Thank you to all for the great input!

A prior post mentioned "Celebrity, which has gotten expensive for a declining experience" -- this is exactly the reason we have decided to seek alternatives!

We have been on the Royal class of ships on Princess several times.  We book a full suite and if possible one of the aft corner ones which have the huge balconies.  These suites fall somewhere between a CS & a RS on Celebrity for AT LOT LESS $$.  With a full suite on these ships you have the reserve dining room, a concierge lounge which offers cocktails at night, many other perks which, for us makes it a win win.  No, there are no butlers but we never missed one.

I don't know about the Sun, which is a new ship, but suspect you will enjoy yourself.

Smoking in the casino is a No No for us yes smoking outside no problem we avoid those areas and by the way never mentioned vaping

One issue is that according to another thread, the TV in Princess cabin says clearly (I have seen the post) that vaping IS ALLOWED in Princess cabins.  But Princess employees are writing in emails that it is not Princess policy.  Who do you believe?

What keeps me from booking is that Princess allows vaping inside cabins and smoking in the casino.  I actually found a medical journal that said vape residue can be harmful.

This isn't true.  There is no smoking including vaping in cabins.  The same as other cruise lines.

Despite these steps and assurances, it took me three months and sixteen phone calls before all of my money was returned.  Nope, never again.

It took me four months to get a $250 deposit.  Every time I called I was given a different reassurance.  None were true.  I finally received a check  because I asked my Princess Cruise Vacation Planner (CVP) to assist.  I was trying not to involve her because I thought it was a simple request by calling but evidently not.  😐

I would suggest not booking online but through a CVP.

Princess Cruises prohibits smoking or vaping of all types, including e-cigarettes, in guest staterooms and balconies.

If I wasn’t having a bad day I would link to the post which clearly showed a message on a PRINCESS CABIN TV that very clearly shows VAPING ALLOWED IN PRINCESS CABINS.  So do you suppose passengers on Princess will vape in their cabins?  I’ll look for it tomorrow.

Also on a princess cruise now. One and done for us. The smell of the smoke carries through 2 main decks of the ship. Food just ok… staff does bare minmium.  Long wait for drinks and the medalion app doesnt work that well. Too many things we did not like. Back to celebrity for us.  Way bettter product in so many ways.

My cruise contract said that vaping was allowed in the cabin.  There was a lengthy thread about this on the Princess board.  I am not sure if they have corrected the cruise contracts to not allow vaping yet?

I did cancel my Princess cruise over this.

Cigarette ashes found on my balcony floor this morning.  Again:.. celebrity all the way for us after this

Our last Celebrity cruise we had smokers next to us, smoking on the balcony.... it happens on every cruise line because there are people everywhere that don't think the rules apply to them.

Also on the HAL board others said that vaping was in the cruise contract for cabins.  I cannot confirm as I do not have a HAL cruise booked.

I thought the conclusion from that thread you started was that Princess indeed prohibited smoking/vaping in the cabins and balconies and that this specific contract language was old and was in need of an update.  Right?

Yes.  Waiting for an updated cruise contract to be displayed.   Show me the cruise contract with the updated wording...  It allows vaping until they change it.

I received a different answer from guest services myself...

I was told on another site that Princess US contract does allow vaping in cabins.  That international does not perhaps?  Is that cruises sold to US residents?  Cruises leaving from US ports???  I have no clue.

Just going back to the comparison thing ,I just had my first HAL cruise and have only ever sailed with Celebrity before and have to say I won't complain much again after this cruise .

I found the verandah cabins similar but the bed wasn't nearly as comfortable (had to request a mattress topper)and neither were the pillows very good (lumpy).

The air-conditioning was either on full blast or off in our cabin which resulted in me now having a chest infection .

The entertainment was not great with only 3 bands on each day and the Theatre hardly ever used and the lack of activities around the ship was quite apparent .

I do have to complement them on the food though which was excellent in all the venues we tried .

Celebrity seems to be just better in quite a number of departments but we just had to try something different to see what's best for us going forward .

.
