  1. I'd be willing to bet, most of the NYer's never sightsee in NY. I know my DH's family lived in the Bronx and went years without going into the city. It's like us, we live in the DC metro area and haven't been downtown in years. There are still things we haven't seen in NY and besides going a lot when DH and I were dating to visit his relatives, we've also gone many times to see shows. There are many good restaurants and the city is pretty at night. There are museums, tours, etc and the weather will be good. Just so many options.
  2. My DH wanted to book this cruise but I told him, "September in the Atlantic"? No, high chance of a hurricane and guess what? So, we booked on Jewel Oct 20 and Oct 30 b2b 10 night NE/Canada northbound and 10 night southbound instead. Watching the current weather and Carnival Legend this week I'm glad we did. Greenland was very enticing, but...
  3. They've never worked on any ship we've been on since I think about 2010. I remember the first few years we cruised (Carnival, Princess and Royal) they did work. I also remember reading that they had been disabled because too many complained about announcements in their cabins. As in, they couldn't figure out how to turn them down lol. All those stupid bingo and art auction announcements.
  4. The volume controls in the cabins were deactivated years ago. The only announcements that are piped into the cabins are really important ones-emergency, missing kids/teenagers very occasionally and changes to ports sometimes particularly the day of. Many times when we're in our cabin, we rush to the door and hold it open in order to hear them. Also, don't expect to hear them well in public spaces. Too many people think what they are saying to each other is way more important than what the Captain or CD have to say. They will then complain they didn't know about a port change or the weather/waves because "no one told them".
  5. They generally ask for people who have donated previously. Some people carry cards with their info that have been issued to them.
  6. Oh come on. Like they're going to just evacuate without telling anyone. I've never seen them lower them while underway. Too easy to damage it while moving. You couldn't have been going very fast,
  7. Well, in that situation, no one could say they didn't hear it because they were in their cabin. He was trying to avoid that.
  8. Okay, but as I said, I've never heard of it before. Never said it doesn't happen. We do not cruise out of Galveston but have been to Cozumel about 10 times.
  9. Anytime you're up on the top decks outside, you will encounter this. The horn is for other ships to hear so it has to be loud. It can happen anytime due to ship traffic, entering/leaving port,or poor weather.
  10. We've stayed overnight in Nassau a couple of times and one time in Port Canaveral (ship repair). I've never heard of Cozumel being an overnight before.
  11. They might not announce before boarding. Lee is forecast to stay off the coast until it hits Canada late next week. Bermuda and NE/Canada cruises could be impacted. So, it depends on timing and location.

  13. You are not helping your argument.
  14. The only one being "hysterical" and emotional is you. Others are just posting information.
  15. Okay, whatever. And, we know the unsafe areas in DC as we grew up here. Jamaica as a whole has major crime issues, but you believe what you want. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but giving info to everyone. You seem to feel like you need to convince everyone of your opinion.
  16. Starlink has worked great for us. No interruptions and smooth streaming.
  17. And, the State Dept? I've heard multiple stories over the years about Jamaica. BTW, this is not the only youtube video discussing the topic.
  18. Be very careful in Jamaica when booking your own excursions. Here's a recent video by veteran cruisers. We only left the port area one time on an excursion (out of several visits) and won't do it again.
  19. Didn't see this answered. Radiance class JS, bed is by the bathroom.
  20. "Quality of care" for someone who does something they shouldn't. The only way to prevent what he did would be to enclose everything. The expectations are a bit crazy. Personal responsibility seems to be something that many can't understand. In this case, falling by doing something dangerous could have only been prevented by not having any open space outside. Let's just fence in the entire ship for all those that can't follow directions. Nothing the Captain or the cruise line did caused this. I feel for his family, but he made a stupid choice in some way.
  21. While the Captain has ultimate responsibility for the ship and the people, he doesn't have responsibility for this situation. Yes, he has responsibility for the safety of everyone onboard, but that doesn't apply to someone doing something they shouldn't be. If someone jumps, climbs on a railing or gets pushed, none of that is the Captain's responsibility.
  22. There's a story in People magazine online where his family is pushing for the search to continue. They really think he can be found. That just doesn't happen and at this point, the cost far outweighs any benefit.
  23. X typically includes drink pkg, grats and internet, but that is changing some. X also costs more than Royal. We were on Summit a few years ago and had all three included (classic drink pkg, not their top one). We had another cruise booked on Summit last year but cancelled to go on Royal with friends instead and it included all three also. It's just part of their marketing.
  24. I don't think you read what you think you read. I know it takes a ship a long time which is why I said "THE AMOUNT OF TIME". My DH is a retired US Navy Captain and we've talked about this (every time it's reported).
