  1. YW. It’s been quite a while since we visited and we were planning on a return. They have a few packages and PAYG. Used to have Happy Hour 12-3pm. It belongs to the same group as another of our favorites, La Monina and the museum roof top restaurant, Novena Ola There is a small open-air chapel at the side of the beach club which is nice to check out.
  2. Not sure if you have checked out the photo intensive review of Sky Reef, with lots of snorkeling from @mitsugirly from land vacation 2021 before cruising resumed? https://www.travelwithmitsugirly.com/copy-of-day-7-diving-skyreef-2

    Roatan

I’m sorry you feel that way but your reaction to Coxen Hole and comments you have made suggest you were unprepared for what you found whereas I don’t think you should have been surprised. Perhaps you are just trying to make sure others are aware?

    Cabana Beach?

Yes unless you want the private area of the cabanas. I don’t know if you have been to Chankanaab before? The cabanas are located at the far end of the beach from the main entrance. I haven’t done the cabanas and they keep changing the price and what is included but obviously there is the privacy and relaxing and a small amount of food (fruit plate?) included but the rest is extra.

    Cabana Beach?

It is at Chankanaab. They subcontract a section and it is only the Cabanas, so yes, you have to rent one. If you google Cabana beach, Cozumel you will get all the details including the option to check which ones are available on your day. It is not a beach club in its own right.
  6. Krazy Lobster seems to have taken over some of the smaller locations to the side so it now occupies a fairly long stretch of beach. It has reasonably good food and service but is certainly busy and I don’t find it particularly relaxing. El Fuerte is a small hotel beach bar so will be quieter. Good is subjective depending on what your priorities are. The middle of the malecon is all “busy ”, with the same stretch of sand and ocean with frequent vendors. ETA, I believe they both have PAYG options still, although I have seen package rates advertised for El Fuerte, so easy enough to try both.
  7. I stand corrected (slightly)! Google maps says it is 2 miles, actually 10 minutes by taxi, 30 minutes walking I agree with @lifes-a-beach. It is safe and possible to walk but is hot and not particularly inspiring. We prefer to taxi to one end of the malecon, bar hop the length (one mile) and taxi back from the other end.
  8. How busy was it? It used to be a more relaxing, quieter location due to distance from port but pre-covid it had become much busier and got crossed off our list. It is certainly popular with land visitors trying to avoid the cruise crowds.

    Roatan

A little research in advance would probably have prepared you for this. Coxen Hole is the original Port of Roatan. All I can say is, it is more developed and less intimidating than 15-20 years ago. Pre-covid developments were underway but I am sure are on hold. If you cruise again it would probably be best to do some pre-planning to make the most of your time in port. There are many ports in the world where ports themselves are not destinations.
  10. Not something I would do as plenty of good restaurants and shopping in Cozumel but it has certainly been done. I would only go during a land visit. However, you have the advantage of probably (not 100%) docking downtown and therefore would be able to walk to ferry eliminating the time needed for an extra taxi each end. Buy one-way ferry tickets in case the other company is running the route for your return. Keep a watch on ship time - not sure where your cruise leaves from.
  11. Thanks, that was one of the places on my to do list. Food and drinks were OK? It has a pier?
  12. Which beach club? Which end of town?
  13. As stated depends on mother nature and varies by year BUT Costa Maya highly likely Cozumel east coast likely, west coast less likely Roatan less likely than other places
  14. This was why I asked if they all needed to be active at once. We only buy one plan one device because we don’t generally need to be on at the same time. We can log on, separately, from multiple devices.
  15. Do you need all 4 devices active at one time?
  16. Is it Sanchos? It is the next beach club as far as I know but I didn’t realize it was that close. Or possibly Fury beach club where the cruise ship snorkeling boats come in.
  17. Thanks for reporting back. Yes, I knew it was small, it is a small eco-hotel, not a beach club like Nachi so I wouldn’t have those expectations. My impression was it had a better beach than Maya Chan and beaches on the malecon although I am sure it would still be affected by sargassum if it was around. I hadn’t seen any recent reviews so wondered how transport was since Covid. Strange they couldn't make cocktails. I think I would be more inclined to try Hotel Maya Luna (also small hotel but closer to port) or Hayhu (beach club) if I had long port hours and wanted to go out of town.
  18. Just wondering if you have been to Almaplena yet? Any thoughts?
  19. There is a review on Royal Caribbean blog from March 2022 and appeared to go to AJ’s then.
  20. We haven’t been round the island since 2021 when the sargassum was so bad and it was so hot we aborted our tour! Last year we stuck to west side. Always interested to learn of somewhere new. The only other one i can think of in that area was Albertos who built a structure several years ago but never opened because he supposedly couldn’t get a license. Maybe some one new has moved in!
  21. Hmm, let us know where you end up next month. You have me interested. There are others but those are the main ones around Coconuts. There is a small eco hotel to the left of Coconuts but I am not sure if you can just call in for drinks.
  22. Only those in Carnival corporation. others dock at Coxen Hole, presently with no facilities beyond small shopping area and a couple of bars.
  23. OK Not sure where you were, or where the “main area” is - Punta Morena, as originally discussed is large. Coconuts is up a cliff so definitely no beach. El Pesacador is at the side of Chen Rio. Snr Iguanas and Mezcalitos are the first two, at the end of transversal. There are a few others in the middle and Rastas at the other end. Maybe take a look at Google maps if you intend to return next month. ETA I may understand now - do you mean you sat on the beach at the RHS of Coconuts and climbed the stairs each time you wanted a drink?
