Radiance of the Seas.....Past - Present - Future

Recommended Posts

I need some help from frequent cruisers and Radiance past guests.

DH and I are scheduled for the 04/16/2011 sailing from Tampa in cabin 9560, which I've been told is a D1. We are considering taking DS (14) with us now. I know I will have to call the online agency we booked with to add him, but I want to be able to see what it will cost before we do it. When I called for the upgrade from an interior to a balcony, at first I was told I would have to pay for the upgrade. The agency's computer had not updated with the price drop. Now I can't find an available D1 on the ship for that sailing to check the price for a 3rd passenger. I don't want to pay more than the correct price to add him.

Can anyone offer suggestions for how to go about finding the correct fare? Will RC tell me the correct price if the booking is not through them? I am hoping to make the decision this weekend, so rapid responses are appreciated. Thanks!

You could always talk to the online agency and ask them what the price would be before you commit to it.

Couple of other suggestions, find another sailing (same ship, same route, same number of days) with the same prices and check what it would be for the 3rd passenger in a D1.

I've found that "ball park figure"--the 3rd passenger is somewhere around 1/2 the cost of the first passenger.

Good luck!

Are there any balconies available at all? I believe 3/4 pricing is always the same within the group e.g. D2. Even if there are no balconies available in any grade, you could check other groups e.g. Ocean view and suites. They're often the same for 3/4 and if not, should still be within the same ball park e.g. $100 out.

Regarding your second question about RCL, if they think it's for a new booking they will tell you, but are unlikely to for an existing one, and since you don't have any available in D1, you probably won't have much luck trying that way, unless you're really lucky and someone is willing to help out.

Hi- great thread-

Question-

Does anyone have experience with the D-1 Superior balconies on the 9th floor? Are these cabins larger than the regular balconies and I have been advised that these D-1 cabins ( 9046 & 9038 ) have partial obstructions ? Any comments sincerely appreciated!

:)Thanks :)

We've been on several of the Radiance class ships (including the Radiance itself) and have had the D-1 rooms several times. As far as I know all the D-1 cabins are the same size. However, the balcony on some D-1s are larger than others--the ones on each side of the hump.

Does anyone know what date the itineraries for Radiance in Australia 2012/13 will be released? European routes are already out, but I wondered when Radiance's would be available to book.

Thanks:).

There's a thread about it here.... http://www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1355193 Looks like the week of April 4th.

The D1 cabins are larger than the E1, E2 or E3 cabins with the main difference being a 3 cushion sofa in the D1 and a 2 cushion loveseat in the E cat cabins.

Here's a stock RCI picture of a D1 cabin.

The partial obstruction can be the window washing equipment that is stored toward the aft.

RadianceStarboardAft.jpg

or the lifeboat covers off of deck 7 that don't allow you see straight down from the edge of the balcony to the water. For reference....this pictures was taken from the bridge. The people on their balcony are in cabin 9002 and the solid white area you see 2 decks below and toward the bumped out part are the lifeboat covers.

If you have any more questions, please ask.

Dimiegirl: We prefer Radiance class ships but like others have said..we will go on the bigger ships also if the itinerary and timing are right. That said I have been on the Constellation and Summit for TA's...Very nice ships...Radiance has a special place in our hearts though. ...There is just something about Radiance we don't feel on other ships... I think I read somewhere that they will be moving the concierge lounge when she goes into drydock. If indeed I wasn't dreaming (I can't find it now), do you know where it will be moving to?

Thanks, Maria

The CL is being moved to where the Hollywood Odyssey is currently located on Deck 13.

And the current CL is being turned into a JS. Or at least that is what the H/O Diamond event bartender told us last month.

Never believe a bartender. The current CL will be a family suite of some sort. This is info from the concierge and the hotel director - more reliable sources. :)

So where on the boat can you watch live sports? My hubby is into March Madness basketball games this week and our team (Go Gators!) plays on Thursday night...and hopefully Saturday night too. It's on TBS.

Is it likely the game will be on the ship? I heard they had playoff games for football in January. If they are showing it where would I look or where is the best place to watch it? Thanks!

You can try the Scoreboard Sports Bar that is located past the Casino on your way to the Aurora Theater on Deck 6.

They may show them and then they may not. There are no guarantees. It depends on signals. ESPN Sports is big on the ships.

Quick question.

Does the Radiance hold "surprise" events? I was just reading a review (forgot the ship) and he said there were a few surprise events held on sea days that you would only know about if you were at another event that advertised it or if you were in the MDR the night before and your waiter told you. They were not listed in the Compass.

(He included pictures of a very nice looking Market Buffet that he said "wasn't advertised for a reason" whatever that means )

I am a little put off by this. There are so many events. So many places to eat at for dinner (well, there will be by the time I get on) ... I really hate to think that I might be somewhere other than the place I need to be to get the information :(

I just assumed everything would be in the Compass ...

But anyway, I am not going to get upset over it now. For all I know, this was a false statement - or never happens on the Radiance anyway.

We are also in a D1 on deck 9, and I was told by the rep that these balconies are larger than the decks below.

Thanks to the posters who tried to help me find out the answers to my questions. RCCL would not provide any pricing info on adding a 3rd passenger to our D1 since they didn't do the booking. I called the travel company we booked through, they checked with RCCL and determined that the sailing has reached its max on "triples and quads". Apparently even if you are in a cabin that can accommodate another passenger, the ship may not be able to accommodate another passenger in your cabin. However, oddly enough I could purchase a D2 on the same deck for 2 passengers for current 1st and 2nd passenger pricing. Ultimately, we passed. I have to admit I don't really understand how this works. Can someone explain?

RCCL wants to fill every cabin, of course. they'd like to have 3 or 4 people in some cabins, but there is a limit to how many triple or quad they can book. that limit is based on safety so everybody will be safe it something happened. enough lifeboats and such. For flexibility, there are more beds than they can fill.

On your cruise they have have a few cabins that can be sold to parties of 1 or 2, but once those are filled, they are done. Adding a third to a cabin would be over the limit. Unless somebody cancels-then another slot may open up. So check back if you still want a third.

I agree. I gave the bartender an odd look when he told me that, as the current CL (granted small for a CL) still seemed to be too large for a JS. Family suite would make more sense, and location is right for one also.

Had asked before, but still not sure.....will the new Diamond lounge be enclosed, or just an open area of the Viking lounge opposite the CL side?

We've never been aware of any suprise or unannounced events on the Radiance, but maybe they were SO secret we never found them! However, there were several unannounced events on the Explorer in October, mainly in the Promenade area. Have no idea why they would do things this way!

Hi Everyone!

Do they have the D/D+ private breakfast area in the MDR on the 5 night cruises? Thanks!

What are the diamond events on the Radiance? I talked to Crown and Anchor and she didn't know of any. Surely they have some on the 5 day sailing from Tampa?

All--

That's a good question! We have our first 5 day cruise on Radiance coming up in May (San Diego to Vancouver just before the refit.) I assume that the events would be the same as on any cruise. You can find them in the C&A section of the website.

When we did the Mexican Riviera last year (10 night) the evening event was in the Hollywood Odyssey and breakfast was in Portofino. Diamond Plus had access to the Hollywood Odyssey or the Concierge Lounge.

All of this will change, of course, after the refit.

I'm sure Patti, who started this thread, will know more but I think she might be on a cruise right now.

Frank in sunny and warm SBA:cool:
