  1. Based on what I have read on CC, I have a 6pm reservation each night for the Savoy. We leave in 2 weeks. Medallions on the way.
  2. LOL. Clearly not someone who has served in the military.
  3. You must not have children. I drink far less now that they’re grown up and moved out.
  4. How was the motion in that cabin? I am not bothered by rocking or up and down but my wife is prone to seasickness.
  5. Actually, looking at my Princess emails, the term they used was “premium” ocean view. I wasn’t quite sure which cabins qualified but wanted to exclude the forward facing ones. I’ve never been in one, but have read a couple reviews where the stewards did lock and unlock. A balcony for $15 seemed pretty cheap even if it was only in port. But my wife would not have been happy with that location. Likewise, I was invited to bid on a “premium” balcony. Again, I wasn’t sure which those were, but really just wanted a cabin with a balcony that we could access while underway.
  6. The minimum for an upgrade on our sailing from ocean view to deluxe ocean view was $15. They are forward facing cabins with a balcony that is only accessible in port. I understand the steward will lock and unlock the doors accordingly. But I also understood the ride up there can get quite bumpy. The other two upgrades we were offered carried minimum bids around $300-350. PP per cruise.
  7. We are on the 9/6 sailing of Sapphire Princess from Vancouver to Anchorage. This is the sailing with Jeff Corwin aboard. I grabbed a guarantee ocean view cabin to secure a spot - my wife insists on a window. But a friend told us “you must have a balcony for Alaska” so I bid the minimum to upgrade. We had three choices, including a deluxe ocean view all the way forward which I did not want. I did not hear a peep from Princess and it was getting closer by the day. So, I bumped my bid up to $450 and heard within 24 hours. Not the best balcony ever, but smack dab midship (port side unfortunately) on the Aloha deck. We will take it and be pleased.
  8. Depending on your neighbors, that could happen anywhere on the ship. But I don’t suppose it’s a risk I would take either.
  9. I don’t think Joey stops at 15.
  10. I think they are just trying to stagger arrivals at the host/hostess station. Easier than trying to seat 200 tables at once.
  11. Yes. The elite section is easily identified. Those seats have an amenity kit, blanket, bottle of water and better cushion.
  12. Looks like it’s more battery than anything else. It seems like the battery life would be extended if there was a way to turn the medallion on and off. But no doubt that would present a bigger problem for many.
  13. Can you explain what an interline discount is.
  14. That would make sense. But maybe that’s too much work and they base it on the size of the ship.
  15. Don’t let a single review discourage you. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but I don’t think roaches were mentioned in more than one review. And that was some time ago. Shame on Princess if that hasn’t been addressed by now. More recent cruisers have experienced no a/c, plumbing, insect, electrical or engine problems. Sometimes issues are system. Sometimes they’re one-offs.
  16. We were on a full ship and there were still uncrowded places. It depends on the time of day and scheduled activities. I did find the pools quite busy, especially on sea days. I’ve never been on a ship that had adequate pool space if everyone wanted to use them at the same time. The quietest inside place on the ship with nice views was Skywalkers nightclub. Dinner lines were nothing intimidating if you went early or late.
  17. I tried a filet and prime rib and thought they were both good. My wife ordered a strip loin and found it tough. It’s such a small sample, I cannot extrapolate to every serving of beef on an entire cruise line.
  18. Unless you can prove it does not have surge protection, it may be confiscated. Even if you can, it may be confiscated. I printed the Amazon description page from my purchase and taped it to the box. So far, it’s made it on board.
  19. I saved while I was working, especially after the last kid moved out. We retired 4 years ago and live on our annual income from pensions and social security. We don’t have any debt or much in the way of bills. We meet with our financial advisor every year to make sure our goals haven’t changed and to see if we want to lower risk or increase returns. This year, he told us that our money would continue to grow and if we had no other plans, we would be leaving quite a bit to our children. In essence, he was telling us we could afford to spend much more than we do. We already travel when we can and neither of us needs or wants anything. So, my wife emptied her closet, donated it all to a thrift store, and announced she was going shopping!
