  1. So, the there is a cabin between 6001 and the bridge, is that true for all the VO ships because some people make it sound like 6001 is 'right' behind/beside the bridge. I've been wondering about this exact topic because 6001 is available on a cruise I'm looking at.
  2. One thing, with air travel to about anywhere, running full, I sort of expect that Viking air will become even more limited. If the planes are running over capacity it's going to be hard for Viking to get any pricing breaks, which will make it hard for Viking to even offer 'air'. There just won't be any upside, for VIking (to make money) or the airlines (to make more money) in the 'air' sales/cost category.
  3. Didn't read all the comments but Saturn Aug 30th start made it to both Greenland stops. Crew said only this cruise and the cruise before made it all season.
  4. It depends on your cabin, some have more than three.
  5. I'm going on a VO cruise in 10 days. I did a Viking Exp ship cruise in the Great Lakes a year ago, it was great. It was more like being on a large yacht than a cruise ship. Nice public space everywhere and no crowds anywhere. The only downside is cost and less entertainment. Maybe I should add, my X cruise this winter was after the changes started and at this point it will probably be a while before I do that again.
  6. You save 3% by paying via a direct method.
  7. The internet 'quality' will vary somewhat based on the latitude of the cruise you are on. In the north/south there is less starlink coverage. https://satellitemap.space/
  8. I haven't read all the replies but a consideration is how port intensive the cruise is and how long you are on shore. If you hangout in the town port's bars for a while that's less drinks on the ship.
  9. They fixed the Saturn also several days ago. Interesting how they fixed them at the same time.
  10. I don't get why someone would have to get to the camera unless something knocked if over. I would hope the mount would be stronger than that. It should be, connect software to camera, rotate image, save setting. done.
  11. I was on at the end of last summer and if conditions are the same as they were then, it's just a toss up. Several days the subs were cancelled because of weather, I guess wind?. The people that did get on one day said they really couldn't see anything. Really, I think it's one of those things where you pick a time and hopefully, it happens and you have good visibility.
  12. I can tell you the towns aren't really anything special, so that means take your pick on the scenic stuff.
  13. For sure: that's how they decide what to try to sell to you. I hope everyone knows who owns cruisecritic.
  14. Interesting, I'm in the camp where we are doing the cruise this summer and will go back and drive, if we want more.
  15. OP: There a lot of youtube videos on the ring road if you want to get a preview. I've thought finding lodging might be a problem along the road but from the replies here I guess it is not.
  16. I'm starting to research Japan cruises and I'm wondering if Viking has changed it's sailings that include Japan much over the years. It's looking very sold for next year so I'm looking forward and wondering if what I'm looking at might be very similar to future years. (I know things can always change but anyway.)
  17. On the cruise credit left topic: I couldn't believe how many people that were on Viking Octantis (Great Lakes) at the end of last summer, were doing it on covid cruise cancel credits. I have no idea how much cruise credit is left in the system but I'm sure there is some. On Celebrity ships, their biggish issue is getting crew on board and up to speed. On the financial side, all the lines took on a ton of debt and that will take years to work thru the system, even assuming full ships.
  18. One thing, (I might have missed it) that I haven't seen mentioned is tendering, a lot of tendering with the 'regular' cruise ships. One advantage to small ships is that they can get to places the large/r cruise ships can't. That's sort of why you see a lot of the large ships going to the same places, and not much variety.
  19. Sounds like the cabins they added where 1/2 of the Tunscan Grill was.
  20. I can see X doing a sale like this, May is real hit or miss for Alaska, lol! (and most cruisers know that)
  21. I sort of wonder if all this is to make up for less sales on the 'art' now that most people figured that one out.
  22. Ya, the Viking new/newer expedition ships have IV, they have another name for them. That's been my only experience with IV. I didn't think I would like it but it was ok for the great lakes. The problem is if you are in an area with bugs, that's a problem. They have also had a few issues with bats.
  23. I think it's safe to say that X wouldn't be doing it if they lost money doing it. It was sure popular on my last cruise. I had never heard about it before and only saw it when passing thru from the theater.
  24. Panama canal cruise, that surprises me that there are that many elites on there. Maybe people are using it to go back to their CA homes after the winter in FL?
  25. I did some rooms request on the Talkeetna Lodge's website (future dates) and it sure looks like there are rooms available but the price, wow, the rooms aren't that nice for that kind of money. I guess X must not have had the rooms under contract and when they tried they got some pricing they didn't expect.
