celebrity - docking in San Juan

I know my question is about San Juan - but it's specifically about Celebrity, which is why I posted it here.

I was doing research on our ports, and came across this -

FAQ

What pier will my cruise ship dock at or embark from in San Juan?

In general, arriving transit ships that are day-docking for one afternoon/ evening in San Juan usually dock at the Old San Juan Piers (Muelle 1, 3, 4, 6), so you can walk right out into Old San Juan and avoid taking a taxi. We believe an exception to this rule to be Celebrity Cruises which typically day-dock at the Pan American Pier.

Has anyone been to San Juan recently with Celebrity - and did you dock at Pan American?

We are the only ship in port that day (with the exception of those coming and going from their home port).

I'll be a little disappointed - was hoping to just get off and walk around instead of having to get and pay for a taxi there and back.

Anyone know why they do this?

Thx

What ship are you on? Last year on Reflection when we were just there for the day we were in old San Juan. For Summit we have always been at Pan Am (but Summit starts and stops in San Juan). I did read somewhere that old San Juan is under construction maybe but I'm not sure.

Yes we are on Reflection as well.

I don't think it is construction related - the article said Celebrity uses Pan AM instead. All other ships at Old San Juan unless there are too many.

Hmmm....

Summit, which sails from San Juan, docks at the Pan American pier, while other Celebrity ships, just making a stop in San Juan, dock at the pier in Old San Juan, where it is easy to get off & walk around town without having to take a taxi. There is also a free bus/trolley that make a circuit around OSJ, & you can get off at various points of interest. Enjoy San Juan!

You don't cite the source of your information, but it is incorrect. Not everything on the internet is true and correct.

If the ship is beginning its sailing in San Juan, it will be at the Pan Am pier. If San Juan is a port call, the ship will dock in old San Juan.

I did the best I could to find the information I was looking for.

I googled it, and then looked for what I believed to be the most reputable or official site I could locate.

I found that information under FAQ's on the sanjuanpuertorico.com site.

Cruises that start in San Juan (home departure port) usually leave from the Pan American Pier Terminals I or II.

I then came and posted on here to see if any here had any further information or experience, which some did. I am now hopeful that we might dock in Old San Juan as others said they did, despite the information I read.

I am well aware that 'not everything I read on the internet is true', but I did my best to find the most accurate and legitimate information I could.

I am sorry it wasn't good enough for you and you felt the need to try to make me feel stupid.

You succeeded.

I have been to San Juan many times on cruises and the Celebrity ships departing from Miami and FLL dock at Old San Juan. Just walk off the ship and there is a CVS and many eateries/bars within easy walking distance. If you want a relaxing walk and are in reasonably good shape, visit one of the two forts. Well worth the trip. Bring your U.S. National Parks Pass and you get in free. If you are tired, there is a free trolley that will take you back towards the pier.

All ships owned by Royal Caribbean (Celebrity, RCI) that start in San Juan (currently the Celebrity Summit, Adventure of the Seas, and Jewel of the Seas), Start and end at the Pan American Pier.

All of their ships that make a day stop at San Juan stop at the piers in Old San Juan.

If you walk to the end of the pier and make a right, cross the street and go about 2 blocks you will find the trolley stop. This is a free trolley that travels around OSJ, stopping at the piers, shops, etc. Here is a link to information about the trolley

enjoy your trip on Reflection... She's a great ship !!

Just an FYI for those doing San Juan on your own. Most of the time, the ship won't get there until 330 or even later. There isn't a lot of time left to do forts. You can, but try to get off ship in first wave and don't waste much time getting to them.

And it will get dark fairly quickly.

There has always been confusion about which pier will be used. I can say with 100% certainty that ALL X ships making a "day stop" in San Juan will dock at osj pier across from the Sheraton hotel. We seem to always end up stopping at CVS store before getting back on ship.

Celebrity cruises that originate in San Juan (such as the Summit during this winter season) use the Pan American Pier across the bay from Old San Juan. Celebrity cruises that just stop for the day, dock in Old San Juan. Passengers can disembark and easily walk around old San Juan during the stop.

Nobody is trying to make you feel stupid. We're just trying to give you correct information as opposed to the information you got. Sorry, but the information on that site is incorrect.

We are just off the Silhouette and our first port after leaving Fort Lauderdale was San Juan. We docked at the pier in Old San Juan. Interesting to note that the casino in the Sheraton hotel right across from the pier is now closed. I remember docking there in the past and many cruisers would run across the street into that casino because the one on the ship was closed while in port.
