  1. I kind of agree with you knowing little about the market for metals. Sounds too good. I have an old silver filling that needs to be removed. I am going to have to pay a HASMAT fee of $75 as part of the procedure's cost. I wonder if I would ask the dentist to give me the silver that he removes as a "tiny metal investment" rather than paying what, I think, is a fee that is going into someone's pocket.
  2. I use the Mid-Port Garage the most and there is at least 3 cashier lanes at the exit. Is there a line-up of cars waiting to pay and then exit? Well, of course. Why would anyone expect anything different? Is it a traffic jam? Not anything like I have experienced on the i-495 beltway around Washington! Traffic in Port Everglades moves efficiently and smoothly. There are many Officers directing traffic that help that to happen.
  3. I parked at Garage G and the ship sailed from Terminal F. I was able to drop the bags off at F and then, with turn signals at work, manage to work my way over the lanes of one way traffic to get to the outermost lane that I was able to enter the garage. It was a chaotic mess and I am thankful that my car did not have a fender bender in the process. I will never drive to the Port of Miami for a sailing again! And, based on what I have learned on CC, I will never use an off-site parking facility. If I book a cruise that sails from Miami, I will use a taxi to get from wherever--hotel or airport--I am to get to the Port.
  4. I did not know that. Sounds like grounds for some legal action if one wanted to invest more money into a suit than one would receive in return. If successful. The Hotel Taxes that are charged by communities "bug" me. But, what can I do. I am embarrassed that my community charges such rates of "Occupancy Taxes". State sales tax, local sales tax, occupancy taxes: but, it doesn't seem to deter visitors.
  5. That's what I have done. With the exception of my Singapore to Dayton experience with the San Francisco stopover, it didn't work. Do that as well with an early dinner (light on the wine) and to bed much earlier than I normally do. And, sleep "in" as long as I can. Usually works for me.
  6. A favorite tour for me was one that visited St. Martin and then transferred us to catamaran for a cruise back to the Dutch side of the island with live Caribbean music and unlimited Rum Punch. That was a great tour!
  7. I'd chose calf's liver or chicken liver. I fed mealworms to some of my critters in my classroom zoo and they are disgusting animals. Believe it or not, they I fed a lizard too many mealworms one day and a few days later, they had attacked the lizard and eaten one of its eyes. They were in the eye socket! I have heard them referred to that. Didn't squash my appetite for them, though.
  8. As a Consumer Cellular customer, I had very good cell phone service (even with 3G) when I was in the Southeastern part of the State as well as in Anchorage and its environs. But, during the cruise, I needed to go outside of the ship to make my calls for some reason. Maybe too much steel around from where I was calling?
  9. I think your bet would be a winning one. The Snow Crab season has been canceled by the Alaskan Department of Fisheries.
  10. Why did the interior designers of that ship choose to install those? What were they thinking?
  11. Yes, availability ought to be there. To make certain that there will be spaces from which you can choose, arrive in the 10:45-11:30 A. M. time frame. Spots near the elevators are prime areas and to get those spots, one needs to be an "early bird".
  12. Earning no income as the interest rate on savings rise
  13. I remember doing this and being at the viewing station. I did not realize that the eruption had destroyed this.
  14. The gentleman recalls regarding the showroom what I remember from the similar venue on Royal Viking Sky. I don't remember much conversation during the performances. But, it was a different arrangement of seating. When I sailed on Prinsendam, every time I walked into the Ocean Bar, I remembered how that space had been used on Royal Viking Sun. My dining table on Princendam was in the "annex" to the main dining rooms on RVS as well as on Prinsendam. When I first saw that on a deck plan of RVS, I thought--how horrid! A second class guest experience! Well, on Prinsendam, it wasn't. It was a delightful and more pleasant dining experience than might have been if we had been assigned a table in the MDR. That probably means that the wall mirror next to the Signature Suites bathtub's wall allows one to view one's showering/bathing. That was weird.
  15. Very interesting. So, there is a set charge for MS Whatever to dock at wherever and the Port Taxes and Fees are based on that? Whatever those charges are will be divided among the number of guests on that sailing?
  16. Very casual is appropriate.
  17. MSC in the past has had "issues" when ships sailing in Europe return for a season of sailing from the United States. If USPH and a USCG inspection was involved before guests could embark, that is not MSC's fault. The reported time to board does seem excessive, however. Quite right that such a delay can occur on any line. Sailing on the original Royal Princess from Port Everglades, she had not ported in the United States for some time and the USCG and USPH needed to do their inspections before guests were allowed to board. A smaller ship than Meraviglia; maybe at that time more inspectors available (?).
  18. What I have never understood was why, sometimes, some "port fees and taxes" would be refunded to one's shipboard account during a cruise. If a port is missed? Yes, I understand why that would be. But, if a port is not missed? Then, why? Overcharged at the beginning?
  19. HAL did as well and, I recall, did MSC. Most helpful, particularly if one was unfamiliar with the vessel.
  20. Respectfully, I strongly disagree with your thinking. One does not well learn how to do a job until one does the job. (Examples: Medical Interns, Student Teachers. apprentices in the Trades.)

  22. Flying from Singapore to Dayton, Ohio, I had a 3 day stopover in San Francisco thinking that would help in getting adjusted to the time change. Well, it didn't! When I got home, I had the worst jet lag that I have ever had. It lasted for 10 days. But, many do believe a stopover helps and maybe, if I had stopped over in Hawaii, that might have made a difference. Besides, I wanted another visit to The City by the Bay.
  23. 😀 Thanks Mr. Killjoy. 😀 You are correct, but in a separate sub-Phylum, Class, and Order.
  24. ' I thought there was a cafe in the Gardens, but, I decided not to mention it because I really wasn't certain. I didn't patronize it during my visit. If there is one memorable and historic thing that stood out for me during my visits to Australia and New Zealand is the deep impact WW I and the battle of Gallipoli had on the two countries citizens. A visitor, visiting the Memorials and exhibits, can sense the reverence that the two countries citizens have for the sacrifices that their soldiers made for them.
  25. Lobster Thermidor was what I ordered and it was great! My usual restaurant patronage was the same as yours at that time.
