We don't have the full story, we don't know quite a few things. Like: exactly when people were notified and what type of people (i.e locals or non locals) were notified. Why there was a sudden shortage of cabins, maintenance issues, miscommunication with TAs, whatever. So apparently the letter went out prior to the sailing day but we don't know how many days prior. As some took option 1 and not any of the other offer/s, they found themselves stranded and couldn't board, they complained and got compensated sufficiently more than the 4th offer.

Of course not, I think you are reading too much into it. From what I have read, they had not necessarily sold more cabins than the ship has, but rather more cabins than they had for that particular cruise. I.e something has happened which has put around 13 cabins out of service. This happens all the time with hotels and cruises ships.

Out of the 12 or 13 couples selected, how many were actually from out of town? How many took up one of the offers? From what I have read so far, only one couple didn't take up any of the offers and complained further. They received a full refund, 100% FCC and drinks package on their next cruise, no matter the length.

Cheers, I am going to have to cancel at least one of my trips that I have booked, it may be this next one, it may be one or more next year. Depends on when I have the surgery. As rehab afterwards requires around 10 weeks minimum.

I did write that for some people none of the options would suit. Yes, if they had flown into Brisbane for the cruise, they would be more than disappointed.

Gold Coast traffic is the worse, but then any high tourist area that also has the tourists driving is bad.

Yes, one thing to know is there is no reason to stress about it. There are plenty of options, it is only a flight time which may put some options under pressure
