Rare JP350 Posted July 21 #1 Share Posted July 21 Hi, I'm shopping on amazon for my upcoming Celebrity sailing (4 night on Reflection), and I am having trouble choosing between 2 power adapters. One adapter says Germany/France compatible, and the other says European compatible. I've always seen the, what I thought were, European outlets on cruises, and both plugs look like they could work with the outlets on the ship. Most people need USB outlets, not actual AC outlets. Even jwlane's photo is showing a bunch of USB cables plugged into individual adapters that would work fine with a single USB charging hub. And gain USB C which is by far the most common today. Plugging a Type E/F adapter with a bunch of Type B outlets is a good way to forget and plug a 110V item into a 220V outlet. I really was just looking for a way to use the 220v outlet, which goes unused on most of my sailings. I would just use a USB adapter, but I, especially on trips where I use it a lot, charge my phone during the day, and that’s much better using a power brick at 20v vs a 5v usb connection. If I'm not mistaken Type CDE may all fit the grounding or non-grounding is in different location. I also found that at an air BnB in Venice I requested to use a Type L with 3 prongs. I completely missed @chengkp75’s post, but that’s what I’ll do. An extra 2 bucks is worth it for the grounding aspect, and future European travel. The second adapter will do that with the advantage that it's much less likely to pull out of the socket from weight. You're still stuck using all of your own 20W USB adapters. The USB sockets on it are USB A, so low power and slow. This is $56 on Amazon (it was, of course, on sale for Prime Day last week...). U Green also makes some nice ones. I like the fact that they have a detachable cord, so you don't have to worry about gravity pulling them out of the socket, and you can either use the cables you have, or usually get less expensive ones pretty easily for travel. The Anker has four USB C/PD outlets and two low wattage USB A outlets. There are versions on the market that have more. With an E/F adapter you can use the 220V outlet in the cabin, although be aware that housekeeping uses that outlet and they don't always plug your stuff back in... No wrong answer, just some options. I think you mean "C/E/F" not "C/D/E". But, anyway, type "C" is not grounded, while "E" and "F" are grounded in different locations, but using a type "E" plug in a type "F" outlet, or vice versa, will eliminate the grounding feature of the plug, as the plug grounding will not match the outlet grounding. The thing is, the type "C" plug is still legal in many countries around the world, even though it is ungrounded. However, using it for a multi-outlet adapter is risky. The two pin, flat (the insert does not fill the round recess) version of type "C" is supposed to be limited to 2.5 amps (600w) total power, so using it for hair dryers, etc, is not recommended. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I came across this during the Prime days sale last week and grabbed one thinking it could be useful to utilize the "unused" outlet. It is clear in the description that it isn't a power converter. Would this work for general charging purposes (phone, watch, Kindle, etc?)? None of us use hair dryers so that consideration isn't needed.
