  1. I don’t recall the details (on auto-pilot) …lol On the TV, it pops up when you turn it on. Can’t get past it until you watch. I think….you watch it through your app. No need to connect to internet. But you will have to connect to ship’s intranet. It’s pretty intuitive. You’ll figure it our. Won’t take you more than 15 minutes.
  2. If you are unable to get into your room early, find a nice spot to sit and watch the drill on your personal device. You could even watch it after you order your lunch (in the MDR) and before it arrives. This is a good start to your tour. “Find your muster station.” You can do either/or first. Just be sure each of you signs in on separate devices. You both can watch it on the stateroom tv.
  3. They "used to" have a ship's tour included with the Bon Voyage Experience. Sadly, that was discontinued way before the pandemic. Part of the "fun" of exploring a new ship is to do your own tour. There really are only 4 main decks (Lido, Plaza, Fiesta, and Promenade). The outliers are aft Deck 6 (far removed MDR) and Skywalker/SPA on opposite ends of the ship. The Grand/GEM class ships are very easy to get around. Use Deck 7 as your "highway". Do a YouTube search and you will find many video tours.
  4. I just returned from the islands with 2 medium sized suitcases, 1 carry on, one CPAP, and one under the seat bag. I don't know how to pack light. Granted....most of it was food from the islands and other "stuff" to restock my pantry with or give away. VERY little (one packing cube) was clothes. Total weight of everything? Probably close to 100 pounds
  5. Go to MDR as you normally would. After dinner, go back to your cabin, change, pack what you wore, THEN place your suitcase outside the door. Normally, they do not remove luggage until 9 or 10 PM. Or just wear what you are going to wear off the ship.
  6. That's a really broad spectrum. Oahu, Hawaii - Hawaii Plantation Village (not a working plantation/more of a museum). http://www.hawaiiplantationvillage.org On my bucket list was Williamsburg. I was slightly disappointed since I was hoping it was more of a "working" plantation with "real life" exhibits. What type of plantation are you interested in? The ones I visited are accessible by car not along a shoreline.
  7. You can join the ship in Alaska....IF.... You booked by EZ Air and missed the ship. They will/should guarantee that you arrive at the next port AND they should pay for the PVSA. If you didn't use EZ Air, be prepared. The immigration line could be as long as 1 to 2 hours to get through at the airport. Then it is another 30 minutes to Canada Place.
  8. Don't need a luggage scale. As I age, so has my strength. If I can lift it, it is less than 50 pounds. There's something to say about getting "weaker". My "scale" has been pretty accurate. Off by a couple of pounds (less). I can get pretty close to 45 - 49 pounds. On a more serious note. I understand that with baggage fees going up, that more and more people are trying to squeeze their life into a carry on. I think the problem lies more with how to transport the carry on (train, bus, shuttle). Some won't have places to store a larger item and therefore still will need to be "checked" ahead/place out for pick up. If traveling as two, maybe one suitcase can be shared (half and half) and the other sent to the ship. 17 inch maximum is pretty small.
  9. If you booked directly with Princess, you can contact them via chat or a phone call. If you booked via a TA, they will need to cancel for you. (Typed too slowly….lol)
  10. Hawaii can get pretty pricey to bring any mammal into the islands. They would need to have all shots, including rabies, a veterinarian’s clearance to enter the island, and meet with an agriculture inspector upon arrival to first port of entry. We have no rabies on the islands.
  11. It is very difficult to be "patient" ... speaking from experience. You should get back: OBC gift card balances to your gift cards Medical from your medical insurance (check) and/or Trip interruption from AON (check) Whatever else is outstanding and due to you from AON AND maybe, balance not used for Premier from Princess
  12. Semi-correct: Establishments cannot ask for "proof", but they can ask what service the dog is trained to do. Of course, the unscrupulous will give whatever answer they want. There is a difference between a therapy animal, a service animal, and an emotional support animal.
  13. Yes, they do send you an email attachment of your folio. It may take a few days. Some have found it to be “different” than their screen shot. Best to have a “final” hard copy before getting off the ship. Unfortunately, the kiosks do break down often or run out of paper.
  14. As part of their "save the paper" campaign, folio statements are no longer delivered to the stateroom. On the Grand/GEM class ships, there are kiosks to print out your statements...at any time. Or Customer Service will be happy to print one out for you. In addition, you can view your account on the app (but it disappears as soon as you leave the ship/screen shot is a great idea). I can't say what happens on a Royal Class ship (don't know if they have kiosks). Your hold will drop off in a few days. I just charged a portion of my final payment and it took 3 business days for it to go from pending to posted on my Credit Card account. Word of caution....do not wait until the last day to pay your final payment.
  15. Ship DOES NOT dock in front of/base of the Fairmont Hotel (Old Quebec). She ports at the "new" terminal (building),
  16. That's a pretty good chunk considering "Hawaii" wasn't even considered in the path. Congrats. Glad you were proactive in searching out the time.
  17. You indicated that you booked through a TA. (S)he should be the one to be calling the Resolutions Department on your behalf. An experienced TA would know all the ins and outs of getting problems resolved.
  18. I think you should ask the moderators to retitle your thread. Q re re-routing of world cruises Nothing indicates which ship/cruise line (Q is for Queen or Question?) is being impacted. Thank you.
  19. Is the current Marseilles tour the same as the one you are waitlisted? Not quite understanding the sequence. For simplicity: You are booked on Tour A. You are waitlisted on Tour B. It all depends: on when you clear waitlist AND if there is enough time before Tour A to cancel. Generally, there is a deadline for cancelling Tour A without penalties (unless a helicopter or other specialty excursion). I would not take for granted that Tour A will automatically cancel when you clear waitlist for Tour B. I have been at the counter when someone has cancelled and the next person in line got the space (not sure if waitlist was also cleared behind the scene). Be proactive and check constantly. If cancelled before embarkation, refund will show up on form of payment. If cancelled while on the ship, it will be refunded as refundable OBC.
  20. I am not adventurous and would choose the CB over the new Sun. I'm not into bigger is better ships. Granted, a suite lounge would be nice, but how far away would it be from your cabin/How much would you use it? I, too, saw reviews of the Signature Suite. I'd much prefer the layout of a Vista Suite with a much larger balcony. Choose your itinerary over the ship. Which ports are more important? 7-8 days are not very many in the bigger scheme of life. BUT...the Sun will have newer production shows (when they come online). Lots more pay for entertainment (Spellbound, restaurants, etc). Tendering will be an issue RETURNING to the ship on either ship.
  21. I would love to list foods to try at every Hawaii port, but unfortunately, this is not the thread to do it on. I would corner Tiki Dave or Lealoha and ask them for recommendations for some "real" local foods AND snacks breaks.
  22. I am so thrilled that you were able to get some good views. Kudo's to Princess for providing glasses. I had friends fly from HNL to Texas....only to get cloud cover for most of the eclipse. You got a bonus activity on your cruise. Good timing on your part.
  23. 1. You don’t “work it out” with the waiter. Ask to speak to the Assistant Manager of the section you are seated in. Request that you be in his/her section every night. He/she will take your order the night before. 2. Most, if not all, miso soups have some sort of fish base. Not sure the ship would have vegetarian miso onboard, but worth asking. What is the difference between vegan miso and miso? Most miso stock is dashi, a Japanese broth made from dried fish, kelp, and shiitake mushrooms. Japanese versions of vegan miso stock use dashi that only contains mushrooms and kelp. Miso stock in the United States may use vegetable, chicken, or Western-style fish stock instead of dashi.Oct 29, 2021 3. The Assistant Maitre d’ can always be found in the buffet. Ask him/her who you should ask about your concerns. 4. When I was on the Diamond, I was given a choice from a few, more Asian, vegetables.
  24. Only once did we get some kind of smell. Either smoke or cleaning agent. We had to use a towel and pillow to block the door vent for the night. That’s one night over many cruise days.
