  1. Most lawsuits are settled out of court not necessarily with a "winner". Just because one party settles money on the other does not mean they are accepting any blame. They're basically just making them go away.
  2. People who haven't been cruising for a long time don't realize how little the cost of cruising has gone up over the years compared to other things. To keep prices more affordable, they've cut other ways. Just ask anyone on here who cruised 30 years ago how much it cost to go on what is now considered a very small ship with a lot less amenities (no slides, one pool, less entertainment). Of course, cruising used to be an elegant vacation where people dressed up, enjoyed a show, ate multiple course meals and was less about being constantly active. Cabins were also very different.
  3. The angle of the window (top and bottom) along with the height of the railing would make it virtually impossible for anyone to "fall" out. The design is actually the way it is to prevent it. I don't know of any other case where anyone has gone out of a window on the pool deck. The cases I've seen are people who go over go from the railing on a balcony or from an upper deck with a railing. I'm sure though that if this goes to a jury trial, the defense will do their best to only get jurors who have never been on a cruise ship.
  4. The video also shows that the step grandfather stuck his head out the window before lifting the girl out so that argument doesn't hold any water. But, color blindness doesn't apply to window tint. Color blind people can see variations in darkness and light. They just can't differentiate between colors themselves (worst case).
  5. Oh I know. The McDonald's coffee case was actually different than what most people think it was. It was more than just hot coffee served to someone. It was so hot it caused permanent burns that never would have happened had it been served at a proper temp. We met a lawyer on a cruise that knew the lawyers involved and a lot of the case. He'd read the entire thing. He told us all the things that the media never reported. That said, this case is a little different. The step grandfather did what he did entirely of his own volition. There were no extenuating circumstances except those caused by him. As I said, I (and others here) have been on Freedom and know exactly where this happened and how it couldn't have happened without the step grandfather doing what he did.
  6. It's become the stupid need to be warned about everything. Like the tag on a hair dryer saying not to use it in the tub. As we've seen, they used to have small booklets for autos with basic info such as what fuses, battery, tire inflation and how often to do maintenance. Now, they also tell you not to drink the coolant. The fact that grown adults need to be told not to do something stupid is insane. As someone who has been on Freedom and seen the video, they have zero case. As far as I'm concerned the step grandfather should have received jail time. To me, what he did is no different than something like running a stop sign and hitting someone and killing them. Grown a** adults should not need to be warned with a sign to not dangle a child out a window.
  7. They should not settle and I also doubt they want to. I want them to make an example of this event. It's already too easy to sue over really stupid things but this goes beyond to entirely only one person's fault.
  8. They're hoping Royal will settle, like most large corporations do to avoid having to fight in court with the expenses and time involved. I'm hoping Royal stands their ground. The lawyers are hoping to get a judge or jury (not sure which applies in this case) that will act sympathetically to the family against the "big bad corporation".
  9. Um, what about the fact that Royal resets the clock at like 4 am now? This was discussed ad nauseum.
  10. Well, the market has improved a bit in the last couple of months so all our stocks are doing well. Outside of the funds we're invested in, we have individual stocks in several companies-Alphabet (Google), Amazon,Pfizer, John Deere, GE, GE Healthcare, RCL, and a few others. We are in the current position (I'm retired and DH is retiring this Dec) that we are pulling profits and moving them into more stable cash and CD's. Anyway, point is, RCL was never a stock we would have normally bought. It can and has been pretty volatile. I can't think of another stock that we own that took such a big hit, although we knew it would recover.
  11. Except if you watch the video, it appears he didn't prop her or sit her. He literally lifted her up and over the railing and out the window. She didn't fall off any edge, she was dropped.
  12. We bought our shares solely for the OBC. We only follow what it's doing out of curiosity. We're meeting with our CFP in about 30 min and he sees the stock the same way we do. We have other stocks in our IRA's that have been much more profitable.
  13. This is nuts. Exactly what liability can they possibly assign to Royal? We all know who is at fault and it's not Royal. The family ought to be suing the step-grandfather if anyone at all.
  14. New? How about 2+ years old and talked about a lot on here.
  15. They are only doing once per day unless you are in a JS or higher. This is new policy that was announced a couple of months ago, not the steward's decision. So, for you, with holding any extra tip is a punishment? It doesn't hurt the company if you with hold extra tips. Have you read the entire thread?
  16. Rreread what you posted. It does not read as a new passport. We can only respond to what we read.
  17. Well, you don't send a bc with a renewal, just the old/expiring passport. So, that might be their problem.
  18. We're talking about changing out towels and emptying trash here, not something life or death. No one "has" to understand how someone else feels about it lol. Does it really affect your life if someone on the internet understands how you feel about room cleaning?
  19. A few of us have mentioned personal responsibility lol.
  20. Site was really slow actually trying to get to cruise planner for me yesterday for about 10 minutes, then it came back up. Just one of those regular glitches.
  21. It is amazing. We peak in when we walk by and some cabins have stuff everywhere. We've seen open suitcases on the sofa being lived out of, clothes and other items all over the floor and counters. We're neat. Everything has a home. The only things on the counter tends to be power cords. Even our laptops go back in their bags when we aren't actually using them. All clothes are hung up or in drawers, shoes in the closet and suitcases are under the bed or next to the wall behind a chair (JS). I toss papers every day unless it's something we really need like an invite to an event.
  22. I don't know of any airline that pays commissions anymore. Most hotels don't either. Our TA's are our friends and they also would do other travel free of charge if we needed it. We book our own travel (usually amtrak) and hotels. TA's usually charge a flat fee if there is no commission. And, believe me, they don't make a ton of money. Our friends wanted me to come work for them as I'm very organized and pay attention to details, but I would have had to take a 60% paycut to do so.
  23. You are paying their commission because when you use a TA, that's one less cruise a Royal employee has to do. If no one used TA's Royal would have to employ more people to handle the load, so, when you book a cruise, you are paying either a Royal consultant or a TA in your fare.
