  1. well yes I guess everyone might have their preferences for topic conversations Nevertheless I have certainly found 'what do you do for a living' to be a very common ice breaker and none that anyone has ever seemed to take offence to. There might be people who prefer not to talk about their families, their past travel etc either - but one starts ice breaking and getting to know you somewhere. so, I think a cultural thing in that Australians consider that a reasonable starting point question.
  2. well yes of course - but that goes for any question or conversation topic.
  3. Must be a cultural thing then. I've never come across anyone felling it is uneccesarily intrusive - is a simple getting to know you question that people can answer in vague way if they have some secret service top job. I've found it extremely common for people to start conversations with that. And nothing about people is any of our business - but wouldn't be much conversation if we never asked people about themselves or shared about ourselves.
  4. is what do you/did you do for a living a bad question?? When meeting people on vacation or day trips or anywhere this seems a common ice breaker question to me - have been asked that many times and never thought it or found it problematic for anyone.
  5. perhaps it was nothing to do with rough seas but somebody having a psychotic episode and behaving dangerously? so people sent to their cabins for everyone's safety?
  6. Haha. Yes I've heard before that 'fun run' is a good example of an oxymoron.
  7. yes I am applauding return to normal It was a test run, feedback was listened to and idea was shelved - good outcome all round.
  8. I love doing jigsaws. Have one on the go under my pergola, so relaxing to wind down after work or any time I always do 1000 piece horizontal ones, and ones with busy picture, not sceneries with half sky and half grass types. Take a few weeks each to complete. this is the last one I did.
  9. we are doing this exact trip but in reverse - ie Siem Riep to HCMC - in January next year. Will look out for any information you post about it.
  10. My recent Europe river cruise - nobody on board wore masks Guests or staff.
  11. I find this sort of attitude very annoying. whenever people give negative feedback about a change some people's reaction is just to label them haters of change, complainers etc It is an ad honinem way of dismissing people's opinion and making it personal rather than addressing content of what they said.
  12. and sometimes, even when travelling, you just want something simple and quick.. I cant remember if Ive ever got Mcdonalds when travelling in another country - but it is possible.
  13. There are shop assistant in my local Kmart
  14. did a 5 km fun run this morning - our town runs one every year on Australia Day.
  15. Maybe War Memorial is wrong term - where we went is where the trials took place from Scenic literature Start by taking a drive to the Rally Grounds and explore the Memorium Nurnberger Prozesse, where subsequent trials of *** party members took place.
  16. lots of both K-marts and Targets in Australia.
  17. Or if we all don't play at all and dont vote at all ( which seems to be the case anyway, can only see 1 vote ) then they will see this isn't a winner.
  18. I had a post pending moderation approval too - no idea why, it was not at all controversial. and then it got submitted exactly as I had written it anyway.
  19. Absolutely. Pack 8 pairs of shoes, or whatever you like. But OP does have a weight/space limit and did ask for help on this - so pack a s many as yo u want probably won't work for her.
  20. I normally wouldnt quote a post that I a m directly responding to - but changing post order means conversations will be all muddled up.🥴 We are showing appreciation - they asked for feedback so we are giving it. I will not be voting for any posts. and Cruises with Amazing Scenery seems to me an example of a totally subjective topic with no possible best answer. I see it also now has no votes - so I dont think any answer was ever voted as best - it just had temporary votes, now withdrawn, by someone testing the system, not actually choosing a best answer
  21. Something like Does Singapore Airlines fly to Cambodia? - has a correct answer. Objectively it either does or doesn't. But most threads asking those sort of questions get answered quickly and there is no need for discussion (and mostly person could of found out for themselves without CC anyway) any discussion will have opinions, preferences, pro's/cons etc - there isnt a correct answer
