out.

Not a good deal unless they are just looking to say that they are elite whatever the cost.

There are a lot of people who find the package to be of value with or without the extra points. I don't chase points but if I happen to book a cruise or had a cruise booked during this time frame it would just be icing since we always book with a package if the price makes sense for us. This does not compel me to cancel my Celebrity cruise which is in the same time frame to book on Princess or compel me to book an additional cruise or sail solo in a suite just for extra points.

We pay double so we should be rewarded for paying for two.

But that really is the whole point.  Princess can choose to reward whomever it believes is paying extra money.  Suites are expensive--let's reward people who book them.  Spa treatments are expensive--let's reward people who pay for them.  Anyone who books three or more excursions through Princess is paying a lot of money--let's reward them.  Plus and Premier are expensive--let's reward people who purchase those.  The point is that once Princess veers off of counting EXACTLY the right number of cruises or days at sea, it becomes completely discretionary as to which people receive the benefit. There is no logic behind double-counting single cruisers or people who book suites that cannot also be applied to people who pay extra money for other things.  Money is money.   This is a binary decision by Princess--either count ONLY the exact number of cruises/days, or give people extra credits.  Once the decision is made to give extra credits, there is no logic, math or reasoning that can be used to justify one subgroup of cruisers to the exclusion of others. We're just used to one paradigm.  But that paradigm is not the only possibility.

Per the FAQs shown under the link you sent - and yes, another example of inconsistent /  contradictory language shown for the same offer:

We wear things more than once and if you pack sensibly with mix and match options then it's quite easy. Daytime, shorts/crops and t shirt or top don't take up much room. We only bring one case each and that includes full formal kilt outfit etc.

For those of you that are after this offer, it would be worth accessing your cruise history/future cruises list by logging into your Captain's Circle account on Princess' website and checking to see if you are being credited what's being promised during the promotion's duration after July 1.  This list is accurate (as least in showing extra cruise credits if sailing on a multi segment sailing sold as one sailing) in terms of showing how many credits you will earn on a particular future sailing.  I'd assume it the list would update accordingly with this promotion.

I have Princess Plus on upcoming September cruise and my Captain's Circle account still lists it as a single cruise credit and 16 days, not doubled to 32.  More likely that the promotion won't be recorded until after the cruise has been completed, just in case I should decide to cancel the Princess Plus promotion before sailing?

Don't know what to tell you.  I commented a few pages back, questioning Princess IT ability to handle this promotion.

ETA:

I take back my previously comment above.  It seems like the credits will post upon your return.

exactly correct they wont show up until the cruise is completed and usually takes a couple of weeks to update those numbers

I’m now booked on an eligible sailing (with a Plus package) as a solo in a suite. My Future Cruise listing lists only the 3 credits that I would receive under ordinary circumstances rather than the 6 I’m hoping for. I’ve emailed my CVP for confirmation of 6 before I make final payment next month. It’ll be the first contact I’ve had with him, but I hope he can provide an answer.

See reply #270.  It'll be fun dealing with Princess if you're not credited according to the offer.
