colonialinnkeeper Posted April 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2018 I've been looking for information on what was done to Veendam during the last dry dock and a general report from those who have sailed on her since mid-April. Any info would be appreciated. Sailing her in a couple of weeks. Thanks.

I am afraid my report won’t be that useful to you but I sailed on her for the first time last week and we were completely satisfied. I am a four-star Mariner and could not find fault with the ship at all.

colonialinnkeeper Posted April 30, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Hi Sheila, We had planned on taking the 19th departure but then had family coming over Memorial Day so had to go on the earlier one. I'm ready to get out of here and the awful non-spring weather that we have had. I'm sad that HAL won't be going to Bermuda after this year. I guess we'll have to fly there when we want a dose of the island. You and Fred have a great week.

Limited onshore shopping commission, excursions revenues and casino operating hours. You can't really blame them for abandoning the market. sail7seas Posted July 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Veendam will never again be near to the ship she once was befor e they mutilated her aft. WHAT were they thinking? Took a lovely ship and ruined her IMO
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted July 22, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Veendam will never again be near to the ship she once was befor e they mutilated her aft. WHAT were they thinking? Took a lovely ship and ruined her IMO I think the vast majority agree that what was done to the aft decks/superstructure of the Veendam and Rotterdam made them far less attractive and desirable ships. Island Princess has suffered the same fate - went from one of the fleet favorites to being the least desirable Princess ship by far.
DrivesLikeMario Posted October 2, 2018 #12 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Does anyone know what will be done on the Veedam on April 6-14, 2019? Will the cabins be updated?

DrivesLikeMario Posted October 3, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 3, 2018 I've called HAL and they checked and checked. Put me on hold a couple of times, so I really do think they were trying but no one had the information other than the suites being renovated, which I knew. Any info would be appreciated. Sailing her in a couple of weeks. Thanks. Veendam's last dry-dock was between 28 March and 08 April 2016 in Freeport, the Bahamas. This was for standard maintenance plus included hull treatment (repaint hull markings), She also received mechanical work on side thruster#1 (fwd) which was overhauled, and on side thruster #2 (fwd) which received a blade seal replacement. Her stern thruster received a blade/shaft seal replacement. Her longitudinal bulkhead was cropped and renewed and a scrubber and auxiliary diesel generator(ADG) was installed Her next dry-dock per schedule will also be in Freeport from 06-13 April 2019 for standard maintenance, the installation of an indoor ice skating rink, a wave runner system, indoor bowling alley, bumper cart rink, outdoor zip-line course, double climbing wall with para sailing from the top, and a super water slide OK, just kidding; standard maintenance only
High Flyer Posted October 4, 2018 #16 Share Posted October 4, 2018 Had me going there for a minute John. I better get that first cup of coffee. I was reading somewhere that Capt. John Scott and CD Erin Duffy just joined the Eurodam. Do you know if they will be aboard for the March 9, 2019 sailing to the SP?
colonialinnkeeper Posted October 4, 2018 Author #17 Share Posted October 4, 2018 Thanks, John for the information. Love that ship and its size and hope it will remain for quite a while. And, like High Flyer, you had me for half a second (and I am on my first cup of coffee!). May HAL never feel the need to compete with other cruise lines in these areas. High Flyer Posted October 4, 2018 #19 Share Posted October 4, 2018 Thanks John, maybe I'll check back after the 1st of the new year. We might even luck out and see you at the top of the gangway.
