Is Everything On Carnival Covered In Naugahyde?

are difficult to catch, hard to kill, and tuffff, when ya cook 'em

Carnival had to stop using Naugahyde. Their huge ships put such a demand on the dwindling herds that the Nauga is now on the Endangered List. No Naugas or parts thereof may imported or exported at this time.;)

It was on our first, and only, Carnival cruise some years back -- we sailed on the Paradise out of Los Angeles on a Baja cruise, and hated, hated, hated the fact that every chair, couch, settee and stool was vinyl-covered. Even in the library where my better half wanted a comfortable chair to sit and read. Our impression was that Carnival wanted to be able to hose down their ship interiors after each voyage. So we've never returned.

To be fair, was this an anomaly on the Paradise -- or is this a "feature" of even the newest Carnival ships?

To me, the decor is irrelevant. I'm just a guest. Its not like I'm moving in.

Exactly. Did the OP really say that they never took another cruise with Carnival because of their choice of fabric? I have sailed RCCL and Disney and could not tell you anything about their upholstery either.

Well, as the OP, I think I have an answer -- and love the Naugahyde ad you found, asb! I posted in all seriousness; we usually cruise with RCI, Holland and Princess, and while we were generally happy with Carnival food, cabin amenities and ship activities, this Carnival "characteristic" really annoyed us when we tried to get comfortable in the library to read, or in the lounges to play a game. (Maybe it's from our working in hospitals where sanitation generally trumps comfort -- but at least our main lobby and visitor lounges have fabric couches and easy chairs.) We'd like to try Carnival again for a specific itinerary, and were simply wondering if the newer ships have upgraded their interiors.

Now on to saving a few Naugas ...

I'm a photographer so I notice details and decor and at least the Elation horrified me a little bit. I sat near the Casino bar wondering what kind of drugs the designer was on because there was no way that person was completely sober. I even joked about this with the bartender who had some fun theories about it. Though I did like the MDR, as gaudy as it was it was "nice gaudy". But the Casino, lounges, or that Cole Porter lounge? *puke* My friends got married in there and they lowered the lights and used those awful golden spotlights that shone *right* on them. No one, no matter how gorgeous, looks good in that kind of lighting! I was so happy when they did their pictures up on the deck so at least the decor isn't in their wedding portraits.

Seriously? Decor annoys you???

I am sorry but I don't get it. Okay Carnival schemes can be out there, or even gaudy, but to the point where you are annoyed by it so much that you cannot read? Really?

I must be so hammered I don't notice, but I'd love to try to understand that perspective. To me it is part of the experience, like the boldly painted houses in the Caribbean. If I want subdued colors, I will watch Mr. Ed reruns. ;)

Yeah and skinning them naugha's for their hyde is pretty labor intensive too:D But as another poster pointed out they are easier to clean and keep up.

It is well worth the cost due to the naugha’s ability to repel self-righteous and self-absorbed cruisers.

On the Dream, even the Lido buffet chairs are cloth.

I just looked at pictures of Elation on the website and I don't see anything alarming. Seats in the showroom are cloth, and it reminded me that they are on the Conquest and Dream, too.

Looks like cloth on the seats in the internet cafe. I know that some places have naughahyde (thank you naughas, for your sacrifice) but those were mostly in the bar areas (spilled drinks).

I should think that since you are obviously a discerning individual who took "your one and only Carnival Cruise some years back", you should buy your very own boat and equip it with all of the Leather you want. Or..... just purchase some dark sunglasses.

Actually all of the ships are rather..bright. Perhaps Cunard would be more to your standards.

Naugahyde. Yes I have seen it on pretty much every ship I have been on, not just Carnival. Honestly it doesnt bother me. As someone else has suggested, it is easily cleaned, as opposed to "apoulstery" ( ok I know I spell it wrong ), but my spelling goes back to a long ago post where someone insulted my intelligence!

Back to Naugahyde, it doesnt bother me, and even the color of it on Carnival doesnt bother me. JMHO.:)

That's it! I"m calling PETA and reporting Carnival for brutalizing all those wonderful Naugas! There should be a law against it! As a caring citizen and animal lover, I did try to call the local shelters to adopt a Nauga (or two) but they keep calling them La-Z-boy's and other derogatory terms. I know I"m going to have nightmares about the Naugas. I'm going to need counseling, and I think since I have a cruise paid for in May, that CCL needs to reimburse me for all of it, and give me 1500 OBC and unlimited DOD's to compensate me for my emotional trauma. :::wiping tear from my eye::::
