  1. Fair day here again, this will be the fourth day on the trot where we have not needed to put the heating on. Not quite time to cast a clahht though. Seems to be a fair few vertically challenged folk on here. Reminds me of my old mam as she was just under five feet, which is probably why she struggled to put food on the table. My dad was 5'7" yet my younger brother and myself are just over 6'2". Both my grandchildren are taller than me so I recon there is a tall gene lurking in the family.
  2. Dress like you would for any British summer😁. Joking apart I have always found the way to deal with cold when stood out watching various sports and moorland walking is to have a good waterproof coat with a rating of 10000mm. The extreme waterproofing keeps the wind at bay. I always have a size bigger than required so a fleece can be worn underneath if stood around. Mountain warehouse supply a good range at sensible prices if you don't want to splash out too much for what could be a one off. A pair of waterproof walking trousers with a base layer if you feel the need. Plus a lined hat and gloves.
  3. Same here Brian, although th'asda does a fair butter chicken.
  4. We wanted a long Med cruise after the kids go back to school in 2025. P&O: nothing above 19 nights so ruled out. Princess: 31 day Med marvel, Southampton- Southampton. Inside from £2999 pp. Fred: 32 nights Spanish colours, ex Newcastle-fly home. Inside from £4999 pp. Cunard: 32 nights Med and Greek islands, fly to Venice- Southampton. Inside from £ 2500 pp. We opted for a balcony at £2999 with an overnight stay in Venice the day before. We only booked last week and the balcony price has gone up several hundred £. As you say it is difficult to get an exact comparison but I feel this is pretty close.
  5. We cruised with Fred until 2013 and liked them for the itineraries and smaller ships. Then the prices were comparable with the other main stream lines then for some reason the prices seemed to go up and up. Even with offers it is rare that we see any good deals with Fred. When I have done like for like comparisons Fred is usually the more expensive of the main stream cruise lines. Fair play to them if they can maintain their prices and not lose their customer base, I bet all the cruise lines wish they could do that.
  6. I do know that KM travel do coach tours to Warners as I saw a couple this morning in their window. They also pick up by minibus to take you to the depot for the coach. We have done Bodelwyddan castle and Alverston hall and enjoyed the.
  7. The wind has got up here but the sun has come out and it is pleasant, I have been sat in the garden reading and Mrs YP's bloomers have been almost horizontal on the washing line😁. Now I have an earworm "the answer my friend is blowing in the wind" Our neighbour often leaves me washing messages:
  8. I have also tried some of the desserts as they looked fine from the description but were tasteless. We used to have a local cafe where the lady who ran it made various vegan cakes and pastries which were delicious, so it can be done.
  9. Don't give up Avril, you and Frank deserve a cruise. We used Staysure for many years, however we don't know how good they are when faced with a claim as we have fortunately not needed to make one. When the Nationwide flexplus account was discussed on here I decided to look into that as we also wanted to open a joint current account. I phoned the advertised Nationwide number to see what any extras would be and whether the insurance looked suitable. It looks fine and is considerably less than Staysure for similar/better cover so we opened an account, with the added bonus of having £200 added to the account as a new customer. Again I won't really know how good they will be until I need to claim.
  10. Morning all (just) The forecast today was wall to wall sunshine with a light breeze. I put my shorts on and Mrs YP had a load of washing on the timer. It has been dull all morning with no breeze so the washing is still hanging limply on the line, fortunately it is warm enough for the shorts so not all bad. Hopefully those suffering storm Kathleen will get through unscathed. Enjoy the weekend all, especially if you are on a cruise, and for those having trouble standing up even without a storm I hope you are feeling better. You know you are getting old when Dennis the menace and Gnasher are all grown up
  11. I have found the veggie curries to be very good, we very rarely use meat in curries at home as the flavour is from the spices not the meat/veg base. Similar for chilli, which I now make using lentils. I am sure that other spicy dishes would be fine for us.
  12. Mrs YP went there for a scan last year, that would have been better for us as we go to Barnsley several times a week. However she was told she couldn't go to Barnsley as she was invited to go for the test by Kirklees area of the NHS. I am not sure what the circumstances of insisting on Barnsley would have been, but it isn't such a big deal for us. For non drivers Barnsley isn't much use for our area as we don't have a bus service other than 3 buses on Saturday.
  13. A lovely warm day here with a breeze, we went out for breakfast with one of my old workmates and his wife this morning. So a good chinwag there. Mrs YP then had to go for the dreaded mammogram. I am now going to have a whinge about the NHS after extolling their virtues over the last few years with our own experiences. Usually the mobile unit parks at a local surgery where they can fence off part of the car park. However this has now changed and no local facility is available. It is no more than an inconvenience and a low cost to us, but for people that have to use public transport it will be more onerous as most of the towns and villages around us do not have a particularly good bus service plus the new facility is out of town meaning that more than one bus is required. I fear that some people will not go which will then add more load onto the NHS at a later date.
  14. I also think P&O lack imagination with their cruise itineraries and have for many years. Same old same old is fine for us for the longer round trip cruises to the Caribbean for some winter sun or a shorter cruise just to get away. However for our bucket list cruises they are limited and do not travel to many parts of the world. We quite like a nice long med cruise in summer but that usually means we have to look elsewhere. New cruisers are fine just as we were when we were new but some of us seasoned cruisers who are still pretty mobile and want to visit new places then P&O don't fit the bill for us.
  15. If those ports were removed I wouldn't be interested in a fjords cruise, if it could actually be called a fjords cruise.
  16. I usually wear one glove in October as it can be quite cool but on the other hand it can be a bit warmer.
  17. Maybe have a whip round and get him to stay at home😁
  18. This same cruise did drop in price and like you we rebooked and made a nice saving, I see that the current price is actually more than our original offering was by booking first day with less OBC. I also noted that there are not many cabins left so don't expect much discounting before the cruise date.
  19. I am sure you are right, some will complain, I would imagine that some who do get to see him will also complain that he wasn't very good and not worth a tenner even though it was for a good cause. Such is life. I would be happy to pay to see someone I liked or a better class of act but if P&O were to put such acts on in the main theatre with a surcharge I am sure there would also be complaints.
  20. Turned out nice again, after a miserable grey day yesterday and a damp and murky start today it turned into a lovely evening. It is so nice to be able to go for a walk after tea now we have some evening light. I also managed to book a cheeky med cruise for next year on Queen Vic. I keep saying I need to stop booking cruises so far in advance but sometimes something catches your eye and you just have to do it.
  21. We like to go to the Med in late Sept/Oct and have had everything from hot to wet and windy while travelling up and down the coast of Portugal Spain and France. Last October on Aurora it was lovely and sunny from day one from Southampton until coming back where we had three wet and windy days force 9/10 from Gib.
  22. We have just booked a Med cruise which can be taken as 3 or 4 segments. We have saved approx 45% by booking a package with our TA. Plus we have a night stay before the cruise.
  23. They are going to use this system for disembarkation in the UK. They are calling it buffet to baggage in 3 seconds.
  24. The attributes of copper, brass and tin have a similar effect have been known for several thousand years. One of the reasons that hospital doors had brass or copper contact plates back in the day. I remember a programme where the benefits of copper were highlighted during a Cholera outbreak in France where people who worked the copper mines were unaffected. It is still not fully understood exactly how the process works as it can vary from microbe to microbe and there is no real value in spending money to find out as modern alternatives are cheaper. Slugs and snails are not keen on copper with some gardeners swearing by copper wire and tape to protect their plants. However as with most things there are arguments against this. I have noticed we have quite a few snails on our hydrangeas now that the leaves have opened, plus the white and greenfly are hovering around the rose growth. Spring is definitely in the air today with lovely warm sunshine.
  25. You will need to be vigilant. Lovely warm spring day here. We went to Barnsley for breakfast as usual and picked up the shopping for over Easter weekend. We saw our first swallows of the year which I assume are nesting in the arches of the train wall. We have not seen them so early before up here. I hope everyone has a nice Easter
