RCI Grandeur leaving Tampa 10/7. We should get option for rebook

RCI just sent email that 10/-12 which is a 5 night out of Tampa, instead of going to Cozumel and costa maya now going to one port…Nassau.  Not even to their private island.  Ridiculous because NOAA says it’s headed towards Florida and the Bahamas!🙄🙄😳😳

Coco Cay can only handle 2 ships and I'm sure is already booked up.

Unfortunately, This is the chance you take when traveling during hurricane season.  

 

They may even change the itinerary once onboard.

Itinerary changes are always an accepted risk by virtue of booking a cruise.

That's why it's always good to book a ship that can serve as the destination, just in case. Grandeur, unfortunately, is not one of those ships. Hope it was cheap at least.

The cruise lines have little choice in the matter.  They will always position their itineraries to the safest waters with impending hurricanes for the safety of the ship, its crew, and the passengers.  On short notice they may have little or no options regarding alternate ports of call and end up with completely different itineraries as a result.  

 

I am also certain that RCI and its ship's captains understand best what options are available with the impending storm and are making the best decisions, even if on the surface it may not make sense to you. If you read the details with the T's & C's of your cruise contract you will see they have no obligation to offer any rebooking options in these circumstances.  They may if they choose, however, offer something in terms of OBC or future cruise credit depending on the actual final impact to your cruise.

If you live in FL and plan on driving to port make sure to park your car somewhere high and hopefully safe if the storm does hit Tampa.

 

Also, be prepared to have an extra day incase the port isn't open for your return.  It happens.

Just read that the Tampa airport closing tomorrow morning at 9 am. 51 counties under state of emergency. Storm surge of 10-12 feet which would be devastating. Florida looking to evacuate 3 million people. Prayers for everyone in Milton's path.

Definitely wouldnt  park at the Tampa port with this thing coming, especially with the flooding that happened with Helene.

I get it that not everyone lives in Florida or has any experience with flooding, but when a car gets flooded, it’s totaled. And after watching the news here and seeing that Teslas catch fire when in contact with salt water…..well that’s enough for me.

Like that one commercial (carfax?) where they show a flooded car and have on the screen "slight water damage" or something like that.

I don’t know about that, but the flood cars are towed to a location to be evaluated and processed from there.

Can anyone confirm if cars were flooded at valet parking during Helene?  We have valet parking on an upcoming cruise in November.  Not too concerned because we are later in hurricane season, but I wondered if it has happened before.

Yup, flooded vehicle especially with salt water is a total loss.
