I asked our waiter if they would have moussaka at dinner during the cruise. He said he would find out, and told me that they did not plan to but he would have a surprise for us. The next night he had a special plate of moussaka for our entire table!
Ah, the advantage of travelling on a ship with Greek officers! How was it?

- a daily pass ($20) to the Persian Gardens if you want to try it out before spending $100 for the entire cruise

- creme brulee available every night at dinner IF you pre-order it

 

 

I'm only on page two and already have a question! Will they warm up the creme brulee if I preorder and asked nicely? My first one (in my life) was warm, and that's the only way I like it. I truly don't even care if they bring me a dish of hot water for me to put my CB dish on [i'm very casual and willing to do my own thing to have things perfect :-)] I also hardly eat desserts (other than fruits), so the CB might be the only dessert I'll have.

I didn't read through all 15 pages...but on the Infinity in Dec, the table next to us - people we knew - ordered a big cooked veggie platter for the table every night! It had cauliflower, broccoli, and other veggies on it under a delicious creme sauce.

When we were on RCL the one time, the waiter brought out cheese & crackers for the table before dinner. So when we went to Hawaii on Celebrity, I thought "why not ask?". There is a cheese & fruit plate offered for dessert and I asked for it before dinner and it was there every day. Also when we went to Alaska they gave it to us & the couple we were with when asked. Love the idea of the fresh berries for dessert.

 

You can get strip steak, chicken breast, shrimp cocktail, salmon, Caesar Salad every day. Also the Aqua Spa has a great cashew chicken plate at lunch. The back of the buffet area has themed lunches, Mexican, Chinese, etc every day.

 

Thanks everyone for so many good ideas for the next cruise I can't wait until 1/15/06 for the next one.

One night on our recent Summit cruise, we noted that they were offering Key Lime Pie (a favourite!) in the casual upstairs restaurant but not on the main dining room menu. We asked our waiter if we could have some for dessert. He said that he would check and reported back that there was no more available that night but would try and have some for the next night.

For dessert the next night, he had arranged for an entire pie for our table.:D

Not always.........We did the 11 cruise on the Zenith and I tried that very thing. Added waffles to my hang on the door breakfast and when breakfast was delivered I was told "sorry,we cannot get you anything that is not listed on the room service list"

You have to be a little reasonable. Waffles don't come out of the kithchen but from a special area in the buffet. If you had asked for hash browns or lox and bagels it would have been different.

 

In a suite, your butler WILL go get you waffles but he has to go stand in line like everyone else.

hot tubs are all over by the pools, then you can also enjoy the Thalotherapy pool in the Aqua Spa for FREE on M Class ship, and you pay to enjoy it on the other classes.

 

Go into the ladies changing room at the spa & there are free saunas to use.

 

 

As to the food, the answer is "until it hurts".

 

As for the "jacuzzi", if you are any of the following ships - Summit, Millennium, Constellation, Infinity - there is no charge. While I haven't given it a try, I understand that the saunas are also available (wet or dry). For other services, there are various charges.

 

On the other Celebrity ships, there is a charge for the "jacuzzi" (actually, it's a lot bigger than that) unless you're in a suite.

When you arrive & meet your steward immediately have him remove the minibar & cool down the fridge to use. We did it first cruise & where charged for every item we touched, eventho we restocked it. SO NEVER AGAIN! Let the Steward do it.

 

On Connie last Sept, the steward didn't turn on the fridge so our champagne exploded from the heat of being in the fridge for 4 days. How stupid!!! But we got 2 bottles of Monet Brut for that show, watching them clean it all up.

I've read elsewhere that you can ask your cabin steward or butler to just remove these items from your cabin. Is that true, or do you need to "store" them somewhere and replace them at the end of the cruise?

How do you make the fridge cooler? When we complained to our steward that the fridge wasn't very cold, he told us that it was basically a cooler and that it couldn't be made as cool as a refrigerator.
Very good question -- never did see any control on the inside or front side, and the front corners are bolted down. Would guess there's a control in the rear, as I cannot imagine that a device like this would be built without an adjustable thermostat.

 

They're not very cold, that's for sure. Good enough for red wine, and that's about it.

My DH always has it brought to the cabin; by me!

 

In my father in law's case, it was my husband who brought it to his cabin (he also brought it to me one time) almost daily for his a.m. snack. Poor FIL was waking up MIL in the middle of the night for a snack, so DH felt bad for mom and got the sushi and sashimi ready.

 

To answer my own question about the creme brulee, they weren't very successful in warming it up for me, so I ate it as is... can't complain!

 

Oh... and I got decaffeinated iced tea brewed for me for dinner. It's my drink of choice, but normally I can't have it with caffeine that close to bedtime.

you are a woman(?) after my own heart. I too like my Creme Brulee warm, had it the first time on the Norway warm, and my iced tea decaf. at night. I did have a waiter in a resturant refuse to warm it one time insisting that it is supposed to be served cold. Maybe so but I like it much better warm and for the amount of calories in that little dish I am getting it the way I like it or not at all. I never thought to ask if they could brew me decaf. iced tea for dinner, we'll see. Joan

The heated Thalassotherapy pool and 2 heated spas next to it are free on M-class ships. A Sauna is located in the changing rooms. I don't know if it is free. Is this Sauna called Persian Gardens or is that a different place?

I didn't take a tour of the PG while at the spa, but my SIL did. I think it cost $200 for the entire time, but I didn't pay attention to what the services were. I also didn't see the door that you go into to get there. I did see the back door which had a sign that read something like "Please enter the PG through _____ (I forgot, maybe through the lobby)," but I don't remember anything about restricted... still, it's implied... perhaps the women thought it was a free area, like the T-pool and gym. I'm very sure the sauna in the spa bathroom is free and is not the PG.

 

Joan - yes, I am female. Many waiters (like 80%) have refused to warm up the creme brulee for me at restaurants - some will have perplexed looks like I'm the only person in the world who's ever asked or they just say "NO". That's really the only time that I have that huffy look and don't order anything. To me, it really wouldn't kill them to ask the torcher to torch a little long or to stick the ramekin in a hot water dish for 5 minutes for me. I don't need it hot, just slightly warm (although I do know that some worry that the custard part could liquify). I spoke to someone who came here from France, and she said that it's served both warm and cold in France.

How will we find out if it has been renewed in May? What can/can't the shipboard credits be used for? I am assuming all gift shop items, spa treatments, beverages and special meals purchased onboard, yes? Can it be used for gratuities? Can it be used for excursions? Do you forfeit any amount you do not use during your cruise or does it get carried over to your next cruise?

 

i have just (13 june 2005) been in contact with tensi westreicher at rcl, and here is the latest scoop on shipboard credits for shareholders of at least 100 shares of royal caribbean cruises, ltd. you may STILL buy your shares (today, even) and take advantage of the credits. The onboard credit is taken from the total of your onboard account; your total charges minus the onboard credit will be your total charges. It does not make any exclusions.

 

i hope this clears up all the confusion. many were saying that the offer had expired, and indeed, an earlier publication from rcl indicated that you needed to have owned the shares as of 15 april 2005 in order to take advantage of the shipboard credits. they have apparently recanted on this deadline.

 

please don't take my word on this. berfore you purchase any shares of rcl, you might want to receive your own confirmation from tensi that this offer is still valid. the email address is shareholderbenefit@rccl.com.

This is just the Best thread, I've read on almost any message board on any topic in ages- I have no tips- Every other year myself, "She who must be obeyed" and our gang of wacky friends (some going back to elementary school) take a presidents week cruise together. This will be our first Celebrity cruise and 38 of us will be heading out on the Millie- We're very excited and as things get close- we'll have loads of questions- Thanks for this thread though- Fun reading

The chocolate croissants in the Cova Cafe are not [repeat not] the same as served elsewhere on the ship. They are only made there and are worth the trip. I was told by the attendant that they should not be taken back to our room -- one presumes so that I would pay for espresso next door -- even as he handed my a plate with a wink.

This plan was an abject failure for us in Buenos Aires. We thought we were so smart all the way up until they wouldn't let us back off the ship.

 

Finally we went for a modified plan where we drop off the luggage and then go toruing the embarcation city. By the time we finally get back to do the boarding routine, there is no one in line and we are processed very quickly.

 

We have done it this way multiple times, and no one has ever refused us permission to hand over the baggage early.
