  1. Depending on how far someone falls, they are more than likely knocked unconscious or break their neck on impact. People falling off ships don't normally hit the water at a good angle. Sea creatures are the least of their problems. My DH having spent time on US Navy ships as an Officer says the fact they ever find anyone is amazing. The amount of time it takes to stop and turn around as well as most people aren't seen when they go over so no way to mark where they fell. Just so many variables and not a good way to go. The ones who choose to go this way are the ones I don't get as there is always the chance that they are conscious in the water.
  2. Ordering everyone to their cabins means they can systematically check and not miss anyone while verifying identity. Too easy to miss someone if people are out and about.
  3. No, we booked the cruise over a year ago and decided to go annual policy in Dec. As I said, those requirements are very difficult to meet with anyone who travels regularly. What exactly is a pre-existing condition for old age?
  4. Those are tough requirements to fulfill as we cruise several times a year (book at least a year ahead of time usually) and are now buying an annual policy. My dad hasn't been diagnosed with anything except he is fading. He went into hospice care a couple of months after we bought the policy.
  5. My dad has been fading for two years. For the last 6 months they've been saying it could be no more than a couple of weeks. My sister and her family have a trip to Ireland (grown kids and spouses) next week. My other sister is going to a wedding out of town that weekend so DH and I are going back down again to stay with them. My mom told my sister yesterday to go ahead and go on her trip as burial will take a couple of weeks as he'll be going to another state for that and my dad would want them to go. We have a 20 night cruise coming up next month. For some reason, I don't think she'd say the same to us because my family thinks we cruise too much. I made sure she knew we're going to 4 new ports for us and this is a very different cruise than what we usually do. Anyway, we have Allianz and bought more than just the basic plan for this year so we do need to double check but I'm pretty sure the pre-existing only applies to the actual insured. The only pre-existing condition my dad really has is he's almost 86. As for the issue of telling or waiting, for me it doesn't really matter. The deceased won't really care so it's whatever you're comfortable with. Plenty of services/burials take place weeks or even months later for a variety of reasons.
  6. I love Google and I'm always finding things for people. On FB in particular people seem to be unable to google and most of them are way younger than me (I'm 63). I've found many people and addresses very easily. Some of the questions asked on FB groups are so very easy to find the answer to. I don't know if it's laziness or some are just used to everyone doing things for them, but honestly, most of the time the answer they're looking for it the very first hit, so not really a lot of searching. That said, finding someone from a cruise can be difficult but with the info OP has, it's probably going to be a little easier with all the names provided. They can take the last name and search FB, IG and see if the pics match.
  7. We did it on Harmony. I know a lot of people love it, but for us it was just okay. Our local small privately owned hibachi restaurant is magnitudes better. I didn't like the flavors very much and to us it wasn't as good as any land based one. It reminded me of Benihana's which we do not like at all.
  8. Delicate cycles generally have very low spin levels so you end up with a very soggy blanket.
  9. We've had them on every b2b we've done. When I said they set up turnaround day I meant that also. I have seen posts by people who ask how to search for b2b cruises as in they think Royal puts them together as a set which they do not.
  10. No. B2b cruises are simply two separate cruises. While Royal does set up the turnaround day to accommodate everyone, they do not do anything else. We book b2b in the same cabin by booking far enough out. Our TA can search for them easier than we can (so can the Next Cruise people onboard) so we do it that way.
  11. Not a problem. Those are "starting" salaries as in right out of high school in some situations. My 37 year old son makes a lot more than that and will go over 200K in probably the next year. He also said everyone he's hired in the last year are being paid over 125K and most over 150K. The clearances don't take much of your time, but they do take someone responsible and honest in order to get them. Anyone who is any good starting at those salaries quickly get bigger raises and promotions. In IT, you don't have to have a degree (most don't) and a lot make more than those who do in other positions. As for twice a day cabin cleaning, people have to decide for themselves, so, anyone who doesn't like it can take their money elsewhere. Just like people are free to take whatever job they want.
  12. There are very legitimate reasons for those rules and if you ever worked in that environment, you would know it. They've allowed CD players (just players) for years as I had one in my job in a SCIF since about 2000. And, I know for a fact because for about 10 years I was a personnel security officer. Sorry your DH had such a joyless job. DH has had jobs he didn't enjoy as much as others, but the purpose was important. Most jobs until the advent of cell phones, etc didn't have entertainment for the employees. Are you telling me someone can't do their job without being entertained? I've enjoyed all my jobs because it was about my co-workers and teamwork. My sons also enjoy their co-workers and my DH's officemate has become a good friend. We all have/had unclassified computer access on our desks with the ability to listen to music, etc. And, before you say, my agency must have been different. Nope, my DH has worked for a couple and I know plenty of people who work at other agencies. They all allow anything that doesn't record, photograph or plug into a computer. So, no cell phones, cameras, or anything that has a USB connection. So, no fitbit, apple watches or anything like that. But, guess what? People were still happy. No, money isn't everything but it is the thing people whine about the most. Having a great workplace (which I did in several different positions) can come with good money. The two are not mutually exclusive. As for passive aggressive, just reacting to the ignorance. And, before you get bent out of shape, please look up the real definition of the word.
  13. We usually book lunch in the specialty restaurant that is open for lunch on boarding day. We're on Jewel in Oct-Nov and they are only open for lunch on two sea days, not boarding day which sucks. I hate dealing with the WJ on boarding day and on Jewel, that's pretty much the only option. I've been checking for a while in case it opens, but it hasn't. We'll probably check as soon as we board to see if they are actually closed for lunch. We're booked in Mason Jar on boarding day on Wonder in Jan. I grabbed that as soon as I could. We're also on a b2b on Wonder and booked MJ for the second leg for dinner. Not sure why Jewel doesn't have Chops or Giovanni's open, but we'll live.
  14. Did you read the entire article/blog?
  15. I posted a link from there a couple of days ago about the new meteorologist and it was approved.
  16. This is why you should get your jewelry inspected. I have a loop and check mine a few times a year. Also, my ring was bought at a jewelry store that does free inspections every 6 months and if a stone falls out, they will cover it then under the warranty. If it hasn't been inspected within 6 months of loss they won't cover it. Anyway, that wouldn't stop me from wearing mine as that could happen anywhere.
  17. For anyone who said they were getting rid of the position... https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2023/08/19/royal-caribbean-cruise-weatherman
  18. LOL. A question on a survey is never "just" a question on a survey. There was something behind it. I guarantee they have a marketing firm that they're using to feel out how far they can go.
  19. Getting attacked because I made a comment about what my son has encountered in trying to hire people this last year is interesting. Actually, the most conscientioius workers he has hired have all been older than him. He's 37 and at least 3 of the 10 or so people he's hired recently are over 45 and one is over 60. RedIguana was making assumptions based on his own life I would assume. Too bad.
  20. You have no idea what you are talking about. So, $40/hour and up for experienced IT people (I'm talking a couple of years of experience) and help desk which requires basically no experience (pays at least $25/hour) is "poor conditions" LOL. My son is very popular with both his employers and the people he supervises as he is not only their supervisor but also their co-worker. It's amazing what people pull out of posts. They only see what they want to see. There is a whole generation of people where some think they are owed work from home, work less than full time, get multiple weeks of vacation and pats on the head for just existing. There are also plenty who are the exact opposite, Thank God.
  21. She, but yes I did say "SOME". Reading comprehension for some is difficult as you can see. As I also stated, my DS is hiring for IT positions where pay for someone with experience who can also obtain a security clearance is very good. Normally in the $40 and up per hour rate. We're not talking minimum wage jobs here. Full benefits and 401K matched contributions.
  22. I retired during Covid but it was entirely coincidental. I put in my request in July 2019 for March 2020 and it was approved in early Aug 2019. My last day of work was 27 Mar 2020. No one else I worked with retired during it or right after that hadn't already planned to. Several people had already planned to retire in 2020 and 2021 and did but Covid had nothing to do with it. What I've seen is whining about having to actually go into work. My DH and our two DS and one DDIL kept right on working for a couple of different reasons. DDIL is an RN. DH and both DS work in the Intel community which requires connectivity you cannot do at home. What my DS who is an IT manager and interviews and hires his own staff found is that first, younger people want to bring their phones with them everywhere they go which they can't in those jobs and second, they want to sit at home and work. These are very, very good paying positions with futures but they cannot be done in your pajamas from your house. They're willing to either not work or make much less if they can't bring their phones in. It's ridiculous. They have phones and computers on their desks and can check email but can't upload anything and some just can't handle it. Very poor work ethic in some.
