Slot Pull: Questions on how to organize

Ann's information is GREAT and very helpful. I don't usually use spread sheets but was able to figure out how to use it.

I ask for everyone to contribute $15 and ask people to bring exact change. One trick is to figure out where to meet prior to the slot pull to collect the $. I was on the Island and at the M & G that I organized I could confirm where we would meet. I have found that the advantage in notifying the Casino Manager is that they will hold the slot machine so that nobody else can use it.

Hi Ann,

I have been 'nominated' to organise my first ever slot pull. If it is not too much trouble, can you please email me your spreadsheet and instructions? Thanks in advance. gillianparsons@btopenworld.com

Thank you Tom for the vote of confidence. One point in your commentary; I do not collect the money in advance. I just let everyone feed in their own money when they come to play. But that is my preference.

And not that one way is right or wrong but I usually do not notify the Casino Manager in advance of us coming in for the Slot Pull. It is my suspicious mind that feels that they could set the machine not to pay off as much. I have nothing to confirm or deny that but it could happen. If the Casino is busy that day, I send a friend in early to sit at the machine until time to play. Or if there are lots of machines that we could use, I let someone else in the group pick the machine.

Looking forward to meeting you on the ship in December. Should be a great time.

Hi Ann, I wanted to thank you for your "how to run a slot pull". I used it on my Dec.2014 Regal Princess cruise and it was lots of fun. Since we had it early on the cruise, after our meet and greet, it was a good way to get to know fellow cruisers. Unfortunately we did not win big but was able to play past our initial $5 investment. I really appreciate your willingness to keep passing on the "know how" to us.

Having organized these before I would check with the casino manager. Let him or her know you are bringing a group of however many people down and usually they will help you decide what machine depending on how many people you have, etc. They will also tell you what time is best to come down and usually do it with you and divide out how much is left over and get the change from the cage to hand out. Gareth was the casino manger on the Jewel (then I think went to the Gem) and he was awesome to deal with. He gave everyone a free drink while they waited for him to get the money (all $11 per person) and he cheered us on. Bring a sign up slip to your meet and greet and announce when the slot pull will be and where to meet up. Tell everyone to have exact change whether it is $15, 20 or whatever denomination machine you are playing. Also, see if there are any Europeans on your list that can claim a big win (hopefully) if it happens as Americans have to get a 1099 over $1200 (in one pull - not total sum) (or $1250 - can't remember exactly). If no one can claim it then you have to do something like you will claim it for 20% off the top to pay your taxes and then split the remaining. Sorry to ramble on.

Not rambling....good advice! Thanks! ;)

The extra money above the even dollars will be awarded to the player who gets the group the highest amount on their slot pulls. Each person’s winnings will be recorded at the time of their pulls so we know who will get the side pot of the money after the even dollar pay-out.

Let me explain this - Yes, I have tracked the amount won for the group by individuals because we have never paid out cents on the Slot Pull. Only even money. So there is bound to be left over money and that goes to the one person who won the most over-all.

Say you have 30 people in the Slot Pull and at the end there is $853 in the machine. $853 divided by 30 people is $28.3333 each. But you are only going to give them back $28.00 each as you do not want to pay all the change to each one. So if you give $28 to 30 people, that is $840. But you had a total on the machine of $853 so you have an extra $13 and that, in additon to their $28, goes to the person who won the group the most.

You should also have a very small calulator so you can figure the even amount for each person and tell the cashier that you want 30 piles of $28 each and then the extra $$$. They are more than happy to give you the correct amount for each person. This eliminates all the change.

I will send you the spreadsheet to your email also.

Ann, I would love to have that spread sheet too and all the "rules"! Thank you so much for your help! My email: suzyed@aol.com

I have organized two slot pulls. We each paid in $20. At the end of the first round our group decided to continue on to one more round. We told them at the start that the majority ruled. We walked away with our $20 + $3. Didn't make much, but spent 2 hours of great fun!

The first time we told the manager and we had nothing left when we used the machine he picked out. So now we choose our own.

I always let the group choose their own machine. I show them which ones are available and they do the picking of the machine to use. Only one time did I have to tell the Manager when we were coming in as they had only 2 machines like the ones we play. I try to avoid telling them at all. Not saying they can "fix" the machine but no point in taking a chance on it.
