At that tends to surprise me as the last time that I was in London I remember commenting on how many young people seemed to be smoking around the city.

It's sad but you're right, there is an epidemic of smoking amongst British young folk. Goodness knows where they get the money from and, why they would think it cool to stink like an ashtray but........they can't smoke in any indoor public venues here. Hopefully the rising tax on tobacco products, scary anti-smoking advertising and the public building smoking ban will serve to reduce smoking for everyone's benefit.

I never realized that indoor smoking was banned in the UK but now that I think about it, that is why I can actually enjoy being in the London pubs in the evening.

By the way, you Brits and your country are awesome.

Another poster commented on how good it is not to stink of smoke after a night out, some places were so bad my eyes used to get bloodshot!

Appreciate your kind comments about Brits and Britain. Like most places we have some very beautiful places, and some very grotty ones. We also have some very lovely people, and some not so nice. Pleased you've found the good in us. The American and Canadian travellers on our Roll Call have been soooo helpful to us as first time cruisers, I'm really looking forward to meeting them. I haven't visited the USA but hopefully I will soon, you have some pretty cool things to see too.

What really gets to me is the inconsistencies I see across the RCI fleet  I know for a fact that there is NO smoking anywhere on the Royal Promenade on the Freedom of the Seas - why should it be any different on the Adventure? I am very close to sending a letter asking that very question - should I?

Why not, can't hurt. I'd be interested in seeing if the response is any more than a form letter about trying to please all the guests, etc.

I would encourage you to do that, if you are happy to, on behalf of all us non-smokers. You are clearly a good customer of theirs and have personal experience of the inconsistencies, it's a very genuine and legitimate concern. Thank you for grabbing this smoky bull by the horns :)

Just read on another thread that apparently smoking is allowed in the pub on the Royal Promenade  If this is in fact true, I will be very disappointed. They disallowed this several years ago and it was great not to have to walk through a plume of smoke on the Promenade. Good to hear that formal nights in the casino are still non-smoking.

I wish they would do away with smoking in cruise ships altogether....

Okay, that's my rant for the day. :D

Uggg ! I absolutely hate smoking. Once you walk through it you can't get rid of the smell from your hair or clothes. I too wish they would just ban smoking altogether.

You know the one thing Carnival has in this situation is that guy John Heald that has a FB page and a Blog and people go ask him stuff exactly like this . You can find out why they do one thing one ship and not on another and if enough people complain it seems to get things done. Maybe if enough people shoot e mails and ask why the inconsistency we can get an answer.

Me I do smoke cigars but then not a lot just when the mood strikes me LOL, But I do like the Royal Promenade so I can breath and the Duck and Dog is one of our favorite places to hang out .

So true Robyn, everything changes according to home dock. I wish RCI would do the same as Celebrity. No smoking in staterooms, on balconies, indoors OR the casino. Just designated outdoor areas!!!!!! Lots of casino smokers would go outdoors to the "muster" deck. It was perfect!!!!

Ria - I love the casino, but they see less and less of my money these days because I cannot stand the smoke. Now I usually go in only on formal nights when it is non-smoking.....I do hope that has not changed on the AOS!!!

A total ban on smoking would suit me just fine!:D

As of December, Formal nights was still smoke free on the adventure. But also as of December, the pub in the PR allowed smoking.

Thanks for the current info Patty. Guess I will have to stay on the other side of the Promenade....which may actually be okay since that is where the pizza is ;)

There are times when I will go out of my way to go up to the Promenade just to avoid walking through the casino. It may not be that long a walk through there but I can't just can't stand the smoke for even that short a time.

I know exactly what you mean... I'm happy to hear that formal nights are still smoke free - I will be taking full advantage of those opportunities :)

Robin, I have a question for you and for anyone going on a B2B. I have one in April.

Do you plan on getting off the ship on the turnaround day?

Has anyone been on a B2B and got off the ship on your own or with a shore excursion, how does that work? When do you go through customs? I want to get off the ship and walk around down town and explore a bit. Just wondering how that is done.

rcprncss, my husband and I just returned from an Adventure B2B and we did exactly that. The day before turnaround, we got our new SeaPasses and the "in transit" cards. On turnaround day, we left the ship around 10:00, skipped the customs line and showed the officer our transit cards, took a cab into Old San Juan and explored for a few hours. When we headed back to the ship, we went straight to the security checkpoint, showed our new SeaPasses, and came back aboard. Easy as pie! (I should add that we did not need to do anything besides show the customs officer the transit card - we did not actually go through customs/declare anything until the end of our B2B.)

They did announce at the info meeting that B2Bers who were not planning on leaving the ship were to meet in the Imperial Lounge at 11:30 AM on turnaround day. Since we did leave the ship, I'm not sure what those folks ended up doing.

It seems as if the rules have changed a bit on cruises out of SJ. On the previous itineraries, we never had to exit the ship on turnaround day - we just hung out wherever we wanted, or stayed in our cabin. Now it seems the B2B's have to disembark. I think the reason for this is St.Thomas used to be the last port before the end of the first cruise which meant we were already back in the U.S - now St.Thomas is the first port. I'm not sure, but that's my theory anyways  Either way, no big deal to get off the ship for a few minutes on turnaround day.

We have in fact disembarked and made our way into Old San Juan on at least one of our B2B's. There are plenty of cabs available, and we just got in one - we did not do anything through the cruiseline.

Seaside and Robin, thank you so much. It sounds so easy. I had a B2B last year on Freedom and we didn't want to get off the ship. It worked differently though. We didn't get new sea pass cards the night before. It sounds easy in PR. Thanks! :)

What did they charge you for you cab to Old San Juan and back? Where did you pick up the cab for your return trip back to the ship?

November we stayed on board, met in the imperial lounge then lunch in the dining room. Friends of ours went into town and found no problems leaving and reboarding. The new sea passes were delivered our cabin on the last night of the first week.
