  1. Crowds? Both June and July will be equally unpleasant.
  2. Look at Trivago. Florence is fairly compact, and you can find good food everywhere (you can also find some terrible tourist traps).
  3. It's El Corte Ingles, not La Cote. It's a department store.
  4. Post was originally in OTHER MEDITERRANEAN PORTS.
  5. Another upside to using a credit card is you can either get money back (Citibank Double Cash Card, which has no yearly fee--and I'm sure there are others) or airline or Amtrak miles (likewise, the Amtrak Guest Rewards MasterCard has no yearly fee). I also have a couple of airline-connected credit cards with $99 yearly fees, and I haven't paid for an airline ticket in years.
  6. Upscale? You are confusing the wealthy people who have summer homes with the year-round residents.

    Paris

Paris is rather large, so it really depends on where you are staying. Your best bet is to ask for recommendations at the front desk of your hotel.
  8. Below you will see how many Europeans think about Americans tipping in Europe:
  9. Don't do this. Merchants in places where the crew shops will often not take them because they don't think they're real. I suspect changing them at the front desk is a real PITA for the crew. There was a discussion about this very issue on CC recently.
  10. Take a cable lock to fasten your bags on the train; a thief will take a single bag but not two fastened together, or fastened to the luggage carrier.
  11. You do not need 1st Class Tickets. You will be able to choose reserved seats on the two websites. Take a cable lock to secure your luggage if it's going to be out of your sight. You must be able to handle your luggage onto the train.
  12. It's a Muslim country. NOTHING will be closed for Easter. Ramadan is another story entirely.
  13. Take a taxi or walk down to 42nd Street and take the M42 bus.
  14. Not true. Matinees are also usually on Wednesdays.
  15. It only looks medieval; it was built between 1933 and 1936.
  16. Of course, the train will still be moving at that point.....
  17. The zoo is indeed nice, but it's also over 20 miles from the cruiseport.
  18. If you are departing out of Seattle, it is very likely that you will encounter rougher seas than cruises departing out of Vancouver.

  20. I've spent time in both cities. My advice: DON'T DO THIS.
  21. Merchants at the ports will often refuse to take them. Even within the U.S. they are sometimes rejected because they are so out of the ordinary that people think they aren't real currency.
