  1. I am saying they both are. I don't think it makes a difference whether they serve frozen rock lobster or not.
  2. Yes. They expect passengers will carry their phone around the ship. Most people are not going to be walking around with their tablet.
  3. Yes. the $7 vans run back and forth all day like shuttle. They leave when they fill up. In my experience it takes about three to ten minutes.
  4. They tried to cut out travel agents was part of it. That might have worked these days but back then online booking was a new thing. Oceania started with all R ships so it was sort of the succesor line. When a line goes bankrupt someone buys the ships without the obligations. Sort of a reorganization.
  5. Frank gel Rio the father used to lead Oceania. I think Oceania will raise prices not cutback.
  6. One of the main reasons dinner in the Oceanview was expanded years ago was to have an option for casual dress like shorts. I am not saying they will bend or change the rules but I believe they should if this huge cutback is real.
  7. Oceania may be under the NCL umbrella but you would never know it booking and onboard. They keep it distinct. It is unlike an NCL cruise. Their clientele would drop it if the quality went down. The problem would be if NCL goes bankrupt. Whatever cruise folks book on whatever cruise line all should purchase third party insurance.
  8. Maybe they will have to allow shorts in the MDR. Will fewer food choices necessarily drive people who use the Oceanview for dinner to the MDR?
  9. Bankrupcties and consolidation will solve the finncial problems. What else could? The Fed is pushing the economy into recession. Amazon is lying off 18.000 workers, etc. The cost of borrowing is going up. Recession is not good for discretionary leisure spending.
  10. It has not been proven that the other dining venues can't handle all the passengers. You all seem to think Celebrity has not thought it out. and the impact. You all sound hysterical. I think they have thought it out . That does not mean that it might not be a screw up. We have seen them screw up. If it is a big screw up they will change it. We have seen changes on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean that had to be rolled back.
  11. If they have or do eliminate traditional dining they will turn over more tables and accomodate more passengers.
  12. The international cheeses and chartucturie and the indian food. Did they have an indian food station on Equinox? My theory was it was the indian food was good because of the indian chefs.
  13. All cutbacks are a bad thing. I don’t know though how people stand the crappy buffets. I can’t eat even take lunch in the Oceanview anymore. They used to be pretty good. They need to go back to the good buffets. Instead of cutting back the dinner lido service they should upgrade it. In all honesty I am pretty much given up on Celebrity except for Bermuda sailings. Oceania or lines like it will get my bookings. The food and service is so much better. Food at their version of the lido is fresh and delicious.
  14. Most people don’t eat at the Oceanview for dinner. If they do it may be once a sailing. So only a few will be impacted by the cutback. Certainly Celebrity has factored that in. I don’t eat there because the Celebrity buffet food had become pretty bad. It is only good at breakfast. Breakfast is pretty hard to ruin.
  15. There are Pueblas in Colorado and Arizona that I have been in.
  16. All your onboard charges will be deducted fro your OBC until it runs out. I do cruise only all the time as my beverage bill usually have run about $40-$80 and I get specialty coffee free as an Elite Plus and some alchohol too.. I am a lite drinker so the packages are not a good deal for me. I have not drunk soda for 20 years so I don't have to worry about that, I keep track by checking my folio. On the cabin TV or app or guest service print out.
  17. I think they don't want to spend the money. Almost everyone has a smartphone. That is not the case with tablets and most tablets are iPads not Android tablets. What runs on an iPhone will run on an iPad without modification. There is only one hardware maker. So Celebrity only has to test iPhone code when new OS versios are released. It is only incidental that their code runs on iPads because the same code works although it is obviously a phone app running not a tablet app. On Android the Android phone code does not incidentally work because there are multiple hardware makers. They have made a corporate decison only to support phones.
  18. Because Celebrity is not supporting tablets.
  19. But they are not running on iPads as iPadOS apps they are running as iOS apps. Celebrity does not have an iPadOS app. So with some future version of iPadOS the Celebrity app may stop running since Celebrity does not have an iPadOS app. Really it is Celebrity’s decision whether to have an app on tablets. It costs money to support an app. Android is more difficult to support on multiple devices.
  20. I am not bothered that it could happen. Saying it could happen is meaningless. The last time the matter was taken up Homeland Security determined that cruise passengers leaving from an US port and returning to the same port were low risk. There is no indication that they are reviewing the policy. The mainstream mass market cruise lines are not going to require a passport. Certainly the current policies are not written in stone. Maybe Homeland security will change their determination. There have been many changes over the years. You seem to be part of a group of people who are overly bothered that people can cruise without a passport. I don’t think is is wise but a lot of people do unwise things. The fact though is that people can travel on closed loop cruises without a passport.
  21. Certainly something could change the way things are done. It won’t change because OCD Cruise Critic members can’t stand the fact that people can cruise some itineraries without passports and that people actually do cruise without passports.
  22. I met someone at the end of a cruise who always ate in the buffet because they thought the MDR was extra.
