Divina - $40 Upgrade to Yahct Club??

Never sailed MSC before....got the Black card match and thought I'd give them a try.

Just received a call from MSC asking if we would like to upgrade to the Yacht Club for an extra $40 per person per day. So....$560 for a 7 day cruise. They said it was because it was my first time cruising with them and they wanted to "steal me" from Royal. I said "If you wanted to steal me you would give it to me for free" lol. They also stated the YC usually sells for $4500??? I only paid $1100 for my cabin with fees/taxes during the promo.

My research shows that the YC "Suite" is really no bigger than the cabin I have now (but has tub and walk-in closet) and the balcony would be smaller. I have Aft Balcony #10273 now.

Would like some opinions from my friends at CC............

THANKS!!

10th

Taking my mom. Wife has to stay home that week

We're on a b2b and thats the start of our second week. So if you take the offer, and I seriously would, we'll see you in the Topsail Lounge. This will be our 4th time on the Divina in the YC, we love it :):)

Firstly, the bs that MSC usually sells YC for 4,500 is a joke. I paid less than $1,000.00 per person for YC (all taxes included). Now, admittedly I got a great deal, but since then I've seen YC selling for around $1,200 per person fairly consistently and $1,400-$1,500 per person seems the average.

I've sailed both in the YC and in an aft balcony within the last 3 months so I have a relatively decent comparison for you.

1) The aft balcony blows away anything you will get in the YC. The room in the YC is the same size only slightly bigger bath/closet, but if you vision yourself spending hours looking at the wake, that balcony on deck 10 you have reserved is large enough to hold two lounge chairs and two chairs. Hard to give that up.

2) I did not care for the food my first round on MSC so I was looking forward to YC food which lots of people rave about. Sadly, Even with the YC LeMuse, I did not care for the food either trip. My personal belief is that MSC must cut corners somewhere to offer the prices they are offering, and I believe they cut corners in food quality and for me it is considerably noticeable. Others disagree, but my point is that I don't think the food in YC was much (if any) different than the food you would receive in the balcony so that isn't a factor. You will be able to eat 'my time' in LeMuse though, so if that matters, YC wins in terms of dining choices, but I do think food is about a tie.

3) Butler service is fine, but in reality they aren't much more than glorified room stewards. Without a doubt, pool side service was better poolside OUTSIDE of the YC for me. Unlike many, I found the service both inside and outside of the YC to be quite good. No complaints either way. Unless you are into the whole 'butler' image thing, I can't say that service was THAT much better in YC. I'd give that a tie too.

4) There are certainly some alcohol perks with YC. If you are a drinker and anticipate a large bill on alcohol, the $550 upgrade may be well worth it. YC does have excellent beverages all complimentary. When I did regular MSC I purchased 18 drink coupons for $84 (plus gratuity). That did me fine all week. However, I did drink more when I was in YC simply because it was available.

5) For me, the absolute best thing about the YC was not having to fight the crowds. At 31.43 sq feet, MSC has some of the worst passenger space ratio of the mainstream lines. In other words, the Divina is a crowded ship and Outside the YC, Divina is jam packed due to the fact that kids sail free and they are really packing people onboard. It was impossible to find loungers many times, and simply navigating some of the bottleneck areas was challenging. Crowds were noticeable. This isn't the case at all in YC and for me the best thing about the whole experience. Never crowded. Chairs were always were available. Note that all YC loungers are in full sun if that matters. I really LOVED the peace and quiet that the YC provided on a daily basis. That alone could be worth $50.

6) Of course, being escorted on and off the ship is a nice touch. And the YC concierges were terrific (learning our names, etc..). In YC you won't be forced into a set dining time if that matters and the mini fridge is also complimentary which ended up being very well used.

Overall, I think MSC provides an excellent value. There are things you may like more than RCL, and certain things you may like less. That is to be expected. My advice is to always keep cost in mind when making the comparisons.

MSC is asking you to pay 50% more for the YC. In all honesty, for me it would be a tough call. If I had a regular balcony outside of YC I'd do it in a millisecond, however to pay extra and have to give up that aft balcony would be difficult. I think this boils down to.... how much time to you vision yourself spending on the balcony?

Hope that helps,

I received the same thing yesterday and I called MSC. It's only a guarantee and there are a few inside rooms in the yacht club. I don't want to get stuck with that. Also, we like balconies and some of the rooms in Yacht Club have panoramic windows and no balcony. I think I would miss the balcony.

There are no inside Yacht Club staterooms on any of the Fantasia class ships unless you are speaking about Ocean View staterooms. Meraviglia class and Seaside class will introduce inside Yacht Club staterooms.

There are no inside Yacht Club cabins on the Divina. Only on the Meraviglia, Seaside and Seaview.

Ooops...looks like Mike answered at the same time.

There are no inside YC rooms on the Davina. There will be on the new ships though.

I've also sailed with MSC outside the YC area, and while I loved it, service was good, I liked the food. For me it wasn't a patch on the YC. I read your review Bermudabound, and liked it, I didn't agree with it all though. We've always had great service poolside on the YC, even, unlike your experience getting trays of ice cream being brought round.

We've had 2 fabulous butlers, but on or last trip our butler was so so, thems the breaks.Saying that I'd still book it for that price. Here in the UK and in Europe I think, prices for the YC are much more expensive, and that's without the transatlantic flights. Maybe thats why I'd bite there had off :)

Ok....

I returned the call and accepted the YC upgrade with the condition that the guarantee be a "balcony guarantee". I also spoke to his supervisor and she also said I would receive a balcony. A smaller balcony.....lol

I will miss my wake view....

THANKS!!

Good choice to except that deal. I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed.

My favorite are the views from Top Sail, the crowd escape back to the YC and ultimately not haveing to worry about my spending on alcohol- all is included, even the mini bar. For me I won't go any other way now. Trip #3 for me in November.

Lets get some numbers correct, the room sizes are :-

A YC1 is 280 sq. ft. ( there are some square shaped ones which have a bigger square footage) They have a 61 sq. ft. balcony

An aft balcony on deck 10 has a 192 sq ft. room with a 118 sq. ft. balcony.

Some other facts that are not quite correct

There are no oceanview cabins in the Yacht Club, so no worries there

There are no YC 1 cabins with panoramic glass windows, the panoramic glass windows are only in the three YC2 cabins on deck 12.

Are you kidding about questioning this? Once you go YC, it will be almost impossible to go back. How much time do you really spend on the balcony? The service is top notch, the pool area has some shade. The drinks are free in the YC. Enjoy your cruise.

Hi, does anybody knows if the laundry services like ironing are complementary for YC guests?

Thanks!

No it's not free, but they do have offer which are reasonably priced. It's about $50 for 40 items. They also do smaller packages, but I can't remember how much they cost.

The other pricing is 20 pieces for $25. So you can do 1/2. For some reason I thought you got a better deal for more. Just set out what you want to be cleaned in the bag supplied or just set a pile on your bed or sofa- tell your butler, he collects your laundry and will return it the next day. You can request hangers or folded and he will ask if you want him/her to put away in your closet.

I read somewhere on the forum that they are considering complimentary laundry on 10+ night cruises for YC passengers. That would be great!
