NOORDAM 1/6 Cruise - Where's The Details

Recommended Posts

While I've long known that it is true that different people will experience different things on the very same cruise, rarely have we seen such glaringly different experiences from the exact same sailing reported.

I'm sorry your cruise aboard the Noordam was not of the same positive caliber as mine and many of the others who have posted here. Did we have a chance to meet aboard ship?

Seems that the bad taste has been around since November 13 when you aired your displeasure about no smoking in the casino on the Noordam.

Karen ;)

Perhaps it would be a good idea if you read of our experience once again - the smoking issue had nothing to do with the poor service - cold food - not changing the bed linens for 11 days - not cleaning out the drawers in the vanity and leaving toiletries from a previous passenger - the soiled bathrobes that were not replaced - these are all facts and not fiction - also HAL should be taught what "High Tea" is and how it is to be served - I commend you on your loyality to HAL - our complaints to the Hotel Manager - the Maitre"D - our Steward were never addressed in a satisfactory manner - on a 5 Star cruise Line - one should not have to spend their vacation time trying to correct the errors of the cruise line ---our past loyality to HAL has certainly been diminished - although the standards of HAL have dropped - we maintain our high standards - Also - I would like to mention that the remark made about the "No Smoking Issue" on a previous cruise was considered as a hit below the belt -

Yes, it was a very nice get-together.

And, yes, I would enjoy getting to meet you again. Frankly, I'm not placing you. If I were to see your face I'm sure I would remember, though. I'm great with faces and real names, but not with screen names. :) If you would like, shoot me an e-mail via my aol address (revneal@aol.com).

Again, I'm sorry your cruise didn't live up to your standards. As I said, I've know that such does happen, I had just never seen it so-illustrated. I'm sorry it had to be you.

I am really astonished as to your post about HAL. This was our 7th cruise on HAL and had the most wonderful time on this one. We were in a suite on this cruise and our bed linens were changed, our room was straighened out at least twice daily and we had no complaints. Our cabin steward was the best.

As reformed smokers we were very happy that the casino was smoke free. The only problem was that there was smoking across the way in the Sports Bar. There should be no smoking anywhere inside on the ship. Sorry smokers but you should have to go outside to smoke.

My apologies for the hit below the belt. I am not a board rebel rouser and have no intentions as such. I simply read your previous posts and came to a (I suppose incorrect) conclusion. All of the other posters were raving about this particular cruise and your review seems so contrary, I had to assume that there were some underlying issues.

I have no loyalty to HAL as I have never sailed HAL. My first HAL cruise is on the Noordam in December. I also have never seen HAL referred to as a 5-star line. Unlike you, I am new to the cruising world and have only been on two to date. It sounds as though you have good reasons to have been disappointed in your cruise. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

My reference to the no smoking issue happened because of the tone of your previous posts leading up to this particular cruise. If I was wrong, again, my apologies.

I am sorry about your disappointing experience. I was amazed at the difference between the several experiences.

That said...I can honestly say I have sailed 3 of the Vista classes on numerous occcasions, all in S suites and find there has been a tremendous difference in service both between ships and also within the same ship only a few months apart AND with the same crew. I don't want to say it's hit or miss because obviously it has never been THAT bad that I have felt the need to no longer book HAL. We did go over to NCL to try the freestyle but came back because of the crew and fellow passengers...it just wasn't the same on NCL.

I agree "high tea" is not really traditional when served in suite but it was certainly lovely and very up to snuff in the dining room daily. On NCL we had "high tea" served in our suite by our butler and that too was not as we would have expected. Don't get me wrong...I do enjoy it but not quite the traditional experience the someone brought up in a very "british" household would have come to know....I can thank my mum for that.

I look back at the cruises I have taken and certainly service-wise some were better than others....on my Westerdam trip in October I had a wonderful time but a fellow CC member had a disappointing experience...go figure.

I hope you have the opportunity to sail HAL again and if you choose not to I wish you many wonderful cruises in the future.

Brian, Congrats on the new job!! WOOT! for you!!

Greg, you look amazing, as usual! Great review!

Ruthles, Keaka's favorite evening spot was the piano bar! We really DO need to cruise together.

Eventually, I would LOVE for the three of us to cruise with you ALL!! It sounds like such a blast!!

Oh!! I didn't know I hadn't told you!! (It's got to be the hormones)

Keaka and I are working on the nursery, and have decided on a nautical theme. Sail boats and such for a boy, and cute sea creatures or pink sunsets for a girl :p

Our kid is going to be a HALophite before its even born! he he he :D ...looks like early dinner times, room service, or dinner in the lido for the first few years for us! I'm sure Uncle Greg, Auntie Ruth, Auntie Lynne, Auntie Su, Uncle Tony, Uncle Brian, and everyone else (hormones are making me forget) will help Keaka and I raise a proper cruiser ;)

p.s. Ruth, you will be happy to know the undertone of the room will be boy= aqua with CHOCOLATE accents or girl = Pink with CHOCOLATE accents ;)

Mary and Keaka,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

I am so happy for you!

How WONDERFUL!

When is your skeet -- ah, er, baby -- due?

No ... seriously ... this is wonderful!

If it's a boy, you gonna name him "Hal?"

Keaka wants a Junior... We might call him HAL as a nick name, though, as we are nearly sure that it was our second night aboard that we "made" him. ;) :D

I was thinking NoorAH for a girl...j/k (We want a hannah elizabeth if its a girl).

This is just WONDERFUL.

We'll have to get him/her a t-shirt that read "I was conceived aboard the Noordam!"

Do they make shirts like that?!?! That would be awesome! Or one that read, "Mommy and Daddy Got it ON aboard the Noordam!" ;) lol

I SOOOO wanted a "Dam Ships" shirt, but whenever I tried to go shopping in the gift shop I either met with a rude sales person, the sales person was no where to be found and the liquor person didn't know anything, or I got caught up by the jewelry and never got to the shop. Now I'm kicking myself. Oh well!!
