ramrax4 Posted September 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Just double checking re:attire for first day. I know this has been answered many times but my computer is very slow and it makes for agonizing searches so I do apologize to anyone that might get annoyed by this post. We board the Sea on the 29th and would like to eat in the MDR vs buffet. I plan to wear a new pair of jeans with a nice blouse and DH will wear a pair of black pants with short sleeve button up shirt. Princess site states no jeans in the MDR for dinner but doesn't specify lunch. So I'm assuming it's ok especially the first day as long as they are new and not torn or frayed. I hope this  doesn't lead to a long worn out debate re: Princess dress code which I plan to follow and have no issue with, just not sure about lunch on embarkation day. Thanks in advance for any help:)
Layla Posted September 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Embarkation day is usually more relaxed than others due to the fact that some passengers don't receive their luggage before dining, especially if they dine early. You should be fine with your jeans in the dining room on the first evening and DH is perfectly fine as well. Shorts, t-shirts and jeans are allowed in the dining room during breakfast and lunch as well, every day.
tmitchell82 Posted September 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2010 While we have not eaten lunch in the MDR the first day, we have eaten lunch a number of times in the MDR while on the cruise and we have always been in shorts and never had a problem. Bathing suits are not appropriate, but no need to wear "smart casual" for lunch.
Jennygirl Posted September 27, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2010 You will be just fine. Enjoy your cruise. :)

ramrax4 Posted September 27, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Thanks for the speedy replies. We are taking Amtrac and the drop off point requires some walking to get to the right port so we wanted to dress casual.
Rare geoherb Posted September 27, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I wear shorts to the dining room for breakfast and lunch. You won't be turned away for wearing jeans.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted September 27, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Actually, Princess allows nice jeans in the dining rooms for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and tea), and while they're few and far between on warm weather cruises, they are more prevalent on cooler itineraries. You will be fine.

AlaskaGolden Posted September 27, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 27, 2010 It has been my experience that one of things which is never allowed in the Dining Room (Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner) is tank tops for men. I've cruised with someone who tried to get into the MDR for lunch on the first day with a tank top, but was turned away and asked to go back to his room to change. No big deal, he just didn't know. I didn't know either since I never wear them.

Druke I Posted September 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 27, 2010 It's certainly not the 50s, when gents wore sports coats & ties, and ladies wore hats and dresses when flying or taking the train. Much more relaxed/casual (and realistic) today.

katisdale Posted September 27, 2010 #18 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Yes this is fine attire for lunch on any day in the MDR not just on embarkation. Just be sure to be onboard before the dining room closes. I that it is only open from noon to about 1:30.
1 HappyCruiser Posted September 27, 2010 #19 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Jeans are fine to wear in any Princess dining rooms except on formal evenings whether they're new or old. Princess doesn't address the condition but only that they don't have no holes or rips. At breakfast and lunch anything goes for dress in the dining rooms.
