  1. Anywhere on the Zaandam to get pizza ? free ice cream ? If they have milkshakes anywhere, does your beverage package include them ??? thanks
  2. I would NEVER travel in a wheelchair again. I KNOW this experience is NOT typical. We did a cruise 2 years ago to avoid not losing all the credits. My knees were bad & I put off surgery. Had to use a heavy brace & cane. SFO to Miami. Layover in Texas. Did a wheelchair in the airport & getting on & off the boat. Kind, fantastic service UNTIL the way back. Got a TSA agent from hell. I told my husband to go ahead to the gate as I might take awhile. I am a tough old bird but was caught so off guard by this agent I was in tears. She harassed me for almost an hour. I do not care what anyone says....nothing happens to these people. She insisted I could walk. Took my cane AND brace & put them through the xray. She insisted on seeing my boarding pass. I told her it was in my purse which went through the xray machine. She told me how stupid I was to do that because you should always hold on to it. It went down hill from there... I will not bore you with the rest of the sordid details. Point is I never understood how totally venerable you are & how although most are kind, there are those few tormented souls that take their misery out on you. Have now have had both knees replaced & have no pain in either one. Those are really bad ass surgeries but end result is worth it ! I hear that hip replacement is much easier nowadays. Do not put it off if inevitable. It will change the quality of your life.
  3. We are are the 7 night, 3/18/22 cruise out of San Diego. It has been sold out for quite a long time. There is 1 other 7 night in March but that also has been sold out.
  4. Going on an Alaska cruise the end of May. We love Skagway but have heard about that port being cancelled on other cruises. Continuing problems with rock slides... We have made our final payment & checked on the internet & it still shows as a stop. Any guesses if we will go there ? when do you think they will let us know ? thanks
  5. NOT SO ! In 2003, the Crystal Harmony did an illegal dumping outside the waters of Monterey Bay. Monterey banned cruise ships for years after that.
  6. by saying GPS...people get the idea that they can find you anywhere, by saying BLE/NFC/RFID might be a bit confusing to most.
  7. I think the majority of people knew what I meant.....
  8. Probably varies a bit from year to year. This season does not start until May so I doubt you will be able to get an accurate menu before then. We are on a 10 day cruise in May. We have been there many times Unfortunately, I think crab season is again cancelled this year in Alaska. That was definitely one of my favorite. You will get plenty of fresh salmon. Aside from the fresh fish, there will be lots of other choices. My husband does not eat seafood !
  9. LOVED the medallion ! I was a bit leery at first but soon got used to it. You have NO room key. I wore mine around my neck & my husband got a clip for his shirt. When you get about 2 feet from your cabin , you hear a click & your door is unlocked. When you get on & off the ship, they just click your medallion. Most people do like like this part but I found it a bit amusing....there is a built in GPS. Crew carry what looks like a large iphone. When you order a drink they click it on your medallion. They then see your face & what drink package you have. I was at the table in the buffet when the waiter came over & I ordered a drink. Shortly after that, I got up & started the buffet line. I then felt a tap on my shoulder. It was the waiter with my drink....he knew exactly where I was !
  10. Regarding extra $$ for lobster & once a day cabin service....check around other cruise lines. Some are following the same way. When we started cruising, decades ago, there was no such thing as a pay restaurant. I predict in the future that the main dining room will be the ONLY one you do not pay for. As far as staffing.......just about EVERY store & restaurant where I live has help wanted signs in their windows. A lot of cruise lines are now offering 'different ' experiences ' or levels. The more you pay, the more service & perks you will get. This is the way of the future of cruising BUT It is still the best bang for your buck. Try pricing out a 7 night trip at a hotel with meals, entertainment, etc !
  11. I was just checking on this yesterday. We are on the cruise after yours. There is still a lot of problems from the rock slides in Skagway. There are supposed to be 4 ships docked there the day we are. I will bet that 2 will be cancelled...may be ours ??? Perhaps the cruise lines are not being notified much in advance as the articles that I read indicate that Skagway is really trying to make an effort to accommodate as many ships as possible. I would not mind Victoria as a substitute. Th U.S. dollar is very strong right now against the Canadian one.
  12. Hard to believe a seasoned cruiser would take an inaugural cruise. They are notorious for being plagued with problems. ANY research into MSC would advise you to book the Yacht Club...If you stop smoking....you might be able to give up your cpap :O)
  13. We were on the Royal a few months and enjoyed the lounge immensely. Drinks were great but also a top notch specialty coffee machine available 24 hrs. They brought in entertainment a few evenings. We were lucky enough to have a cabin right across the hall. I am an insomniac so up a lot at night. They showed me where the milk was kept so every night, about 2 am, I crossed the hall & my robe & got milk & cookies ! We are doing an Alaska cruise in a few months on the Crown. I hear they do NOT have a 24 hr lounge :O(
  14. Remember guarantees can be ANY cabin... Under the disco club, obstructed view, etc,....twice we wound up with handicapped cabins which I do not like. The cabins you think are available are NOT the only ones.....they never show all of them We do not book guarantees anymore.
  15. We wanted to do that once but were told no customs were available so we were denied.
  16. Just got back a few weeks ago from a cruise out of L.A. to Cabo, Mazatlan & Puerto Vallarta We had no problems. Doing the same itinerary in March out of San Diego on Holland. More worried about the U.S. than Mexico..........
  17. That is more than appropriate even for dress night. My husband felt over dressed because he wore a jacket. Very few men wore ties. In fact, I do not think it is even called dress night anymore. rather than a 'suggestion'
  18. We were on the Royal Princess a few months ago. They had an amazing suite lounge, breakfast at Sabatini's, etc. I hear these do not exist on the Crown. Can someone please enlighten me as to what suite perks are available on the Crown ? Thanks
  19. Our cruise leaves in 2 days. We have a GS and quite awhile back bid on an Owners Suite & Royal Suite. There were none available at the time but thought there might be a cancellation. Still nothing shows available BUT.... I guess they want to be covered for people that do not show up. Sign of the times...weather/flu/covid We got an email last night asking if we wanted to leave our bid or cancel. If we leave our bid we have to be able to give up our cabin AFTER we have checked in and basically settled in later in the day if one of those cabins becomes available. If we do not, we will still be charged to our room, the amount of our bid. I know odds are slim but I agreed to leave the bid. Only bummer is I like to unpack right away. Guess I will have to wait for the sail away to do so.
  20. We got $100. PRE CRUISE OBC for our cruise on the Navigator next week. This was awhile back & I have no idea why we got it....BUT...it was specific & actually had an expiration date on it that was before the sailing. In other words, use it now or lose it. We booked a pay restaurant for dinner.
  21. Vancouver is a fabulous city. We always go there a day or 2 early. Also, I have found the itineraries better on those cruises. A lot of Seattle cruises will say they include Victoria BUT that is usually scheduled for around 7pm on the last night of the cruise ! I consider that a non stop !
  22. Not exactly sure what you are asking....but We did a nice cruise on the Royal Princess a few months ago. We are doing a Holland cruise in March with credits from a cancelled cruise AND.....if we do not get flooded out first....we are in California.... we are supposed to take a Royal Caribbean cruise next week !
  23. Got lost in all your questions on one posting......but.. did the Royal Princess 2 months ago. Internet AND tv reception not good Sabatini's for breakfast more limited menu and not really cooked to our liking. Did the club class breakfast most morning which was great. Most canapes had seafood which my husband does not eat. The substitutes were barley ok. The 'special' added selection for dinner every night was a freshly cooked pasta made in the dining room. The best part for us was that we had a room directly across from the suite lounge. Open 24 hours. cookies, little sandwiches, cheese plates etc. all the time. Evening cocktails & sometimes entertainment. As I am a true insomniac, I would cross the hall at 2 or 3 am in my robe & get myself a glass of milk & a snack !
  24. I know deck plans can be deceiving. But, they definitely show these cabins larger even though the location is not unique. MSC says they are the same size as the other YCP. Anyone been in one of these cabins & can comment ? thanks
