Dottymac Posted September 17 #1 Share Posted September 17 Does anyone know if Electric Heated Eye Pads for dry eyes are allowed on board? I use these every day to manage my condition. Thank you.
Rare 1025cruise Posted September 17 #2 Share Posted September 17 Generally, no.
Dottymac Posted September 17 Author #3 Share Posted September 17 So if I tried to board with them would they be taken off me?
Rare markeb Posted September 17 #4 Share Posted September 17 Is this the small USB powered version?
Dottymac Posted September 17 Author #5 Share Posted September 17 Yes. I use it to manage a medical condition. I can't believe they let me take my hair straighteners on but not these.
Rare markeb Posted September 17 #6 Share Posted September 17 The wording seems straightforward until you look at something like that which is specifically designed to not actually get hot, just warm. They may take it and give it back at the end. The wording for prohibited items is: ***Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners.
Dottymac Posted September 17 Author #7 Share Posted September 17 Thanks Markb. Yes I saw that wording which is what made me ask to clarify if anyone had exprienced an exception to it. I will take it in my hand luggage and see what they say. It generates very low heat and only for the 10 minutes it is in use. Thank you for replying. Rare markeb Posted September 17 #8 Share Posted September 17 Good news is the water in the sinks is EXTREMELY warm if you have to go the wet wash cloth method...
Dottymac Posted September 17 Author #9 Share Posted September 17 Thank you for your optimistic solution 😄 Yes i will have to revert to "old school" if necessary. Shame as these things are brilliant and maintain the same low level temperature for the duration with great results.
Rare markeb Posted September 17 #10 Share Posted September 17 You're the first person I've heard of who's used one. May have to break down and order one from Amazon...
Dottymac Posted September 17 Author #11 Share Posted September 17 Go for it. My husband reluctantly got one too after too many infections caused by dry eye. He has surprised himself and finds it very relaxing as well.
Ellis1138 Posted September 17 #12 Share Posted September 17 Why leave it to chance? Contact Celebrity's medical/special needs department and ask if you can bring it.
Noworkforme23 Posted September 17 #13 Share Posted September 17 I use one nightly as well. I have severe dry eye syndrome. Mine is cordless and you heat it up via usb charger. I am going to bring mine in my carry on luggage on December 7 on the Apex. I will let you know if it is taken away. Mine also turns off in 15 minutes. LOVE it,
jelayne Posted September 18 #14 Share Posted September 18 Do they have an auto shut off after a set time? DH had a medical condition that required heat. I contacted special need and they gave me guidance on what we could bring and board and what would be needed to be provided. Original packaging was one thing I recall. jwlane Posted September 18 #15 Share Posted September 18 Keep it in your carryon, tell them it's a charging device if queried.
spammie Posted September 18 #16 Share Posted September 18 Put it in your carry-on along with a note from your doctor.
phillygirl2400 Posted September 18 #17 Share Posted September 18 I use cornea care Rest. They are individually packed self-heating eye masks. They are much better for travel than plug-in masks.
sdnich Posted September 18 #18 Share Posted September 18 I have had issues with dry eyes for years and have never heard of this. I bring along a few packs of individual lubricant drops. But will definitely try this out. I am leaving tomorrow for Vancouver to get on Solstice Sunday so not enough time to order from Amazon . Is this something I can buy in a drugstore??
phillygirl2400 Posted September 18 #19 Share Posted September 18 Don’t know. I’ve only bought from Amazon and Cornea Care.

Telepepe cordless heated eye mask. It has 3 heat setting, usb charging and it shuts off after 15 minutes. LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. I am on the computer all day and have dry eye syndrome and multiple dry patches on my eyes. I can’t wear contacts at all.
dreamer321 Posted September 21 #21 Share Posted September 21 (edited) Fill out the Guest Special Needs Form and send to special_needs@celebrity.com. Get the equipment pre-approved then there shouldn't be a problem bringing it on board. Edited September 21 by dreamer321

Yeah, because they're all fools who won't have a clue. I'll bring a hotplate and tell them it's a prayer mat. Don't lie. Explain what it is, and if it's deemed safe to use on board then I'm sure you'll be fine. Edited September 21 by Trevor Fountain typo

I daily use the TheraPearl eye mask that I microwave at home and bring a small rubbermaid and warm in 'tea' hot water when I cruise but it doesn't get as hot or stay as warm as long as microwaving. I took this one out of its fabric casing and it worked great! I just use under my eyes to warm up the glands to make the oil flow and not on my eyes. I did the first half on high and then went down to medium for the second half of my 8.5 minute morning eye session.
Dottymac Posted October 1 Author #24 Share Posted October 1 Thank you for all of your replies and suggestions. I did not have time to fill a Guest Needs form as I was sailing the following day. In the end I detached the USB cable from my eyepad and my husband took that in his hand luggage with his other chargers and cables. I kept my eyepad in my hand luggage. It was all checked at security and no questions asked.
sdnich Posted October 8 #25 Share Posted October 8 I am going to order a few of the suggestions here ! I just got off a 9 day cruise with just lubricant drops and lumify to help for redness .
