We liked the MUTS in the evening, I was very surprised to see it going on during the day. I agree, there is already enough noise during the day if the pool is crowded on Caribbean itineraries.

I can understand though if there is a big sports event, that is a great place to show the games.

We just returned from the CB on 7/1 and also found MUTS to be somewhat annoying. It was very loud and added with the crowd noise it was overwhelming. We avoided the area during the day but did watch a movie on one night.

oh yeah..one more thing...get rid of reservations for anytime dining and only allow AD people in the dining room. There were way too many TD people who would go to AD because they didn't feel like eating at their assigned time. At least add some comfortable chairs in front of the AD room. Very unattractive to see people in tuxes and gowns sitting on the stairs waiting for a table.

This post just goes to show that it's impossible to please everyone.

I love MUTS. In the evening, it's such a magical experience watching a film on the big screen under the stars, I truly enjoy it. During the day, I tend to agree that it's just another distraction but we're not big pool users so it's never bothered me.

We also LOVE all the seafood that Princess serves. That's one of our favourite options, and I truly look forward to that treat each and every time we cruise.

Oh 8 Bells, I am with you on that!! Hello Princess....please upgrade your coffee to STARBUCKS!!!! That hot mud you are serving has NO flavor at all!

Boo to Starbuck's. If you want really good coffee Seattle's Best is much better, especially Henrys Blend. Absolutely great. Never bitter! Since I live in Seattle, goodness knows I have tried it all

Dear Princess,

I would love to see a few hooks in the closet area. I like to hang my robe and other items from an easily accessible hook near the door of the bathroom.

Other than that, I love what you do. I look forward to many more cruises in the future.

I agree that Seattles Best is good too, still prefer Starbucks, and yes, I too lived in Seattle for 30 years. They know coffee! You must have coffee on all those rainy overcast days! ;)

We always have a hook on the bathroom door inside.

Yes, there is always that double hook for robes on the inside of the bathroom door. We also take along those Command BIG hooks, the kind that stick to anything and can be removed without leaving residue or any type of damage to the wall. That way we can put them where we need them, for hats, nite clothes, etc. Just like home. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

If Princess is reading let me tell you that on my first cruise was on Dawn Princess Dec 07 to the Mexican Rivera and by far the most memorable thing was the group "Nova" at the Wheelhouse. I looked forward every night to go and listen to them, they were fantastic. I would love to go on that ship again just for the music, I wish they were in town, I would spend every night at the bar! ;)

Thanks for your support. I agree wholeheartedly with you - I just do not think Princess was unaware of the holiday - In Barcelona, Spain, this year some flights were not permitted on May 1 - this is a big day for the various countries.

I think that this type of information should be made available to the passengers before booking cruises with Princess.

Dotty

Hi - it's me again - Dotty - I just learned that right now when future passengers call in about cruises to the Mediterranean - and the Vatican - the agents from Princess now check the schedule and let the prospective passenger know before booking if a holiday will be in effect - and if the Vatican is open or closed on the day that the Princess ship is in port.

Thanks Princess Corp.

Dear Princess Cruiselines,

At least every two years we make a plan with 10 different couples, we have know forever. Every couple lives in a different state, we all come together on one of your ships for at least a 7 to 10 day cruise. They all book a mini or full suite. Out of 10 couples there are 7 smokers. They make a point of only smoking on their balcony. Not hurting anyone, they pay plenty for these cabins. They have remarked, they will quit cruising if policy's get any stricter.

I want to thank you for having something for everyone, I do not want to loose our get together on your ship. Two of the couples are non smoker's and say they have never smelled a smoke oder in their cabins and go sit on the balcony in their friends cabin, the smoker's. Their thoughts are....a whiff of smoke every now and then will not kill anyone but breathing in the smog every day where they live, might.

Because I'm paying the same price as you are and would like to smoke in the ambiance that I've purchased. Yeeshhh!

Actually, I think Princess does a good job of allowing for both preferences, smoking and nonsmoking.

When we entered the cabin, the sniff test provided no clue as to whether anyone had ever smoked there.

Smoking is allowed only in specific spots outdoors -- they're very limited and nonsmokers certainly do not have to go that way. Same with Indoor smoking.

Casino always has some nonsmoking nights. Even during smoking nights the air didn't have that lingering cloud.

No smoking allowed in ANY food area.

For me, perfumes are a big problem -- there are so many that cause my eyes to tear and nose to run. But of course, my discomfort in walking through a perfume cloud is simply not politically popular... *snicker*

Tee

p.s. Before I get lambasted, no, I would not opt for tromping on your rights to wear perfume.

Is Princess seeing the terrible comments about the food on the Golden Princess, particularly at the buffet? The recent member reviews are scathing in their criticism. We're going on the Golden to Alaska in a few weeks, and hope the situation improves.

Bad food on the Golden? Since when? We were on Golden last October just after the new menus were put in force and were very pleased!

The buffet? Well, if it looks like a duck, it's a duck. Most buffets are there to supply food fast. The food was plentiful, varied and nicely presented, which is all we ever expect of buffets. It was also available around the clock. Plenty of breads, fruits, salads, cheeses, entrees, desserts -- none of which were gourmet items. Just plain 'down home' kind of foods. One nice thing there, you do not pick up a plate and have to wait to go through. It's organized so that you can drift from table to table getting what you want. We generally take breakfast back to our balcony.

The dining room? Wonderful on all counts. We have special "wants" in our foods and were astounded at the choices that suited us. One night nothing on the menu appealed to me -- not that there wasn't plenty but I was in a picky mood. I did a 'patchwork' dinner of foods that were both side dishes and some foods not on the menu at all. No problem. How does it get better than that?

One thing I would recommend. It's not a complaint, just a preference. I asked for dining room menus at the end because the 'health conscious' portions of the menu were so impressive. I was given actual menu pages, full sized. They're great (just dragged them out again to get some info for someone who asked). But small reproductions would be nice for those of us who have rooms full of mementos. I would think that would also be more efficient and less costly for Princess.

Enjoy the Golden! She's a great ship with a terrific crew, and you will not only not go hungry, you will enjoy the process. :)

I"m not sure if we've mentioned this yet,

I would really like to carry over by Platinum Benefits to HAL. Wouldn't it be nice if you could travel on any of the Carnival Corp. lines and have the same benefits? and each cruise count towards higher levels no mater which one you sail on within the Carnival family?

We were most fortunate on our recent Pacific Princess (Holyland June 25) cruise to have a great port lecturer named Hutch from Sarasota Florida. Having suffered from poor or nonexistent uninformed lecturers on several recent cruises; (most recently on the Star Princess January 26 cruise) I feel that this is an important aspect of port intensive cruises.

When we started cruising in the Mediterranean (as opposed to the Caribbean and Alaska) in 2000 we were fortunate to have two University of Florida professors as onboard lecturers for several cruises. We have sailed with John Lawrence several times and he sometimes plays the dual role of CD and port lecturer and is also most informative. But we have also been on several cruises where the "stop and shop" variety of speakers have been the only sources of information. As far as I am concerned Princess can save dollars eliminating the stop and shop variety speakers and provide truly knowledgeable port lecturers as a service to passengers as a necessity not a luxury.

OK Princess if you are really reading this then explain why us Aussies have to pay so much more than others to cruise on your ships?
Not just the Aussies - also the Brits. You will find this is already mentioned earlier in this thread.

I haven't read this whole thread - it's long!, but very interesting. Just to add my 2 cents worth: I vote for fresh brewed coffee everywhere - I'm not fussy about whether it's Seattle's Best, Starbucks or Peets or whoever, just get a corporate partnership going and provide good coffee - surely it can't be that difficult!!!!

Secondly, for those asking for deeper discounts for past passengers I know this Spring Princess initiated a program of additional discounts for Captain Circle members as we got the benefit of it for our 2009 New England Cruise - much appreciated.

Finally - about the 1 litre liquor bottles - I imagine they went to the smaller bottles because some people couldn't finish it in a week and maybe complained?? Don't know, just a guess - but I heartily vote to have them back - even if they give two size options - fine and dandy - but at least give us the choice!!

On the whole, we love sailing Princess and have always been happy with our cruise - especially like the adult only pool. Keep up the good work!!

Ah but the vast majority of people like myself would like to enjoy clean, fresh air that we've paid for. Why should we have to pay more than you because we're forced to pay for dry-cleaning every time we've sat next to a smoker!

You have me stumped, why and where would you have to sit next to a smoker on the ship? Its not allowed in very many places and where it is allowed you sure have a choice of not sitting next to them.
