Were you flights non-changeable? If so, did you include a statement from Westjet? If they were changeable, I think Carnival might only reimburse documented change fees. Maybe.
One reason they complain is because they think they earned perks (they didn't) vs Carnival "selling" them. But really, FTTF subsidizes some P/D perks.
I am still amused by some insisting on standing in the priority line because they can, when the regular line is non-existent.
And now for some facts
Walmart has no policy against not wearing a shirt while shopping. However, there may be store-specific policies as well as municipalities below state laws that require shirts in public.
Unlike FTTF, there is no need for cabanas to sell out before the cruise and discounting them on the cruise is always an option. Carnival is smart to push the price up before to try to maximize return.
Theories:
Gamblers aren't going to pay more for early access than they do for their cabin.
Holiday cruise - everyone is Platinum/Diamond
Jacksonville is the model of efficiency at embarkation
Cruisers are saving their money for the new Lido steak offerings
there are probably more.
80% of the US population lives in cities. I don't consider the cities on your list to be large, nor for the list to be current. Cities like New York and Los Angeles are large.
I'm really surprised by the price this went for - I thought it would be worth more.

Carnival is never going to try to compete with other cruise lines on perks/bribes and have basically said the same. They want cruisers who cruise for the brand and not perks.
If Carnival didn't have enough repeat business, or enough single cruisers (which they can get with casino offers), they would change.
Royal has their business model and Carnival has their's.
No reason they can't apply valid Princess gift cards obtained from AARP, but check with them. If they have no idea what you are talking about or hesitate, find another TA.
Yes. I wonder what kind of barrel the bottle is aged in? 🙂
I think I have seen it on display on a ship once or twice.
I think the best I will do is try the special Woodford Princess variety. Whatever that is.
The al fresco dinners have been a thing on journey cruises for a while. Lately they have occured on multiple evenings. One criteria is being Diamond, but there are other possibilities. The more times you eat in the MDR and are noticed by staff (in a good way), the better the odds for the non-Diamond cruiser
Thank you. Even at just an 8% discount these days, it is still money to me! I didn't want to load up to be left holding onto too many. I also might consider purchasing the plus or higher in advance now. The 8% will offset the increase in Princess insurance, and Princess will raise the package price sooner of later.
On most Carnival ships, and I would think Mardi Gras, you can get fries and maybe cole slaw at the deli, and caesar salad at the pizzeria.

It's called product differentiation. Carnival wants cruisers who like the brand and Royal likes cruisers who cruise for the perks/bribes. It's been said time and again.
