Hawka Posted December 28, 2015 #176 Share Posted December 28, 2015 It has honestly never even occurred to me to pass judgment on another human being based on whether they are wearing a card on a lanyard around their neck. I could care less either way- but it is convenient if you are not carrying a purse with you to go lounge by the pool and for not forgetting your card in the slot machines. No one should judge either in my books what doesn't concern them should not be a problem for them unless it affects them which someone else's lanyard won't affect them anyways

Agree, wear one don't wear one it is each individuals choice in what they do and no one elders and no one should judge either way what they do of don't do when it's not their choice to make] Edited December 28, 2015 by Hawka
Susieq0102 Posted January 3, 2016 #179 Share Posted January 3, 2016 And we veteran cruisers just love to turn our noses up to those newbie cruisers. Maybe they should have a special ship for those newbies. I sure hope you are kidding.... KiwiFunCruiser Posted January 3, 2016 #180 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I sure hope you are kidding.... I doubt it, but I certainly don't care if anyone wears one. I also doubt that all wearers of lanyards are newbies.;)
Susieq0102 Posted January 3, 2016 #181 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I doubt it, but I certainly don't care if anyone wears one. I also doubt that all wearers of lanyards are newbies.;) You are right!! If it makes someone feels superior to us, "newbies," then maybe they should have a separate ship. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have cruised in the past. Unfortunately, many people will never have the opportunity to cruise at all. I count myself lucky and don't care what other people think. That statement was rude and inconsiderate to say the least. If I am correct, EVERYONE is/was new to cruising at one time or another. Wonder how much he/she was made fun of by the more experienced cruisers? Not many because the good people out number the rude ones. Thank goodness!! Not all passengers have issues with newbies, and I am grateful for those people. It would be my pleasure to sit down to dinner with them and learn more about cruising. At the same time, I will choose to avoid those who feel the need to sit back and make fun of others!! :)
arvin Posted January 5, 2017 #182 Share Posted January 5, 2017 I just got back from a Christmas Cruise on Quantum, and this time, for some reason we never had problems with erased data on the card! Even though I know I would forget that I had my phone in the same pocket as my seapass card (RCL). However, when I saw other cruisers wearing their lanyards, I faced palmed myself for forgetting to buy some for the whole family. The kids would have no problem wearing them, in fact on Shore excursions, it would also be wise to put some details like your mobile phone number, just in case one gets separated and needed help locating you (my nephew got separated from the group in HK Disney once). The grown ups can choose to put them in their pockets or purses or manpurses, but the lanyard will help with locating it quickly, I'd probably wear it all the time. Just to share a story about cruise cards, I was walking my mom back to her room when we bumped into my Sis in Law she was going to customer service so she offered to inquire about my Mom's account because the cruise was ending the next day, so Mom give her the card and we walked back to her room, then she was rummaging through her bag looking for her card, getting angry because she knew she put it where she usually puts the card the whole cruise... we were there maybe 2 minutes looking for the card, when I realized we just gave her card to my sister in law!! :D I think if we were used to using lanyards we would have remembered a bit earlier than 2 minutes! Lastly, while I was waiting in line for customer service (long line that night) I wondered what the others were there for, then when I was nearly my turn, I realized that the 3 persons ahead of me were all requesting for replacement cards (they lost theirs). Yes I was bored and was near enough to overhear that every time they asked for a replacement card, the customer service crew member would say. "Oh you lost your card? you will have to sleep outside your stateroom tonight then" with a big Smile of course. I still think that it is a good idea for cruise lines to give their everyone a lanyard, with their logos printed on it. Will already automatically be a cool souvenir plus will probably help solve quite a few issues with card handling. TTFN Arvin

mikeriv79 Posted January 5, 2017 #184 Share Posted January 5, 2017 What is amazing about lanyards is that it is such a major topic: who cares? Yes. Why is this a big issue? Do we need safe spaces on ships for people who are offended by being insulted for wearing lanyards? And do we need safe spaces for people who are offended that other people are wearing lanyards? arvin Posted January 6, 2017 #186 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Guilty! :D But in my opinion it is not a big deal! Guys if you don't care for the topic, please do not post in the topic ;) I am a relative newbie in Cruise Critic, but I am a member of many forums, and the reason for forums to exchange of information and ideas. So please be more open minded!
crystalspin Posted January 6, 2017 #187 Share Posted January 6, 2017 I like a sparkly lanyard but wear my phone around my neck on vacation as it is my camera - and I was having to have my sailcard re-programmed every other day. So I got a rhinestone bracelet with a clip! A mini-lanyard, haha. As someone said above, it helps me find card if dropped in a bag or pocket, and it lets me hang it on a hook in the cabin. wassup4565 Posted January 17, 2017 #196 Share Posted January 17, 2017 First thing I do is get my card punched and put it on my lanyard. I'll never lose it that way, and that's the card that does everything for me, from the time I set foot on the ship, until the last time I step off it. I don't care what anybody else thinks about that, they can do what they want to. What I want is not to lose my card.
WupperAV Posted January 22, 2017 #197 Share Posted January 22, 2017 I lost a card on a Cruise. Luckily they let me back on board with no ID. There was a US Resident Officer at the Gangway who escorted me aboard and told me to get to the Pursers desk. I wear a lanyard with my card and coffee cards in a plastic sleeve and loop it through a belt loop and then put it in my pocket. Haven't lost one since. Don't care what people think or say. Think it's funny that Mr TruckherderDave brought up the fact this thread was over a year old and he still had to answer! BWAHAHA! You're not gonna believe this but............................... LIsLo Posted May 10, 2017 #200 Share Posted May 10, 2017 I've been on Ebay looking for a lanyard, as the last time I cruised, my fellow travelers stashed them in their suitcase! Question: for someone that doesn't want to wear it around her neck, they have "retractable" types. . . so...my question is: where would one put this, other than on a key ring?
