Slept through the security briefing

I don't necessarily have strong feelings either way about others attending the muster drill. For me, it really marks the beginning of cruise. I have a picture of the muster drill from every cruise I have been on. I am grateful that we don't have to drag our life jackets with us anymore. :)

I like this! :D

It's not a big deal to attend, especially if you just have to go to one of the lounges. ;)

We've gone to it on both of our cruises and will on the next two cruises we have planned. However, I have panic attacks in large groups of people and last time we got there right after they called it. I was in the row right against the wall with a ton of people in front of me. I started freaking out a bit and hyperventilating. Next time will wait till the majority of people go in so I can be in the front. Really started my cruise off badly. I just couldn't believe how many people they packed into such a small place. My poor DH. He knew what was going to happen when they kept putting people in front of us.:(

I had the same problem, first cruise. The latecomers were all casually walking up with a fresh drink in hand and we had been smushed up for 20 minutes waiting. On our second cruise I waited so I would not be against the wall with so many people pressing in..

We got checked in at our muster station on RCI. Then they went looking for everyone that didn't show up and made us wait until everyone appeared. When those last people finally showed, the other passengers let them know that they did not appreciate waiting.

We not only attend the muster drill, but we pay attention. I could put on the vest with no problem and I make sure on day one that I know where my lifeboat/muster station is.

They used to take us to our lifeboat, but they don't do that anymore. I could tell you anytime on the cruise, though, what the letter/number of my muster station is.

On the Magic last May it was B-3:D

Earplugs? ;)

There are no earplugs potent enough to block out that sound. I suppose if you are already hard of hearing and then use the earplugs, that might work, but you can't convince me that anyone can "sleep" through that sound.:)

I don't know if they still do it, but Disney used to have a check-off sheet. As you reported to your muster station, your name would be marked off. And most CCL ships I have been on check the cabin, then put a little thingy in the door lock to show it was checked - though they did not do it on our last Miracle cruise.

Based on my experience, I think people paid more attention when mustering next to the life boats wearing the lifejackets. With the musters held in the theaters, dining rooms, and lounges, I'd bet dollars to donuts that 80% of the cruisers attending wouldn't have a clue as to what to do if a real emergency happened.

Why does the CG even bother making the lines do Muster any longer? It's turned into such a joke. 1st Muster they took roll call and made sure everyone could put their vests on. Since that time we've generally sat around the Promenade or in the theatre while not loud enough instructions were given about the vests which were left in the room, to guests who were talking amongst themselves while guarding their buckets of beer.

I can handle muster, but the way it's currently done is useless. I may start hiding on my next cruise too.

Speak up. I certainly would have let you through to the front. I daresay while every group has their boneheads and bullies, that most everyone would understand and let you to the front. You could ask the kid supervising your area, that is if he speaks English. ;)

After 25 cruises it is kind of a waste of time for us but good to know exactly where to go in case of emergency. Think it has lost something when we do not put on life jackets.

Years ago DW developed migraine afternoon of embarkation and told room steward she was sleeping with migraine and I would go so she missed it.

Other than that we go.

I remember someone on this site saying that they used to hid in the bathroom during the drill so they didn't have to go.

After all the trips, they are all the same.

They only have them because of the over-regulated government requirements.

We just like to be the last ones to show up....

We go, never missed one while it’s a hassle it always good to know what one needs to do in an emergency.

We travel with a family who had a child that used to Faint in large crowds. Fisrt time we were in the back, she went down.. second time we were in the front she went down.

The third time , we were in the front ( The station attendant who was also the singer in the casino. Promenade- Robin/from Youngbloods) remembered her and quickly got her to stand off to the side near an eleveator..

Now that they are in longes and such we go find out where we need to be and boogie out of there as soon as we can.

We go on every cruise. It's good to know, just in case. We usually make our way down when they call it because we don't want to be like the people you mention. Makes me want to ask them, "Why do you think it's ok to hold everyone else up?" I understand if you have fallen asleep, but people who show up with a fresh drink in their hand really irritate me.

Wow, do I feel your pain on this one (and so does my DH). I have panic attacks in these situations, too. Last cruise, I almost passed out. I'm glad they put the info on the S&S cards- usually am so freaked by the sweaty, too-close-to-me mob that I can't concentrate on what is being said, anyway.

Next week, we will take our sweet time getting there so we can be somewhere near the front and I don't lose it. Maybe a DOD before the drill will help my nerves, too! ;)

On our first cruise we didn't hear the anouncement at all although we ere waiting for it. No one came for us either! Luckily nothing happened!

While I believe you may not have heard the multitude of announcements, I doubt you missed the ear piercing whistle blasts that come through every available speaker on the ship.
