  1. Before I retired, my job took me to Alaska and Hawaii too many times to count. I spent many a day as a non-tourist in cities, towns, and villages where cruise ships port for the day. I've also cruised with my family to many of these same port stops. The majority of these folks feel the same as anyone else in any other city or town across the US where the township may schedule events. Roads/sidewalks are going to be crowded, stay away during this time frame if you can. If you can't schedule your time to avoid the crowds, just be aware. If your job or business is to cater to these crowds, then enjoy the additional revenue. Just like current politics though, each community can have its own very vocal minority.
  2. I'm not one who you asked this question to but let me share my experience if I may. I reached out to my insurance company and asked some very specific questions such as 1. Can I have the out of country hospital bill you direct? No, you pay up front and then file for reimbursement. 2. Will you do an emergency upfront loan or letter of ability to pay if I don't have the funds to pay upfront? No 3. After I have been evacuated to an emergency facility and lifesaving treatment has been completed, will you pay for me to be evacuated back home for continued care? No 4. Will you completely reimburse me at full rates charged for services received? Policy is to reimburse at Usual and Customary. 5. If I die, will you reimburse for repatriation of my remains? No With the answers to these questions, I have decided that my best interest is served if I purchase a Travel Insurance policy that pays as "Primary" and keep my Medicare policy as a backup plan. I purchase all my travel insurance plans thru Steve at Get the Best Trip Insurance Details, Advice (tripinsurancestore.com)
  3. A few questions but first of all a comment. If you look at reviews for any Travel Insurance company, you would never buy travel insurance. Why? Cause people are pissed when their claims are denied for something that wasn't even a covered event. Now to the questions. 1. What were the covered travel dates? Are you 100% sure that the pre-cruise dates were even covered. I ask because many policies bought from the cruise lines direct only are effective for the dates of the cruise. 2. Are you 100% positive that "Trip Interruption" was the correct claim to file? I'm thinking that if you filed under "Trip Delay", that might be a more appropriate claim. See definitions and/or explanation of the difference here. Get the Best Trip Insurance Details, Advice (tripinsurancestore.com) 3. If you are pretty/kinda sure that your claim should be covered, you can always file a complaint with your State Insurance Commission whose job it is to protect citizens of each State from getting hosed over by insurance companies. The web site for Tennessee would be here File a Complaint (tn.gov)
  4. I think that since she's a married woman, the decision of what to do should be hers. There is no she/we in the decision-making process. Mom and/or Dad should just step back and worry about other things. Now, were DD asking this question, I would suggest that she keep everything as is and use her passport for ID. All reservations and bookings are made. Why take the chance of someone screwing something up by putting more fingers into the reservation pie.
  5. Would I like to have cream or Half & Half for my coffee in the morning? Yes. Do I expect it? No Your expectations are too high if you expect to travel internationally and expect foods, spices, and condiments to be the same everywhere in the world as you have at home. Just returned from 3 weeks in Europe and a 13 day cruise. I am currently sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee the way I prefer it and looking forward to a glass full of ice with some cola in it.
  6. I cancelled my "Refreshment" package on 28 September due to price drop for Deluxe Drink Package on Anthem on that day. The "Refreshment" package amount was credited back to my original card on 4 October. So, 6 calendar days or 3 or 4 business days.
  7. I’ve returned and sitting at DFW now waiting on my connecting flight. The walk from the plane to Immigration was fairly short. At Immigration (We have GE), you don’t even need your passport anymore at the Global Entry kiosk. Just walk up to the machine, facial recognition takes care of the rest. We then proceeded to an Immigration office who just waived us thru. Next was baggage claim. After claiming your luggage, you exit between carousel 4 & 5. There was no Customs as I’ve experienced in the past. We just exited. (I’m sure there are Customs agents watching for certain signs or personal tendencies) Stay to the left to recheck luggage to all airlines. Stay to the right to exit the airport. Next for us, since we were reconnecting, we had to pass thru security check point. General security had a huge line after dropping off luggage, Pre-Check was a much further walk to the left after entering the main concourse. This line was long for us also. 15 minute wait.
  8. You have resources at your disposal for emergency medical treatment and evacuation back to the US?
  9. Not sure what you mean by how do they work. From the guest point of view, once on board the ship, the ship bills your on board account the total amount of the suggested gratuities. You do nothing from there.
  10. I’m currently on Anthem of the Seas doing a 12 or 13 night Canary Island cruise from Southampton. I have a CSR (Chase Sapphire Reserve) card on file for my on board charges. So far, every single charge on board is also hitting my CSR card and showing as “pending”. The “pendings” fall off after 7 days. I only provide this information to give a live example of how some cards and some cruise lines work “holds” or “ pendings”. If one has a low limit card, expect the holds to reduce your available credit. Plan on only using half of the available credit amount and expect the other half to be used for “Pending”.
  11. Well, I was going to say Thanks for helping keep Loft 19 a bit of a secret. Now, everybody will want one and the price will increase dramatically.
  12. the “holds” are released by the financial institution that issued the card, NOT the merchant who placed the “holds”. When those holds are released is up to the financial institution..
  13. If nothing else, at least go to Steve’s web site at TripInsuranceStore and read thru the FAQ and other sections just to educate yourself regarding travel insurance. Travel insurance can be a blessing when needed for a “Covered Event”, however, knowing what is and what is not a covered event is vitally important.
  14. Currently on Anthem sailing out of Southampton on our way to the Canaries. We are in a GS and there is a WiFi Access Point in our cabin. (Not sure if every cabin has an access point) Anyway, Speedtest had 189Mbps download speed and 25Mbps upload speed with a ping of 46ms and a jitter of 6ms. I have not experienced any loss of connectivity.
  15. The disclaimer has been in the Contract of Carriage for 20 years at least. When we began cruising with Carnival, the contract has always said that the need for proper documentation to travel is the passengers responsibility.
  16. You agree in the claim to give the insurance company access to any and all necessary medical records. If you don’t agree, they deny the claim.
  17. Y’all were correct. The information is in the app. Just not what I was expecting. on a cruise out of Southampton and the contact number is a 1-800 number. I was expecting information like supplied when sailing out of US ports. (Name of local port agent along with local phone number)
  18. If you’re going to go electronic, I’m fine with that. However, you can’t mix and match. The Royal App needs to include the Port Agent information please.
  19. Today is 3 Oct 23. My wife and I just spent the last week in London and a couple of days in Paris. We brought 300 pounds and 300 euros. We’ve still got all of our paper money. Everywhere we went I used my phone to pay except 1 time I had to use physical card. No, my cards aren’t limiting out. I had the expected amount in savings and just paid the credit card via electronic banking every couple of days.
  20. Pro for Carnival Insurance: price is not age based includes cancel for any reason coverage Cons for Carnival Insurance Medical coverage is secondary Medical coverage is woefully too low
  21. When my flights got cancelled last year, I had to call the airline customer service line to request a letter of explanation from the carrier. Since I had status with the airline, my letter was emailed within minutes of request.
  22. Can confirm that you can purchase both Paris metro tickets in book of 10 and can also purchase London Oyster card on board the Eurostar. On board now.
  23. Before I retired, I had BCBS with an international rider coverage. I don't trust basic highlights or brochures that provide coverage information. I reached out to HR for more specific answers to questions I had and they were worthless. So, I called BCBS directly and asked very specific questions about very specific scenarios. Questions like evacuation, hospital coverages, advanced payment if needed, in network vs out of network. Medivac back home coverage, spousal support coverages, repatriation of remains coverages. After having that conversation, I decided that the option that worked best for me was to purchase a travel coverage plan and use my BCBS as a backup secondary option.
  24. Is there a link or a particular site you can recommends that forecasts sea conditions in the Bay of Biscay? Myself? I'm not too worried. I've proven my sea legs thru the years. My wife on the other hand is very concerned. Any information that I can find to help her prepare would be helpful. Past experience tells us that once you are not feeling well, it's too late for meds. She'll have them with her and if we can foresee that the conditions may be rough, she can prepare accordingly. I have been watching Met Office - UK Weather
